Made in USA: Why Buy American Ross Perot was right when he said... “Hear that sucking sound? That’s the sound of American jobs being shipped to Mexico and overseas.” It was the only time in my life I stood up during a political debate and shouted in applause. Whether he would have been a good president is another subject, but he was right about one thing: Free trade isn’t everything it was cracked up to be. continued on page 3 >>>

MADE IN AMERICA Cont’d. from Page 3

Some say the loss of manufacturing is just a natural progression, an advance to higher skilled jobs. Tell that to IT personnel whose jobs have been outsourced to India and Eastern Europe. Moreover, in a country where our education (math) level falls somewhere between Slovenia and Spain (depending on what chart you look at), can everybody become an engineer at Apple or General Dynamics? Where is everybody going to work? Wal-Mart is now the largest employer in the United States, McDonald’s is second. The average salary of a cashier or associate is about $8.50 an hour. That’s roughly $17,680 a year. After living expenses there’s not a lot left over

for buying a new car, a boat, a home, or paying for an education to advance yourself. That lack of trickle-up effects us all, no matter what your career standing because there is less money being spread around, less consumers with expendable income, and more people unemployed. Without American citizens making products, and companies and workers recycling the money back into our economy, the US won’t be able to pay its massive debts to other countries much less meet the needs of its citizens. The loss of manufacturing also hurts the available pool of skilled trade workers. Talk to any fabrication shop, and they will tell you its difficult to find qualified people to fill a gap or bolster their workforce when needed. If there are no welding jobs, nobody is going to teach or pick that trade up. It’s a cascading effect of disappearing trade labor. Buying American made products

pumps money into our economy, supports higher paying jobs, promotes the expansion of business and opportunities for marketing, advertising, accounting, law firms, insurance companies and the supply chain clusters of suppliers, transportation-delivery, construction, and maintenance. For every $1 that a US manufacturer spends, another $1.40 of economic activity is created. It ensures an available workforce of tradesmen who do things like weld, trouble shoot electrical systems, metal fabrication, and a whole host of jobs that are vital for a healthy workforce.

Make a difference. Buy Made in USA when you can. For more information about why to buy American: www.americanmadematters. com/.

You can make a difference this Christmas

Every Christmas Michele Preisinger and her family have a gift grab bag. The rule is that each gift should cost about $25, but this year there is one more rule: every gift must be made in America. “So many people are out of work and we’ve been fortunate enough to keep our jobs, our house, keep food on the table. And we thought if this could help, than we should do it,” said Preisinger. ”We’re going to buy

the gifts anyhow, so why not look for made in America.” Preisinger, 53, said her husband, Jim, came up with the idea, and after a quick email to the rest of the family it was agreed upon. “Hopefully, our 10 gifts will help make a difference in our economy,” Preisinger told ABC News. Preisinger says she plans to encourage her friends to have a Made in America Christmas too.

Remember, it doesn’t take a lot to have an impact. The average American will spend $700 on holiday gifts and goodies this year, the National Retail Federation estimates.

If each American spent just $64 of that $700 on American made goods it would create

200,000 new jobs HEALTH

PATRIOTIC SPENDING Your patriotic spending does a lot more than you think. When you buy American-made products, you are making this country better than ever in so many ways. We are in control of our country’s future each time we make a purchase. So, be mindful of your purchase decisions and choose wisely.

1.  The Job Creation Equation

American people spending American dollars on American products equals American jobs. These jobs are the foundation of a thriving economy. If every American spent an extra $3.33 on U.S.made products, it would create almost 10,000 new jobs. And, if every builder used just 5 percent more U.S.-made products, it would create 220,000 jobs.

2.  Recycling Dollars

When you buy U.S.-made products, the proceeds remain in the U.S. economy. The money you spend then pays the workers that directly or indirectly created the product you purchased. When workers spend their money on U.S.-made products, the dollars continue to be recycled. Every American worker also pay taxes on wages earned in America.

3.  Keeping America Beautiful

American manufacturers abide by strict regulations to protect the environment. These regulations do not exist in most of the top countries manufacturing and importing their goods into the U.S. causing massive pollution and environmental abuse.

4. Conservation

Importing countries shipping their materials overseas to the U.S. is an added toll on petroleum usage and increases unnecessary emissions in our atmosphere.

5.  Human Rights

Importing countries have little or non-existent regulations or standards for working conditions. By keeping our dollars in the U.S., we are not supporting these horrible working conditions (long hours, exploitation of children, extremely low wages, etc.).

6. Democracy

By choosing to buy U.S.-made products you are supporting democracy.

7.  U.S. Manufacturing = More Jobs

Each manufacturing job creates an additional 5 to 8 jobs.

American fascism A recent article by John Pilger in the British Guardian speaks of a silent military coup that has effectively gained control of American policymaking. It features the following alarmist passage: In 2008, while his liberal devotees dried their eyes, Obama accepted the entire Pentagon of his predecessor, George Bush: its wars and war crimes. As the constitution is replaced by an emerging police state, those who destroyed Iraq with shock and awe, piled up the rubble in Afghanistan and reduced Libya to a Hobbesian nightmare, are ascendant across the US administration ... The historian Norman PolWilliam lack calls this “liberal fascism”: “For goosesteppers substitute the seemingly more innocuous militarisation of the total culture. And for the bombastic leader, we have the reformer manqué, blithely at work, planning and executing assassination, smiling all the while.” Every Tuesday the “humanitarian” Obama personally oversees a worldwide terror network of drones that “bugsplat”

people, their rescuers and mourners. In the west’s comfort zones, the first black leader of the land of slavery still feels good, as if his very existence represents a social advance, regardless of his trail of blood. This obeisance to a symbol has all but destroyed the US anti-war movement -- Obama’s singular achievement. Strong words. Is America the land of “liberal fascism”? Certainly, since the attacks of 9/11 the U.S. has become more authoritarian, more militarized, and less free (witness the Patriot Act, NSA spying, and the assassination of American citizens overseas by drones). The U.S. Supreme Court has Astore empowered corporations and the government at the expense of individual citizens. Powerful banks and corporations reap the benefits of American productivity and of special tax breaks and incentives available only to them, even as average American citizens struggle desperately to keep their heads above water. But to describe this as “fascism” is misleading. It’s also debilitating and

ENTERTAINMENT

demoralizing. It’s misleading because fascism has a specific historical meaning. The best definition I’ve seen is from the historian Robert Paxton’s The Anatomy of Fascism

For Paxton, fascism is: “A form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation or victimhood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion.” In formulating this definition, Paxton had Hitler’s Germany and Mussolini’s Italy in mind, but his definition is an John excellent starting point in thinking about fascism. What about it? Is the U.S. fascistic?

By William Astore Writer, Professor, Retired Lt. Colonel, Air Force

Plainly, no. We don’t have a messiahlike dictator. Our justice system still works, however imperfectly. Our votes still count, even if our political speech often gets drowned out by moneyed interests. It’s true that, in the name of “support our troops,” we grant the Pentagon brass and defense contractors too much leeway, and allow our Department of Defense to seek “global power” without reflecting that such ambitions are the stuff of totalitarian states. But let’s also recall that our troops (as well as our representatives) still swear an oath to the Constitution, not to a dictator or party. It’s also true that, as a society, we are too violent, too attracted to violence (think of our TV/Cable shows, our video games, and our sports), and too willing to relinquish individual liberties in the name of protecting us from that violence and the fear generated by it. Pilger Yet Americans are also increasingly weary and skeptical of the use of military force, FASCISM, cont’d. on Page 19

Ralph Nader decries how big business has taken control of the U.S. government I’ve got a plan. I’m going to get some enlightened billionaires to turn the 2016 race into a three- or four-way race. And it can be done, because they can write the check for themselves. We have to break up the two-party tyranny. It’s destroying the country, because it’s nothing more than a mission for a few giant corporations to run the country into the ground and to abandon it. Imagine—there’s no gratitude by these corporations. They’ll abandon the jobs and the industry, ship them to fascist and communist regimes overseas who know how to put workers in their place. And there’s no standards for corporate Ralph patriotism. You know how these corporations, they always want to be known as people, so they can get all the rights we have? Well, let’s treat them like people and give them standards of patriotism. They were born in this country. They made money in this country. They were bailed out by marines or taxpayers. And we’re not judging them that way. We’re allowing them to depersonalize power and get away with enormous abuses as our country declines, according to many indicators, not just economic. Describing the United States as an “advanced Third World country,” longtime consumer advocate and former presidential candidate Ralph Nader calls for a new mass movement to challenge the power corporations have in

Washington. “It is not too extreme to call our system of government now ‘American fascism.’ It’s the control of government by big business, which Franklin Delano Roosevelt defined in 1938 as fascism,” Nader says. “We have the lowest minimum wage in the Western world. We have the greatest amount of consumer debt. We have the highest child poverty, the highest adult poverty, huge underemployment, a crumbling public works — but huge multi-billionaires and hugely profitable corporations. I say to the American people: What’s your breaking point? When are you going to stop making excuses for yourself? When are you Nader going to stop exaggerating these powers when you know you have the power in this country if you organize it?” Nader has just published a new book, “Told You So: The Big Book of Weekly Columns.”

I’m always puzzled why some women get so upset about other women getting plastic surgery. I don’t understand why we wouldn’t applaud the efforts of someone doing something to improve their self-esteem. I hear the critics sayings things such as, “I’m 100% all natural” or “nothing fake about me”. So I pose the following questions… if you wear make-up, false/extended eye lashes, contact lenses, dye your hair, receive chemical treatments (of any kind) to your hair, wear a push-up bra, control top panty hose, wear spanx/ girdle, get acrylic nails, wear weaves/ wigs or hair extensions (of any kind)… are you real? What is the threshold for self-improvement and who set the bar? Our focus should be on changing the false standards of beauty and ensuring our girls love themselves for who they are and not what they look like. This idea may sound far-fetched but so did the proposal that the world wasn’t flat.

Let’s be honest, even the world’s most beautiful women have things about themselves they are not happy with. Our physical presence is only an illusion because it can never convey the true beauty of our souls. Sometimes people that have no tolerance for others are actually rejecting some weakness they see within themselves. True inner beauty will surpass all boundaries of age, race or ethnic affiliation. So I encourage all females to celebrate and appreciate the beauty of all women and recognize that there’s nothing wrong with enhancing one’s natural assets. Sherry D. 4 ways anyone can be more like a Marine They’re called “The Few. The Proud;” does that mean the many Americans who admire the U.S. Marines never hope to become more like them? Eric Wentz, a highly decorated military intelligence specialist who served his country for 26 years, says yes. “For many, the Marines embody all that the men and women of the United States military stand for, which includes a principled lifestyle that ultimately serves to defend the democratic values espoused in our constitution, and our love for freedom,” says Wentz, a former intelligence officer and author of a new Readers Choice Award-winning novel based on his experiences, “Killing Sharks: De Profundis,” (www.ericwentz.com). “There really are bad actors throughout the world who want nothing more than to see the destruction of our civilization – all that was built by our founding fathers and continued throughout the generations – to be replaced by a foreign ideology. The Marines are often the first to prevent that from happening.” Wentz explores four defining characteristics of Marines that any American can emulate:

An adherence to honor and integrity – Semper Fidelis:

The translation of the famous Latin phrase is “always faithful” – faithful to the present mission, to fellow Marines and to the United States, no matter what. Recruits who enter into basic training undergo a transformation that lasts a lifetime. Once a Marine, always a Marine, expected to forever live by the ethics and values of the Corps: an aversion to lying, cheating and stealing; an uncompromising code of personal integrity; a love for accountability, selfreliance and discipline. Honor, courage and commitment are the bedrock of a Marine’s values. Similar codes can be found throughout history, including the chivalry of Medieval knighthood and codes found among other fabled warriors, including the Spartans and Trojans.

age of overweight citizens, it’s easier to see why Marines are viewed with high esteem. Physical fitness is the outward reflection of the inner character demanded of these warriors.

Willingness to sacrifice:

Military members fighting in wars are routinely asked to make the ultimate sacrifice by putting one’s life on the line to complete a mission. If a life isn’t lost, a Marine’s limbs or mental and emotional well-being may be. Sacrifice also means doing several tours in a war zone, half a world away from family, to exist in a hostile environment. Many individuals forgo a comfortable

and profitable life at home in order to fight for the greater good of all Americans.

Fear of commitment is not an option:

A Marine recruit simply cannot pussyfoot his or her commitments; you cannot be a runaway bride or an uncertain, handwringing groom. Marines must be gung ho in the face of adversity. They

U.S. citizens appreciate the character of those protecting them, says former intelligence officer are individuals of action and consequence, and there can be no debate with a superior when asked to risk one’s life for the good of the mission. Luckily, civilians rarely face such demands. However, as Wentz points out, if they demonstrate such commitment to integrity in finances, health, business, civic and personal obligations, they’ll also do their part in contributing to the strength and defense of the nation.

Holiday drinking: keep it safe By Drew W. Edwards, ED,D., MS Every holiday season, people have to deal with the increased pressures and stress that the holidays place upon most of us. Whether we’re traveling to be with family or doing our last-minute gift buying, most people feel under pressure during the holidays. As you might suspect, the holiday season then becomes one of the most dangerous times of the year for alcohol-related accidents and death. There are several reasons for this: More people drink during the holidays due to numerous parties and other festivities. Many holiday drinkers don’t drink often, so they have a lower alcohol tolerance. These people often underestimate their level of impairment and sometimes even drive when they shouldn’t. When arrested for drunk driving, these people often show a relatively low blood alcohol content yet they are very intoxicated. Problem drinkers and alcoholics love the holidays because there are more social occasions to drink. They say they feel more “normal” because the occasional drinkers are also more likely to abuse alcohol during this time of year. Consequently, people with alcoholism drink and drive more frequently. Unlike occasional drinkers, they have a high tolerance for alcohol and can consume large amounts before showing effects. The holidays are busy and stressful. People are hurrying more than normal and winter road conditions make driving more dangerous. Add alcohol to this scenario and you have a recipe for disaster.

Avoiding alcohol-related problems

You can make your holidays happier and safer by

following these five simple tips for consuming alcohol in moderation throughout the season:

Just say no

Resist the pressure to drink or serve alcohol at every social event. Just because it’s there does not require that you drink it. There is no law stating that alcohol is a necessary ingredient for holiday cheer. Don’t feel like you have to drink just because your host offers — it’s not rude to choose a non-alcoholic beverage instead.

Offer nonalcoholic beverages

If you want to serve alcohol to your guests, offer nonalcoholic beverages as well. Make your guest feel as comfortable choosing a nonalcoholic beverage as he would choosing alcohol. You can do this by putting nonalcoholic drinks in a prominent, easily accessible place and by asking guests what they would like to drink, instead of pointing them to the bar or handing them an alcoholic drink when they arrive.

Designate a driver before the party begins

If you or your friends are going to a party and plan to use alcohol, decide in advance who will be the designated driver. Decide that drinking and driving is not an option.

Choose your number ahead of time

If you are going to drink, do what responsible drinkers do. Decide ahead of time how many drinks

EDUCATION

you will have and stick to it. A blood alcohol content chart can help you understand the relationship between the amount of drinks, blood alcohol content and level of impairment.

Remember that alcohol is a complement, not the purpose

Sometimes we lose sight of a holiday celebration or party and see it as a chance or opportunity to drink socially. While it is such an opportunity, the main purpose of a party is to have fun with people you know. Drinking is always an option and optional, and it is as much as a choice as it is a responsibility. Keep this in mind throughout the night. If you find yourself going overboard, find a friend or loved one, and explain you’d like to go home. You can stop yourself before you go too far, you just need to choose to do so. April 2012, www.drugabuse.gov), Spice is now the second most used illegal EDUCATION drug by High School seniors, next to marijuana. How much do you know about it?

Before becom- ing a counselor I spent over a decade working with some of the largest and most prolific nutrition companies in the country. I’ve seen what really goes on in board rooms and factories. One thing I learned is that some manufacturers are unscrupulous. All they care about is money. I’ve seen expiration dates changed on old products, and products made with questionable ingredients or

Warfare

Number 1 Is Spice All-Natural?

No. If you see a package of synthetic Marijuana with all-natural claims on the label, then that manufacturer is lying to you. Spice contains natural ingredients but is not all-natural. Spice is actually created by spraying assorted plant matter with synthetic chemicals. This material typically consists of various herbs, but in truth it can contain absolutely anything that burns. That’s because — as studies show — the organic stuff is inert. They don’t contribute at all to the mind-altering effects. Instead, manufacturers use the herbs as a delivery system by spraying them with synthetic chemicals that mimic the effects THC has on the body. The result is a product that may look and smoke like natural marijuana, but couldn’t be more different.

Number 2 Is Spice Safe?

The Synthetic Drug Abuse Prevention Act of 2012 banned synthetic compounds commonly found in synthetic marijuana, designating them as Schedule I substances, meaning it’s illegal to sell, buy or possess them. But that hasn’t stopped manufacturers from running a shell game whereby different chemicals are substituted in and out of the mixture. The result is a product that isn’t supported by testing and doesn’t conform to any standard. Each manufacturer uses its own “custom blend” of plant matter which is doused with who knows how much chemical. Afterward it’s packaged and sold as “incense.” What a racket. According to NIDA, the active compounds in Spice bind to the same receptors as THC. However, some of the compounds bind more strongly, which could lead to a more powerful and unpredictable effect. So when you smoke spice you are never certain what it’s going to do to you. Unfortunately, Spice is a recent phenomenon so it’s effects aren’t well-documented yet. Preliminary studies suggest negative effects such as increased agitation, vomiting,

unsafe amounts of some ingredients. Believe me it happens. But the companies I’m talking about are in the minority. In the case of Spice, 100% of the manufacturers don’t give a rat’s butt what happens to you, so long as you pay in cash. In a way I can’t blame them. After all, they do tell you right on the package; “Not for human consumption.” What kind of idiot would ignore a warning like that?!

Entry Price: $14,170 Price as Tested: $16,405 car in class to receive a “5-Star Overall Safety Vehicle Score” from NHTSA, followed by being named a 2013 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. All Sonics come with traction control, four-wheel antilock brakes, Stabilitrak, air conditioning and more. Your dealer is waiting to explain and make some nice incentive offers which will lower the final price. Outwardly I like Sonic’s front end design very much, with protruding headlamps encased in granite black metallic paint. A dual port grille augments the design, while inside Sonic’s fit and finish is good and the seats are comfortable. Sonic’s suspension is stiffer than some competitors, giving it a better feel

on the highway and in tighter turns. Up front are MacPherson struts mated to a torsion beam rear suspension, which is the now accepted formula for both comfort and sharper handling. Important numbers include a wheelbase of 99.4 inches, 2,727 lb. curb weight, 14.9 cu. ft. of cargo space, 4.9 inch ground clearance and a 12.2 gallon fuel tank. In summary, front drive Sonic holds its own and even outshines several of the competitors. However, be careful how much you spend on a Sonic as my recommendation quickly guides a consumer to Chevy Cruze, which starts at just $17,270. With a Cruze, you’ll find yourself in a nicer, roomier vehicle thanks to a 105.7 inch wheelbase with lots more standard features.

Mayweather hints Pacquiao may be next opponent By David King That’s because “Money” is a fasttalking, business savvy boxer who knows exactly what he needs to say to keep the media and fans mesmer-

potential super-fight between the two. Even when Pacquiao’s dominant performance against Brandon Rios on Nov. 23 reenergized talks about the highly-anticipated super-fight, Mayweather and his

ized. That’s why he’s the highest paid boxer ever, and will likely retire as the highest paid athlete in sports history when it’s all said and done. So what does that have to do with anything? Well, ever since Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KOs) suffered a devastating knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012, Mayweather (45-0-0, 26 KOs) has refused to entertain talks about a

handlers simply brushed it aside. However, Mayweather made an interesting revelation during a recent interview with Chris Robinson. “My focus is May 3rd. I don’t know who my opponent will be,” Mayweather said. “If it’s Pacquiao, it’s Pacquiao. If it’s Amir Khan, it’s Amir Khan. For 17 years they’ve been putting guys in front of me, and I’ve been beating them. Come May they’ll put a guy in

front of me, I’ll go to training camp, work hard, and the results will be the same.” That’s the first time Mayweather has acknowledged Pacquiao as a potential opponent in quite some time. It also comes at a time when the WBC recently listed Pacquiao as the number one challenger to Floyd’s welterweight title. Manny won’t become the mandatory challenger until after Mayweather’s next fight, and only if he doesn’t reclaim the WBO welterweight title from Timothy Bradley before then. Given the history of failed negotiations between the two camps, there are still a lot of obstacles in the way of the super-fight. However, it is worth nothing that Mayweather’s renewed openness to fighting Pac-

quiao, and the Filipino congressman’s tax troubles might just create the perfect conditions for successful negotiations. Pacquiao is accused of owning over $50 million in back taxes in his native Philippines, and, according to TMZ, the United States’ Internal Revenue Service is now claiming “Pacman” owes over $18 million stateside. Clearly, a superfight against Floyd Mayweather might just be Pacquiao’s only way out of his current financial predicament. That should make Pac and Arum a lot more reasonable during the next round of negotiations, so, as long as he’s willing to undergo Olympic style drug testing and pretty much say “how high?” anytime Money says “jump,” a Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao super-fight remains a possibility.

Giant Asian hornets killing people in China By Andres Jauregui , The Huffington Post What’s the buzz about giant Asian hornets? They’ll kill you painfully and thoroughly -- and they’ve been reported in the U.S. Climate change might be contributing to a global rise in insect numbers. As if that weren’t bad enough, some of the bugs that appear to be benefitting from that population surge are giant Asian hornets that are killing people unfortunate enough to disturb them. According to The Guardian, at least “28 people have died and hundreds have been injured in a wave of attacks by giant hornets in central China.” The hornets, also known as Vespa mandarinia, have reportedly “chased [victims] for hundreds of meters... and stung [them] as many as 200 times.” The venom from the stings can cause anaphylactic shock and kidney failure, the Guardian reported (as if you wouldn’t die from sheer terror). Imagine getting stung 200 times by one of these: Chances are, you won’t be, since

9.5 in.

these are queens, but the run-of-the mill variety of Vespa mandarinia are also pretty terrifying. The average stinger on a giant Asian hornet measures about a quarter-inch. But before we “turn Earth over to the wasps,” as Gawker suggested, let’s stop and consider that normal-sized stinging insects already do plenty of damage. For starters, there’s the killer bee swarm deaths that are periodically reported in the United States. Swarming bees have also killed pets and animals as large as horses. And lets not forget insect pests of the non-bee variety. Crazy ants, an invasive species that’s making inroads in the southern U.S., not only bite -- they also destroy electrical wiring. If humans can live with these pests, then giant Asian hornets shouldn’t present too much of a challenge, right? We might soon find out: The hornets were reported in Illinois last year. In 2013, cicada killer wasps were also spotted in the region.

Gift giving for the adventurer in your life By Howard Hian www.Travels-with-Hian.com It’s that time of the year for my list of “go to” places to shop. Outdoor Research

If you aren’t familiar with the company, its OR insignia may ring a bell (and, no, it’s not an abbreviation for Oregon). It is another of my preferred retailers, whether for clothing or gear. The first little old lady says, “Look at that.” “When I was 10 years old, I was afraid of it.” “When I was 20 years old, I was curious about it.” “When I was 30 years old, I enjoyed it.” “When I was 40 years old, I asked for it.” “When I was 50 years old, I paid for it.” “When I was 60 years old, I prayed for it.” “When I was 70 years old, I forgot about it.” “And now that I’m 80, the damned things are growing wild!!”

Wrong precription

The doctor goes hunting and returns the following day and asks: ”His assistant how was your day?” He told him that he took care of three patients. “The first one had a headache so I gave him Tylenol.” “Bravo, and the second one?” asks the doctor. “The second one had stomach burning and I gave him Malox, sir.” “Bravo, bravo! You’re good at this and what about the third one?” asks the doctor. “Sir, I was sitting here and suddenly the door opened and a woman entered. Like a flame, she undressed herself, taking off everything including her bra, her panties and lied down on the table. She spread her legs and shouted: “HELP ME! For five years I have not seen any man!” “GOSH ALMIGHTY what did YOU do?” – asks the doctor. “I put drops in her eyes.”

Speeding

A blonde lady was driving along the highway when a blonde police officer pulled her over for speeding. Officer: May i see your license? Lady: what does it look like? Officer: its a rectangular thing with a photo of you on it. The lady looks through her bag and

pulls out her compact mirror and hands it to the officer. The officer opens it up and says ‘if you had told me you were a police officer I wouldn’t have pulled you over.’

Take that

There was a blonde who just got sick and tired of all the blonde jokes. One evening, she went home and memorized all the state capitals. Back in the office the next day, some guy started telling a dumb blonde joke. She interrupted him with a shrill announcement, “I’ve had it up to here with these blonde jokes. I want you to know that this blonde went home last night and did something probably none of you could do. I memorized all the state capitals.” One of the guys, of course, said, “I don’t believe you. What is the capital of Nevada?” “N,” she answered.

Attitude adjustment

The newlyweds are in their honeymoon room and the groom decides to let the bride know where she stands right from the start of the marriage. He proceeds to take off his trousers and throw them at her. He says, “Put those on.” The bride replies, “I can’t wear your trousers.” He replies, “And don’t forget that! I will always wear the pants in the family!” The bride takes off her knickers and throws them at him with the same request, “Try those on!” He replies,”I can’t get into your knickers!” “And you never bloody will if you don’t change your attitude.”

desk and informed the clerk that he was checking out. The clerk presented him with his bill for $1600.
“There is a mistake here,” he protested. “I have been here only three days.”
“Yes,” replied the clerk, “But your wife has been here a month.”

The chicken and the egg

The chicken and the egg are laying in bed. The chicken is smoking a cigarette with a satisfied smile on its face while the egg is frowning and looking slightly annoyed.
The egg mutters “Well I guess that answers that riddle.”

FASCISM

Cont’d. from Page 8 as recent events involving Syria have shown. The point is not to despair, not to surrender to the demoralizing idea that American politics is an exercise in liberal fascism. No -- the point is to exercise our rights, because that is the best way to retain them. Authority always wants more authority. But as political actors, we deny by our actions the very idea of fascism. For in fascist societies, people are merely subjects, merely tools, in the service of the state. Don’t be a tool. Be an actor. Speak up. Get involved. Work to make your imperfect republic a little more representative of the better angels of our nature. Because it’ll be your deeds that keep our country from falling prey to fear and violence and the authoritarian mindset they breed.
