Capt. Ryan B. Scholl, Truman’s commanding officer, said the advancement of each Sailor represents the “Give ‘Em Hell” spirit aboard Truman.

“We are a warship that trains and operates every day to excel in our mission,” said Scholl. “I am honored and take great pride in advancing 192 fighters who worked hard to get Harry S. Truman back out to sea and complete a very successful sea trials. We have several events ahead that these Sailors now take a greater responsibility to lead us through.” Aviation Boatswain’s Mate

Patriotic Festival takes place in VB

Chief of Naval Personnel (CNP) Vice Adm. Bill Moran will hold an all-hands call with Sailors from Naval Station Norfolk commands at the C-9 Building, June 5 at 8 a.m. He will provide updates on the series of new personnel initiatives that his office is helping to implement and communicate to the fleet. He'll take questions on these changes and speak about the new programs that will shape the Sailor of 2025, a look at the future of the Navy's personnel system and how the service manages its talented Sailors. Vice Adm. Moran assumed duties as the Navy's 57th chief of naval personnel, Aug. 2, 2013. Serving concurrently as the deputy chief of naval operations (Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education), he is responsible for the planning and programming of all manpower, personnel, training and education resources for the Navy. He manages an annual operating budget of $29 billion and leads more than 26,000 employees engaged in the recruiting, personnel management, training and development of Navy personnel. His responsibilities include overseeing Navy Recruiting Command, Navy Personnel Command, and Naval Education and Training Command.

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine visited Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP), May 27, to see firsthand the work of staff as they provide health care to service members, veterans and their families in Hampton Roads. Kaine’s visit was part of a four-day whirlwind tour of the state and his first at the medical center since he became an elected official.

The visit began with an extensive conversation with Capt. Darin Via, NMCP commanding officer, about numerous aspects of providing care at a tertiary medical center, from graduate medical education and research programs to the number of staff and span of branch health clinics throughout the region. “More than anything, we wanted to showcase the capabilities and capacity of Naval Medical Center Portsmouth,” Via said. “Being one of the largest tertiary care medical
