NORFOLK

Gray clouds and a howling wind set the tone of a somber spring morning. Drops of rain fall like tears on gathered mourners, clothed in black. Before them sits a casket, draped in the cloth of a grateful nation, flanked by stoic Sailors who came to render final honors. An order is given and the Sailors place their shipmate before his gathered loved ones. The sounds of

sorrow mix with the soft patter of rainfall. Deep in grief, the mourners slowly rise as a team of rifles aim toward the heavens. “Ready. Aim. Fire.” The shots echo across the cemetery. “Ready. Aim. Fire.” A Sailor’s sacrifice is paid tribute. “Ready. Aim. Fire.” One final blast punches the air, and then, all goes silent.
