5 TIPS for a perfect CURL CONSULTATION

An in-depth consultation is the most important part of any curly client’s appointment. Keeping these 5 tips in mind will help to ensure that you give your curly and wavy guests a thorough consultation from which to base the rest of their services. Going in-depth will also help you to know which care and styling products will be the best ﬁt for at-home maintenance.

Most curly and wavy clients will have more than one curl type. The key is to identify which type is the most prevalent and use that to guide the rest of your recommendations.

Forget what you think you know about treating individual curl types. There is “no one-size ﬁts all” approach to curl. Ask open-ended questions to ﬁnd the right solutions.

Curls behave differently when wet compared to when they’re dry. For a more accurate assessment of curls and waves, examine your client’s hair in both wet and dry conditions.

How well your client’s hair does or does not hold water will say a lot in what product you recommend for care. A quick porosity test is a cornerstone for any curly consultation.

A client’s lifestyle is a crucial factor in determining the best cut, color, and aftercare for them. Be sure to ask about their time commitment to hair care, their budget for maintenance, and their typical workout schedule (if applicable).
