The Show

Since Aladdin is a pantomime it will have lots of audience participation! This means that the audience will be asked to take part in clapping, singing and even shouting a word or phrase, this means that it will get quite loud at some points if you want to join in clapping, singing or, sometimes, shouting a word or a phrase with the rest of the audience, you can. If the performance gets too much for you or you want to take a break, you can go to our ‘quiet sensory area’ in the Quiet Room situated in the Piazza level of the Millennium Forum.

Act One

After you’ve taken your seat, the lights will go down so it’s darker in the auditorium. This will only be slightly darker as there are no black outs in this show. Then you’ll hear a health and safety announcement. On a few occasions in the show the audience will be asked to shout for Wishy Washy, you do not have to take part in this but be aware that the audience will be very loud during these times, if you do not like these kind of things then you might want to cover your ears or put in ear plugs.

Prologue

The first people you will see on stage will be Abanazar and Spirit of the Ring – there will be a lot of booing and shouting when Abanazar appears as he is the “baddie” of our show.

The Market Place in Old Muff Town (Scene 1)

Here we are introduced to Wishy Washy, his brother Aladdin and his mother Widow Twankey. They chat to audience and introduce themselves to everyone. PC Donut comes along, he is from the Old Muff Town Police Force and orders them to keep quiet so he can introduce The Emperor and his daughter Princess Jasmine.

Aladdin sees Princess Jasmine and falls in love with her. The Emperor sees Aladdin looking at Princess Jasmine and tries to get him arrested for looking at Princess Jasmine. Aladdin tells the Emperor that someday he will marry Princess Jasmine but the Emperor laughs at him.

The 12 Days of Christmas (Scene 4)

In this scene Wishy Washy, Widow Twankey, PC Donut and the Emperor will sing the 12 Days of Christmas song, this is a very funny part of the show and there will be lots of mistakes made on stage – this is all part of the fun.

Abanazar gets the Spirit of the Ring to take him to the Cave of Jewels at the top of Hell Mountain to meet Aladdin to start looking for the magic lamp.

Back Street in Old Muff Town (Scene 3)

With a little help from the audience, Aladdin remembers that he still has the magic ring and when he rubs the ring the Spirit of the Ring appears. Abanazar has taken Princess Jasmine to Egypt. Abanazar’s Palace (Scene 6)

Abanazar is having a party for Princess Jasmine. Widow Twankey will be in disguise as the entertainment she will be dressed as a belly dancer called Cynthia Hairybelly, this will be a funny scene as Widow Twankey is not the best dancer in the show. Aladdin comes in and rescues Princess Jasmine and takes back the magic lamp.

Songsheet & Walkdown Finale

All ends happily in the finale with dancing and clapping. Please feel free to sing along, clap, cheer and boo the cast as they take their bows! There will also be some special snow falling onstage. This is not real snow but it looks like it and creates a great effect to finish the show!

We hope you had a great time at this performance.

Happy Christmas from the Millennium Forum and Stage Beyond!
