Editorial Spring is here!

After that long winter that even saw snow falling in Piazzetta, spring is here!

This issue of Yacht Club Portofino magazine is a bridge between the winter season which lasted too long and the spring which we are delighted to welcome, notwithstanding Loretta Goggi’s famous song – whose title Maurizio Di Maggio borrowed for his article“Music on Board” - “Che fretta c’era, maledetta primavera?” (Why the rush, cursed Spring?).

Nevertheless, we have not forgotten to include a page for our readers about the experience of the sea in winter; this marvellous and romantic sea in particular.

To go out to sea is to rediscover the pleasure of close contact with nature. It is only right that wehighlight the pressingtopic of the health of the seas: fortunately, the latest One Ocean Forum made us realize the urgency of a theme which does concern all of us. In this sense, the Charta Smeralda (Emerald Charter) is a valuable manifesto that recommends ethical behaviour and common sense to safeguard the marine environment.

This season is packed with events, first of these is the upcoming edition of Versilia Yachting Rendez-Vous to be held in Viareggio from the 10th to the 13th of May. Happy life, happy spring...

Spring is here!

Dopo questo lungo inverno, con la neve caduta anche in Piazzetta, ecco la Primavera!

Un numero questo di Yacht Club Portofino magazine che fa da ponte tra il periodo invernale, durato anche troppo e la primavera che, nonostante la famosa canzone di Loretta Goggi - il cui titolo è stato ripreso anche da Maurizio Di Maggio per il suo articolo sulla “Musica a bordo” - “ che fretta c’era, maledetta primavera?”, siamo felici di salutare.

Senza tuttavia tralasciare di proporre ai nostri lettori una pagina su come é stato vivere il mare d’inverno, in particolare questo meraviglioso e romantico mare.

Uscire in mare, significa anche ritrovare il piacere di un contatto ravvicinato con la natura. Doveroso quindi sottolineare l’urgenza del tema sulla salute dei Mari: l’ultimo One Ocean Forum ci ha fortunatamente costretti a prendere atto dell’urgenza di questo tema che riguarda tutti noi. La Charta Smeralda è in questo caso un manifesto prezioso che suggerisce comportamenti etici e di buon senso per la salvaguardia dell’ambiente marino.

Una stagione ricca di appuntamenti questa, il primo dei quali è la prossima edizione di Versilia Yachting Rendez-Vous dal 10al 13 maggio, a Viareggio.

Our start up that could be the future

Benvenuti nel nostro capitale naturale

It is clear that there is a need for “investment in the sustainable management of key resources and natural capital”, with particular attention being paid to marine resources and the marine tourism industry.

The latter has the highest concentration of businesses belonging to the blue economy: shipbuilding, sporting and recreational activities and service industries for catering and hospitality. Finally, and gratifyingly, in so far as the effect felt at a regional level from the added value produced and activated by the local economy is concerned, Liguria performs outstandingly. Notably, the Portofino Nature Park, which will become a national park. The Senate Standing Committee has passed an amendment calling for the designation of the Parco Nazionale di Portofino. The amendment is linked to the end of year budget and so by the end of 2017 the Portofino National Park, covering both inland and protected marine areas, could consequently become a reality, starting with a government endowment of 1 million euro. The transition may be a significant one as far as financing is concerned, but in the event, the planning of a park affording greater visibility and access (access from Portofino is difficult during the summer months) will be even more so. As the mayor and head of the park authority Sig. Donadoni says: «If we achieve this historic result for our territory it offers real potential to develop the Portofino Nature Park for the benefit of residents and guests. Including the park at a national level means that its visibility is of prime importance, acknowledging merit for the hard work carried out over recent years by the Portofino Park Authority, the Portofino Protected Marine Area and the Liguria County Council. The local authorities have all believed in this goal and worked towards it in synergy together. The initial, delicate and complex phase of transition must be prudently and carefully managed to safeguard the central position of the territory». A new Renaissance for Portofino and Italian excellence.

Eccomi a darvi nuovamente il benvenuto, attraverso il mio consueto editoriale e focus. Sin dalla nascita di Yacht club Portofino Magazine cerchiamo di trasmettervi notizie, in ambito nautico, che possano interessarvi e darvi un punto di riferimento. Il nostro magazine, fin dalla prima uscita riceve il vostro consenso e la vostra approvazione, grazie allo spirito di servizio che cerchiamo di offrire. Per questo terzo numero, vorrei focalizzare la vostra attenzione sul tema attualissimo della difesa dell’ecosistema marino. Sappiamo che ogni anno milioni di tonnellate di rifiuti finiscono in mare, mettendo a rischio ambiente, economia e fauna marina, ma anche la nostra stessa salute per la contaminazione della catena alimentare. Dalla passione comune per il mare di Legambiente e Diversamente marinai è nato il progetto Vele spiegate: estati in barca a vela per la difesa dell’ecosistema marino, sensibilizzando le barche a motore e i turisti e che punta ad acquisire dati qualitativi e quantitativi relativi al nostro mare. Il Fondo Europeo per gli affari marittimi e per la pesca finanzierà progetti fino al 2020 e si potrà, così, incrementare la competitività delle nostre imprese, l’ammodernamento delle barche, la sistemazione dei porti e dei luoghi di sbarco. É evidente la necessità di “investire nella gestione sostenibile delle risorse chiave e del capitale naturale”, con particolare attenzione alle risorse marine e al settore del turismo marino. Ambito dove si concentra la maggior parte delle imprese della Blue economy, la cantieristica, le attività sportive e ricreative e i servizi di ristorazione e alloggio. E da ultimo, per quanto riguarda l’incidenza del valore aggiunto prodotto e attivato nelle economie territoriali, a livello regionale spicca con soddisfazione la nostra Liguria. In particolare il Parco di Portofino, che diventa nazionale. In Commissione Bilancio Senato è passato l’emendamento che prevede l’istituzione del Parco Nazionale di Portofino. L’emendamento è legato alla Finanziaria di fine anno ed entro il 2017 potrebbe pertanto diventare realtà la nascita del Parco nazionale di Portofino comprendente sia l’area a terra sia l’Area marina protetta, con una dotazione economica per l’avvio di 1 milione di euro.Il passaggio potrebbe essere importante per quanto riguarda i finanziamenti, ma ancora più importante sarà, con l’occasione, la progettazione di un parco con maggiore visibilità e accessibilità (l’accesso da Portofino è difficoltoso nei mesi estivi). Per il sindaco Donadoni, presidente dell’Ente parco: «Se si riuscirà a traguardare questo risultato, storico per il nostro territorio, avremo di fronte una prospettiva concreta di sviluppo del Parco di Portofino a beneficio di cittadini e ospiti. Inserire il parco a livello nazionale significa riconoscergli una visibilità di primaria importanza, riconoscendo il valore di un lungo lavoro che è stato svolto negli ultimi anni dall’Ente Parco di Portofino, dall’Area marina protetta di Portofino e dalla Regione Liguria. Un obiettivo in cui abbiamo creduto tutti insieme come amministrazioni locali e per il quale ci siamo impegnati in sinergia. Si aprirà una fase delicata e complessa per la gestione dell’iter transitorio, da seguire con attenzione e prudenza per salvaguardare la centralità del territorio». Un nuovo Rinascimento di Portofino e dell’eccellenza italiana nel mondo.

ere I am, welcoming you once again with my usual editorial and focus. Since the very beginning at Yacht Club Portofino Magazine, we have sought to bring you news with a nautical theme which may interest you and give you a point of reference. Since its first issue thanks to this service, our magazine has received your approval. In this the third issue, I would like to focus your attention on a very topical and very pressing theme, that of safeguarding marine ecosystems. We know that every year millions of tons of refuse end up in the sea, putting the environment, the economy and marine wildlife at risk and placing our own health in danger from contamination of the food chain. Legambiente and Diversamente Marinai share a passion for the sea which has brought them to create the Vele Spiegate project: Summers spent in sailing boats safeguarding the marine ecosystem, raising awareness among skippers of engine powered boats and tourists and most importantly, acquiring qualitative and quantitative data relating to our sea.

The European Maritime and Fisheries Fund will finance projects up to 2020, so we could envisage an increase in competitiveness for local business, modernization of boats and organization of ports and disembarkation points.

Stefano Bonadeo Beyond the sea

tefano Bonadeo’s thoughts reach beyond the sea towards future generations, to the awareness that each of us must have even in our small daily gestures, of the special care necessary for preserving this extraordinary resource; one which is, as he reminds us, the primary source of life. On the sea and by the sea since he was a child, thence to finance and once again returning to the sea as soon as possible but with a different attitude; still adventurous and sporting, but also with the certainty that his choices and his ethical commitment in favour of safeguarding the sea can be shared and adopted as an example by other young people. We start here with Stefano and the link with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda is a natural one since his father Riccardo is, for the second consecutive mandate, Commodore of this prestigious institution; the Club which the world recognizes as synonymous with excellence.

Stefano, Charta Smeralda, the agreement for protecting the oceans sees the Yacht club Costa Smeralda at its head in defence of the sea. Apart from the purely formal and instutional aspects, what does the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda do in a concrete fashion to make its members aware of this extremely important theme?

What is your personal point of view?

Let’s start by saying that Charta Smeralda was created on the 50th anniversary of the YCCS thanks to the scientific committee of One Ocean Forum with the participation of both SDA Bocconi and Unesco as well as other representatives from international institutions who were given the task of

conducting a sustainability audit on the structures and the services of the Club (organization of regattas in a sustainable way). This was intended to be a starting point, an internal examination of conscience before we became the paladins of these values outside our walls. The document covers 19 points to be signed by all members who will adhere to this ethical code of conduct.

Its aim is to become a benchmark for all the yacht clubs of the world, but also for tourist ports, sailing schools…My father and I were just talking about it yesterday: now must be the time for us to meet around a table and propose ideas. For example: we are thinking about creating incentives and empowering those who show themselves to be diligent and disciplined about this theme, and also to warn those who are negligent. The directives of the Charta must be followed. Let me give you a practical example: all the yacht clubs organize regattas and the boats which take part take plastic bottles on board, there will be a request for recycling and a total ban on throwing plastic or cigarettes in the sea. The least virtuous who don’t respect this directive may suffer penalty points in competition, however these actions are still under consideration…

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda has been a global ambassador of the Italian lifestyle for fifty years. How does this Italian style show itself today? Generally speaking, are the Italian owners of large yachts aware of their ambassadorial role and that their behaviour at sea and on land is under scrutiny? And even more so if their

boats fly the flag of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda?

Style is sobriety and measure. This awareness is present within the social group. There is a niche which interprets that elegance which I believe to be amply represented by the members of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. In two words, understatement and innovation.

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda is one of the most prestigious yacht clubs in the world. What does it owe its fame to precisely? Its trophies, its regulars or its mythical status?

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda is truly one of the best clubs in the world. For example, it is affiliated to the Yacht Club de Monaco, to the New York Yacht Club, to the Hamburg Yacht Club and to the Royal Squadron at Cowes. The latter is certainly ancient and of great standing. The difference is certainly due, amongst other things, to the places where they are based. Beyond prestige, the setting which surrounds the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda makes it unique because the location is unique. It is an amazing natural setting.

Which of your family’s boats holds the best memory for you?

Of all them, it has to be Temptation, the fourth boat my parents bought and then immediately changed the name to Rrose Sélavy. The whole family (I was ten at the time) crossed the Atlantic for the first time in her. It was an unforgettable experience…Thirteen days from Gran Canaria to Barbados. We left

halfway through December because during that period the Trade Winds blow from East to West so we had the wind at our back! We spent Christmas on the boat. Our boats all have this name which comes from Marcel Duchamp, the Dadaist artist who signed his works with the pseudonym Rrose Sélavy.

My father loved his art; furthermore, the two initials are those of my parents: Riccardo and Sciake...

You count travel and music among your passions. Do you listen to music when you are at sea? On board do you share it with others or listen with headphones, associating it with places and memories or emotions? Do you have other passions?

Sport for example?

Well, travel... Since I have been living and working in London I have had less opportunity and time to travel. As far as other sporting experiences are concerned, apart from regattas I also enjoy kitesurfing at sea. But I love the mountains where I enjoy several sports, above all skiing in the winter months. However, I can say that my true passion for music came about on a boat. When I was at university we began the Italian circuit MUMM30 and we often found ourselves in the depths of winter at deserted seaside places where everything was closed…a large number of the crew at the time were musicians and there was nothing to do in the evening other than play musical instruments.

Oltre il mare

U

n pensiero, quello di Stefano Bonadeo che va oltre il mare e spazia sul futuro delle prossime generazioni, sulla necessaria consapevolezza che ognuno di noi deve avere, anche nei piccoli gesti quotidiani, di particolare attenzione per preservare questa straordinaria risorsa che, come ci ricorda, è fonte primaria di vita.

Sul mare e dal mare sin da bambino, alla finanza e di nuovo un ritorno al mare non appena gli è possibile ma con uno spirito diverso, avventuroso e sportivo sì, ma anche con la certezza che le sue scelte il suo impegno etico a favore della salvaguardia del mare potranno essere condivise e prese a esempio da altri giovani. È da qui che partiamo con Stefano e la liaison con Yacht Club Costa Smeralda è naturale, poiché suo padre Riccardo è, per il secondo mandato consecutivo, Commodoro di questa prestigiosa istituzione, del Club che il mondo riconosce come sinonimo di eccellenza.

Stefano, Charta Smeralda, il patto per tutelare gli oceani, ha visto lo Yacht club Costa Smeralda capofila in difesa del Mare. Al di là dell’aspetto istituzionale, formale, cosa fa Yacht Club Costa Smeralda nel concreto per sensibilizzare i soci su questo tema così importante? Qual è il suo punto di vista personale?

Iniziamo col dire che Charta Smeralda è stata creata in occasione del 50esimo anniversario del YCCS, grazie al comitato scientifico di One ocean forum di cui faceva parte sia SDA Bocconi sia Unesco ed altri rappresentanti di istituti internazionali, incaricati di condurre un audit di sostenibilità sulla struttura ed i servizi del Club (organizzazione regate in chiave sostenibile). Questo ha voluto essere un punto di partenza, un esame di coscienza interno prima di farci portatori di questi valori all’esterno. È un documento espresso in 19 punti, che verrà fatto firmare a tutti i soci che dovranno aderire a questo questo codice etico. Ha l’obbiettivo di diventare un benchmark per tutti gli yacht club mondiali, ma anche i porti turistici, le scuole di vela…

Ne parlavamo giusto ieri con mio papà: bisogna sedersi intorno a un tavolo adesso, essere propositivi. Ad esempio, stiamo pensando di creare incentivi e valorizzare chi si dimostra diligente sul tema, disciplinato e, al contrario, segnalare chi è negligente. Le direttive della Charta andranno seguite. Un esempio pratico: tutti gli yacht club organizzano regate e le imbarcazioni che vi prendono parte portano a bordo bottiglie di plastica. Sarà richiesto che sia effettuata una raccolta differenziata e posto il divieto assoluto di buttare plastica e/o sigarette in mare. I meno virtuosi, chi non rispetterà questa direttiva potrà subire penalizzazioni di punteggio in gara, ma queste azioni sono ancora tutte da valutare...

Yacht Club Costa Smeralda è ambasciatore da cinquant’anni dell’italian lifestyle nel mondo. Come si declina lo stile italiano, oggi?

Gli armatori italiani di grandi yacht sono, in generale, consapevoli del loro ruolo di ambasciatori e che il loro atteggiamento in mare e a terra è oggetto di attenzione? In particolare se le loro barche espongono il vessillo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda?

Lo stile è sobrietà, misura. C’è questa sensibilità all’interno della compagine sociale. C’è una nicchia che interpreta quell’eleganza e, secondo me, è molto ben rappresentata dai soci dello Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. In due parole, understatement and innovation.

Lo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda è uno degli yacht club più prestigiosi al mondo. A cosa deve, in particolare la sua fama? Palmares, frequentazioni, mito?

Lo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda è davvero un club tra i migliori al mondo. É affiliato ad esempio allo Yacht Club de Monaco, al New York Yacht Club, all’Hamburg Yacht Club e al Royal Squadron di COWES. Quest’ultimo certamente antico e con uno status molto importante. La differenza certamente è, tra le altre, il luogo in cui essi si trovano. Al di là del prestigio, la cornice che circonda Yacht Club Costa Smeralda lo rende unico al mondo, perché il luogo è unico. È incastonato in una natura stupenda.

Tra le barche della sua famiglia, a quale è legato il ricordo più bello?

Soprattutto al Temptation, la quarta barca acquisita dai miei genitori a cui cambiarono subito il nome in Rrose Sélavy e con cui attraversammo l’oceano atlantico per la prima volta con la famiglia al completo (io avevo dieci anni). Un’esperienza indimenticabile…

Tredici giorni da Gran Canaria a Barbados. Siamo partiti a metà dicembre perché, in quel periodo, ci sono gli alisei che soffiano da oriente a occidente, quindi con il vento in poppa! Abbiamo trascorso il Natale in barca. Le nostre barche hanno tutte questo nome che viene da Marcel Duchamp, artista dadaista, che firmava le sue opere con lo pseudonimo Rrose Sélavy. A mio padre piace la sua arte. Inoltre le due iniziali sono le stesse dei nomi dei miei genitori: Riccardo e Sciake...

Tra le sue passioni ci sono viaggi e musica. La musica, in mare la ascolta? A bordo, la condivide o la sente in cuffia associandola a luoghi e a ricordi, emozioni? Ha altre passioni, sport?

Beh, i viaggi... Da quando vivo e lavoro a Londra ho meno opportunità e tempo di intraprenderne. Per quanto riguarda altre esperienze sportive, oltre alle regate, sempre in mare mi piace molto il kitesurf. Ma amo anche la montagna, dove pratico diversi sport tra cui soprattutto lo sci nei mesi invernali. Mentre posso dire che la vera passione per la musica sia nata proprio in barca. Durante il periodo universitario abbiamo iniziato a fare il circuito italiano MUMM30 e spesso ci trovavamo in posti di mare in pieno inverno completamente vuoti e con quasi tutto chiuso la sera... buona parte dell’equipaggio era formato allora da musicisti e la sera non c’era altro da fare che suonare gli strumenti musicali.

Versilia Yachting rendez-vous A “new outfit” for an important event…

Un “abito nuovo” per un appuntamento importante...

C

i sono tutti gli ingredienti per una “ricetta” di successo: Viareggio, la Versilia, le più belle barche che incroceranno nel Mediterraneo e nei Mari di tutto il mondo.

ll the ingredients needed for a successful recipe are there: Viareggio, Versilia, the most beautiful boats destined to cross paths on the Mediterranean and seas throughout the world.

Present: The Yacht World, Art, Design, Fashion and Food in a special setting.

For the second time, from the 10th to the 13th of May, Viareggio will host the international exhibition event dedicated to the top of the Nautical world: the best proposals from shipyards and a world class offering of accessories.

A great and unmissable event which will involve the whole of the Versilia region.

The second event will see more than 170 companies present.

Naturally, professionals from the sector are expected, but so too are fans and lovers of the sea and the chance of admiring marvellous vessels close up, together with accessories, selected objects and clothing, all with a nautical feel.

The concept and push for the event comes from Nautica Italiana (over 100 member businesses) and has been organised by Fiera Milano in collaboration with the Tuscan authority – Distretto Tecnologico per la Nautica e la Portualitá Toscana.

The presentation of this event - specific to the superyacht market - was revealed last March in Milan at a press conference in the studios of VYR’s official broadcasting station - Radio Monte Carlo.

There is a new display concept and there are new areas dedicated indeed, to encouraging business opportunities but also those of a social nature with themed parties and cocktail events.

A questo secondo appuntamento sono più di 170 le aziende espositrici.

Sono attesi operatori del settore, ma anche appassionati e amanti del mare, una occasione per ammirare da vicino meravigliose imbarcazioni, accessori e selezionati oggetti e capi di abbigliamento nel mood nautico.

La Manifestazione é stata ideata e voluta da Nautica Italiana ( che conta oggi oltre 100 aziende associate ), e organizzata da Fiera Milano in collaborazione con il Distretto Tecnologico per la Nautica e la Portualitá Toscana.

La presentazione di questo evento specifico per il mercato superyacht é stato presentato lo scorso mese di marzo a Milano, nel corso di una conferenza stampa all’interno degli studi di Radio Monte Carlo, emittente ufficiale del VYR. Un nuovo concept espositivo e nuove aree dedicate per favorire occasioni di business ma anche social con party e cocktail a tema.

lfa Romeo decided to call their sport utility wagon Stelvio: a homage to Italian beauty and to one of the most fascinating places in our mountains, both refer to the vocation of an elegant sport vehicle conceived for safety both on snowbound roads and in off-road situations. Putting its seal on this double identity is the Stelvio Cup Experience, a driving experience made available to guests of prestigious hotels at high altitude. We talk to Michele Dei Cas, owner of participating luxury structures like the Palace Hotel in Bormio.

Is it available to all the guests of your hotels?

Certainly. As well as offering a courtesy car service with transport to the town for shopping, for those who want it we offer a test-drive of the Stelvio on snow whilst explaining all the characteristics of an Alfa Romeo car.

It is an opportunity for all of our clients, throughout the season, to use this car that people are so curious about and which has been so very successful.

Is this the first time you have offered drive experience?

We have tried it before with one off events of 3 to 4 days for some car manufacturers. However now for the first time, we have a partnership to be developed with a constant presence. Alfa Romeo really wants people to get to know their cars: beautiful, comfortable and for everyday use.

You have both a national and international clientele.

Have you seen different reactions to the Alfa Stelvio?

I would say it is made up of 50% Italians and 50% other nationalities. Generally speaking, the reaction is pretty satisfactory. There are already a lot of Stelvios in Italy, and there are quite a few in the central north of Europe, elsewhere far fewer, so there is a lot of curiosity about the car. I think for many people this SUV will be a new discovery, as I am not sure how well known it is in other places.

When will the Stelvio Cup Experience begin?

The cars will arrive for the long holiday weekend of the Immacolata on December 8th and will be available throughout the whole season.

Abbiamo avuto esperienze spot con alcune case automobilistiche, in passato, eventi di 3 o 4 giorni. Per la prima volta, però, abbiamo una partnership che si sviluppa con una presenza costante. Dall’Alfa Romeo ci tengono a far conoscere le loro auto: belle, comode e da usare tutti i giorni.

Avete clientela nazionale e internazionale. Ci sono reazioni diverse rispetto all’Alfa Stelvio?

Diciamo 50% italiani e 50% stranieri. C’è soddisfazione, in generale. In Italia si vedono già tante Stelvio, in centro-nord Europa abbastanza. Altrove meno, quindi c’è molta curiosità.

Per molti questo suv sarà una scoperta, perché in certi luoghi non so quanto sia conosciuto.

Quando partirà la Stelvio cup experience?

Le auto arriveranno per il ponte dell’Immaccolata e saranno disponibili per tutta la stagione.

The Sea in Winter

I

t would really only seem possible to enjoy sea in late spring or in summer, when you can go diving in the waters of the Tigullian Bay or go sailing along the coast whilst admiring a landscape which is utterly unique. On the other hand, in winter these feelings of wellbeing can increase tenfold, even without diving, simply by enjoying the silence, the smells and the magic of the sea and the surrounding countryside. Both in the morning, before the sea mist dissipates and also at sunset bathed in warm evening light, to sail from Santa Margherita Ligure to Camogli, for example, is an experience which we carry with for a long time, perhaps forever. Some of Matteo Vernazza’s regular customers know this to be true; every year, even in this season they ask him to take them out to sea, maybe to go to a restaurant, or to go for a walk at the foot of the Portofino mountain to then return home by sea. The mild climate of Portofino and its coastline also makes winter-time magical…days of pleasant sunshine warming the skin, the sound of the sea, of little fishing boats coming back to the cove of nets in the morning bringing the fruit of their nocturnal labours onto dry land.

The frenzy of summer rhythms gives way to the admiration of the countryside, which actually because of the silence and the calm, is even more majestically unique. … No longer at first light, is there the yearning to get to the best docking spots or mooring buoys to win the best mooring for the day, true luxury is actually here in complete freedom, where everything belongs to us and nothing is ours.

Il mare d’inverno

S

embra impossibile godere del mare se non nella tarda primavera o in estate, quando ci si può immergere nelle acque del Tigullio o navigare sotto costa per ammirare un paesaggio unico al mondo. Invece, d’inverno, é possibile amplificare queste sensazioni di benessere, pur non tuffandosi ma godendo del silenzio, dei profumi e della magia del mare e del paesaggio che lo circonda.

Sia la mattina con la bruma sul mare, che al tramonto con una luce calda che inonda, navigare da Santa Margherita Ligure a Camogli, ad esempio, é un’esperienza che ci si porta dentro a lungo, forse per sempre. Lo sanno bene alcuni frequentatori habitué di Matteo Vernazza che, ogni anno, anche in questa stagione, chiedono a lui di uscire in mare, magari per raggiungere un ristorante o per intraprendere una passeggiata a piedi del monte di Portofino, per poi rientrare via mare. Il clima mite di Portofino e della sua costa rende magico anche il periodo invernale… giornate caratterizzate dal piacevole sole che scalda la pelle, dal suono del mare, dalle piccole barche da pesca che alla mattina rientrano dalla cala delle reti per portare a terra il frutto del loro lavoro notturno. La frenesia dei ritmi estivi lascia lo spazio all’ammirazione del paesaggio che proprio grazie al silenzio e alla quiete risalta nella sua maestosa unicità… non vi è più l’animato desiderio di raggiungere, alle prime luci del mattino, i migliori punti di attracco o i gavitelli della riserva marina per conquistare il miglior punto di ormeggio, il vero lusso sta proprio qui nell’assoluta libertà in cui tutto ci appartiene e nulla é nostro.

St. Barths Bucket Regatta French Antilles, March 15th - March 19th 2018

S

Perini Navi, world leader in the design and build of sailing and motor yachts, was once again one of the organisers of the St. Barths Bucket Regatta, the most exclusive international venue for large sailing yachts that was held take in the crystal waters of St. BarthĂŠlĂŠmy, French Antilles, between March 15th and March 19th 2018.

Started as a challenge between friends in Nantucket, the St Barths Bucket is now in its 31st edition. Perini Navi is one of the four stewards together with Royal Huisman, Rybovich and Vitters. The Bucket is one of the highlights of superyacht calendar, a unique event reserved to sailing yachts over 100 ft (30 metres).

Out of the 26 superyachts registered, Perini Navi has seen its colours defended by Bayesian (56m), Rosehearty (56m) and Zenji (56m). Other Perini Navi yachts, such as P2 and Luna attended the races and will be sailing in the waters around St Barths.

After the races, as is now a tradition, Perini Navi has opened the doors of Casa Perini to their guests for a relaxing evening of fun, good food and entertainment.

Perini Navi protagonista della 31esima edizione della St. Barths Bucket Regatta

erini Navi, leader mondiale nella progettazione e costruzione di navi a vela e a motore, anche quest’anno è stata tra gli organizzatori della St. Barths Bucket Regatta, il più importante ed esclusivo appuntamento internazionale dedicato ai velieri di grandi dimensioni che si è tenuto nelle acque cristalline dell’isola di St. Barthélémy, Antille Francesi, dal 15 al 19 marzo 2018.

Nata come sfida tra amici in un week end a Nantucket e ormai giunta alla 31esima edizione, la St Barths Bucket, di cui Perini Navi è uno dei quattro stewards insieme a Royal Huisman, Rybovich e Vitters, è un appuntamento fisso del calendario della nautica mondiale, un evento unico riservato esclusivamente agli yacht a vela di lunghezza superiore ai 100 piedi (oltre 30 metri).

At full speed!

Passion is often the true motor behind great inventions and great works and it is precisely from a passion for the sea that a great part of Italian boating history owes its inventions, as well as the production of objects created by inventive men who have made a success of their dreams.

L

uigi Castoldi is one of these extraordinary people. An engineer and businessman, a designer of agricultural machinery and lover of speed, who developed the first propeller engines for speedboats and in 1930, the speedboat with which his brother Achille gathered noteworthy successes – 5 world championships.

This passion for speed and the sea has been passed down to the children and grandchildren who are today at the head of the company Castoldi Jet. We wanted Giacomo Castoldi to tell us this wonderful story; one in which technology, sport and a love of racing (both on land and at sea) gave birth to the water-jet drive.

“My grandfather founded the first postwar factory by manufacturing mowing machines (BCS) to improve agricultural work – Giacomo Castoldi tells us – but Grandfather also liked sailing on rivers, something which often broke the propellers so he began to look for a system which would allow him to sail safely and imported the first water-jet unit from America. He wasn’t satisfied with it and he started to design his own and to manufacture them.”

further: after being the first to make waterjet drives, – something which today many companies do, as it is a secure system, both easy to use and manoeuvrable – in the 80s he designed the first water-scooter, the Waverider, not as powerful as those of today, which has starred in a Wim Wenders film, to be surpassed afterwards by those produced by the Japanese giants.

Today the company produces two types of product: tenders for superyachts and working boats and water-jet drives to be sold to other shipbuilders. These are two distinct markets which share the water- jet drive.

Starting from the manufacture of working boats, those for the Guardia di Finanza, Marina Militare and Carabinieri; Gruppo Castoldi Jet produced tenders for super-yachts and presented the first of these in 1999 for the Perini shipyard at the Monaco Yacht Show.

Although relationships have been built with various shipyards for the production of tenders for mega-yachts, this type of vessel

is however, produced in series; one in which the water- jet drive requires a specifically designed hull; therefore, these hulls are mass produced to improve performance and the customer is left simply with the choice of colour or possible small adjustments to the windscreen and bridge.

At the moment, the best-selling tenders are models 16 and 17.

The shipyard recalls its used tenders to re-fit them and then sell them on to the working boats market: tuna fishing boats for example.

“In the meantime, the adventure continues and even if no-one races in a boat like Uncle Achille any more”, Giacomo goes on to say, “I do enjoy trying out new vessels; whether it be on the lake, on the river or at sea; by creating a series of pseudo adventures such as the river courses in Pavia or Venice or around Croatia and in any case to test new arrivals at Varazze and on Lake Maggiore.”

And who knows how many other spirited, high-speed stories the Castoldi family is preparing for us!

Vado Al Massimo La passione è spesso il vero motore che sta alla base delle grandi invenzioni e delle grandi opere, e proprio alla passione per il mare che molta parte della storia della nautica italiana deve le sue invenzioni o la realizzazione di prodotti fatti da uomini geniali che hanno cercato di realizzare i propri sogni.

U

na di queste persone straordinarie è stato Luigi Castoldi, ingegnere e imprenditore, progettista di macchine agricole, amante della velocità, che ha sviluppato i primi propulsori per motoscafi e nel 1930 il primo motoscafo con cui il fratello Achille, che vinse poi 5 campionati del mondo, colse notevoli successi .

Questa passione per il mare e la velocità l’hanno ereditata i figli e i nipoti che oggi sono a capo dell’azienda Castoldi Jet, e proprio dal nipote Giacomo Castoldi abbiamo voluto farci raccontare questa bellissima storia in cui la tecnologia, lo sport, l’amore per la corsa, sia su strada che in acqua , ha dato vita agli idrogetti . “È stato mio nonno a fondare la prima azienda nel dopoguerra producendo macchine motofalciatrici (BCS) per ottimizzare il lavoro agricolo. - ci racconta Giacomo Castoldi - Ma al nonno piaceva anche navigare sui fiumi cosa che spesso gli faceva rompere le eliche. Cominciò allora cercare un sistema che gli permettesse di navigare in sicurezza e importò dall’America il primo idrogetto. Non contento iniziò a progettarne uno suo e a produrne.”

Ma la creatività del nonno si spinse anche oltre: dopo aver realizzato per primo gli idrogetti, cosa che adesso molti fanno in quanto è un sistema sicuro , facile e manovrabile, progettò anche la prima moto d’acqua negli anni 80, la Waverider, meno potente di quelle di oggi , protagonista anche di un film di Wim Wenders, soppiantata poi da quelle dei giganti giapponesi.

Oggi l’azienda produce due tipologie di prodotto: tender per superyachts e barche da lavoro, e idrogetti che vengono venduti ad altri cantieri. Si tratta di due diversi mercati che hanno in comune l’idrogetto.

Cominciando con la produzione di barche da lavoro, pensando a quelle realizzate per la Guardia di Finanza, Marina Militare, Carabinieri, il Gruppo Castoldi Jet ha poi realizzato i tender per i superyacht presentando il primo nel 1999 al Monaco Yacht Show per il cantiere Perini.

Pur avviando una relazione con vari cantieri per la realizzazione di tender per mega-yachts , questo tipo di imbarcazione rimane comunque un prodotto seriale laddove l’idrogetto richiede una carena studiata apposta e pertanto vanno prodotte in massa per migliorare le prestazioni lasciando alla customizzazione solo la scelta del colore o a piccoli accorgimenti relativi al parabrezza e alla console.

In questo momento i tender più venduti sono il modello 16 e 17.

Il cantiere riprende i suoi tender usati per ricondizionarli e venderli al mercato delle barche da lavoro come, ad esempio, barche per la pesca dei tonni.

“E intanto, l’avventura continua, e anche se nessuno corre più in barca come faceva lo zio Achille - continua a raccontare Giacomo - mi piace provare le nuove imbarcazioni sia su lago, sia sui fiumi che in mare creando una serie di pseudo avventure come il percorso fluviale Pavia – Venezia , oppure alcuni giri della Croazia, e comunque testare le novità a Varazze e sul Lago Maggiore.”

E chissà quante altre storie di peripezie e alta velocità ci sta ancora preparando la famiglia Castoldi!

Tankoa The shipyard becomes a boutique

Tankoa Yachts is present on the nautical scene with the construction of large vessels featuring innovative solutions and created bespoke for the most demanding clients.

To better understand this business, we spoke to the Chairman of the Board, Guido Orsi and to some of the managers.

T

he Tankoa Yachts project started in 2008, thanks to a team of managers and investors already involved in yachting and sharing long and successful professional backgrounds.

A story begun at the Cantiere Baglietto di Varazze in 1996 bringing the established brand from Varazze to a manufacturing level whose quality is recognised throughout the world.

The passion for sailing and the sea linked to the need for larger areas to aspire to building greater sized yachts as well as an offer to buy the Cantieri Baglietto by an investor, jump started the second phase of the operation and that was to find an adequate area big enough to be able to build yachts mainly in the range of 50 to 90 metres, without however placing any limits on the size.

From its founding, Tankoa Yachts has been based on a new philosophy in yacht building – says Chairman of the Board, Guido Orsi – a high quality nautical shipyard for 50 to 90 metre yachts. At Tankoa we have united ethical success in business, high engineering quality and the DNA of uniquely Italian design and flexibility».

Each component of the Tankoa team has always worked in the nautical sector. The General Manager, Edoardo Ratto coordinates the work and takes care of the construction of project design, he is also present during testing of each of the various models presented by Tankoa to the yachting industry.

«Up to the present we have built and delivered 2 models – says Renzo Chelazzi from the commercial office, working in close contact with the Sales Director Michel Karsenti – Suerte a yacht which is 69,3 metres long, 11,6 metres wide with a top speed of 16,5

knots, and Vertige, a yacht which is 49,9 metres long and 9,4 metres wide, with a vertical prow intentionally built under the target 500 GT, entirely in lightweight alloy with a top speed of 16 knots».

There is a yacht under construction which is a 72 metres of circa 1.600 GT and a 50 metre yacht with hybrid propulsion which allows it to reach a top speed of 18 knots with combined propulsion.

«The geographical position, 500 metres from the international airport, at the exit off the Genova Airport motorway and in front of a brand-new marina, make it strategic for operative reasons often sought by boat-owners and skippers”, concludes the Managing Director, Euro Contenti.

Starting out practically from scratch with a new brand has been their greatest challenge.

Acquiring the trust of boat-owners who are used to hearing the usual names in global shipbuilding, the setting out of adequate marketing and production strategies have been two goals we set ourselves and for Tankoa from day one. We have succeeded to date by delivering two jewels of the sea and by having a client who is building his second boat with us and we are also made aware thanks to the numerous requests we receive about our models: both those under development and those which are under construction.

Our ambition for the moment is to have four yachts under construction – two of them ready for delivery and two being outfitted, and to be able to renew Tankoa’s fleet with yachts bigger than 70/80 metres, going on to consider further enlargements.

Tankoa Yachts, un nuovo cantiere che da qualche anno è venuto alla ribalta grazie alla costruzione di grandi imbarcazioni dalle soluzioni innovative.

Per capire meglio questa realtà ne abbiamo parlato con il Presidente, Guido Orsi, e alcuni dei suoi managers.

T

ankoa Yachts è un progetto nato nel 2008, grazie ad un team di manager e investitori già coinvolti nello yachting e con una lunga storia professionale di successi. Storia iniziata con il Cantiere Baglietto di Varazze nel 1996 che ha riportato lo storico brand di Varazze ad un livello di produzione di qualità riconosciuto in tutto il mondo.

La passione per il mare e la nautica, legata al bisogno di aree più importanti per ambire alla costruzione di yachts di taglia maggiore, oltre ad un’offerta di acquisto dei Cantieri Baglietto da parte di un investitore, ha fatto scattare la seconda fase dell’operazione e cioè trovare un’area adeguata per poter costruire yachts principalmente nel range da 50 a 90 metri senza però porre limiti di taglia.

Fin dall’istituzione, Tankoa Yachts si è basato su una nuova filosofia di costruzione di yacht: «Le parole “Cantiere Boutique” descrivono la nostra filosofia – dice il Presidente Guido Orsi – un cantiere navale di alta qualità per yacht da 50 a 90 metri.

In Tankoa abbiamo unito con successo l’etica negli affari, l’alta qualità ingegneristica e il DNA italiano nel design e nella flessibilità».

Ogni componente del team Tankoa ha sempre lavorato nel settore nautico. Il Direttore Generale Edoardo Ratto coordina le lavorazioni e segue le costruzioni dalla progettazione, assistendo alle prove in vasca dei vari modelli che Tankoa presenta all’industria Yachting.

«Ad oggi sono 2 i modelli costruiti e consegnati – racconta Renzo Chelazzi dell’ufficio commerciale, che lavora a stretto contatto col Direttore Commerciale Michel Karsenti – Suerte, yacht lungo 69,3 metri, largo 11,6 metri con una velocità massima di 16,5 nodi, e Vertige, yacht lungo 49,9 metri e largo 9,4 metri, con prua verticale costruito volutamente sotto il target di 500 GT, interamente in lega leggera, che raggiunge la velocità massima di 16nodi».

In costruzione, un 72 metri di circa 1.600 GT e uno yacht di 50 metri con propulsione ibrida in grado di raggiungere la massima velocita di 18 nodi in propulsione combinata.

«La posizione geografica, a 500 metri dall’aeroporto internazionale, sull’uscita autostradale di Genova Aeroporto e di fronte ad una nuovissima Marina, la rendono strategica per necessità operative che sono spesso ricercate dagli Armatori e dai Comandanti» conclude l’Amministratore Delegato, Euro Contenti.

Ripartire praticamente da zero con un nuovo Brand è stata la sfida più grande. Acquisire la fiducia degli Armatori che sono ormai abituati a sentire i soliti nomi della cantieristica mondiale, l’impostazione di una strategia di marketing e di produzione adeguata sono stati due obbiettivi che ci siamo prefissati sin dal primo giorno di vita di Tankoa. Lo abbiamo fatto consegnando ad oggi due gioielli del mare ed avendo già un Cliente che sta costruendo la sua seconda barca con noi e lo riscontriamo anche dalle numerose richieste che ci pervengono sui nostri modelli sia in sviluppo che in costruzione.

Le ambizioni sono quelle di arrivare per il momento ad avere 4 yacht in costruzione dei quali due in consegna e due in allestimento e poter annoverare nella flotta Tankoa anche yachts di taglie superiori ai 70/80 metri per poi valutare ulteriori ampliamenti.

7500 keystrokes with Andrea Fantini, the ocean mariner born in 1982 and a Class 40 yacht called Enel Green Power.

The best part of being a journalist is giving a voice to other people’s dreams.

In this interview, the dream belongs to Andrea Fantini, the 35-year-old transoceanic mariner, who flies the Italian flag and fills the sails of the Enel Green Power yacht across the oceans. Fantini has a defined passion from when he chose the ultramarine blue of the sea to the blue of a F10 Malaguti when at high school. He says he has a couple of extra wrinkles but the dream is still the same: to sail the seas of the world singehanded and to crest the waves of the Vendée-Globe.

Fantini has the typical kindness of the shy, he wears a faint beard and his hair is slightly mussed up. When I interview him, he has a sore throat and says: “At sea the atmosphere is so healthy that the defences of your immune system are lowered and when you are on land in the midst of all the dirty atmosphere we live in…”. He has just disembarked from the Magalé, «a boat with a winning pedigree, one in which Giovanni Soldini won everything. She’s from 2007, but she was conceived in Giovanni’s brain, so innovative compared to the others of the time, that the gap with today’s boats is not significant. We did a lot of ship-fitting to modify her and make her more competitive ». Fantini made his first Atlantic crossing in 2006, that same year saw the launch of the Magalé. Since then he has never ceased to sail across the oceans, setting records on board a Class40 and on a 70 foot Maserati skippered by Soldini, with whom he beat the world record for the San Francisco-Shanghai route. “Giovanni’s name always comes to me when I talk…at sea he is remarkable. The

experience with Maserati was enlightening.

Two years and almost twice circling the globe. But I couldn’t follow my dream by being a part of someone else’s project”. I might add that Fantini, who is from Ferrara as I am, as well as eating up miles with Soldini and having a name which rhymes with his, is like Soldini one of the most Breton of the Italians. Because as we know, ocean sailing is practically unheard of in Italy whereas in France it has a following similar to that of football. “There is no culture for it here, it is all in Brittany. Here, sailing is seen as an elite sport even though we live surrounded by water. I started when I was small but the gap starts with children (or with their parents?!) who prefer to play football rather than go out to sea. It is a pity because it would be a massive life education”. Fantini arrived in France, on a boat from Mexico. He stayed in the harbour for several months and then in 2011 he set off again, thanks to the first sponsor who financed the whole season and his first ocean regatta. He went back this year with Magalé: “I and Alberto (Bona, the Italian skipper who he competed with in the Transat Jacques Vabre 2017, ed.) took the boat from Genova and took a house together with the whole Andrea Fantini racing team where we lived during the ship-fitting. Invariably we kill ourselves with tiredness but we do create a big family”. Fantini is far too empathetic a person to imagine that he loves the idea of becoming one of the most solitary men on the globe, but this is my problem as I am not an expert on ocean sailing. “I was able to make my dream a profession because I found someone who had the same dreams and who

was able to make this a tool for a company like Enel Green Power”. The technological partnership with the company at the head of the Enel group will last for two years and will allow Fantini’s team to make Magalé 100% eco powered. “We will show the world that it is possible to cross an ocean without using fossil fuels, with only solar panels a hydrogenerator and an electric engine”.

Among the partners is Credimi, the digital solution which reveals online the invoices of small and medium sized businesses, the information technology of Alfa group and the lawyers from Akran intellectual property, Slam with its super high-tech clothing for the sea and the always present Garmin marine.

So, only renewable energy to avoid a huge problem which is afflicting our seas and has caused not a few problems to the Fantini team. “Our first important sporting event in 2017 was the Transat Jacque Vabre, the coffee route. We left Le Havre heading for Salvador de Bahia in Brazil. After five days of sailing, we hit a barrel or container that was hidden underwater which damaged our rudder. We started to take on water and we had to find a solution to contain the damage”.

The gods of the sea together with quick temporary repairs pushed them up to the coast of Portugal, where they could plan the next steps keeping to mind the incredible force of Fantini’s project for a yacht which would use only renewable energy. “We could have had a good result on a sporting level, but sailing is a mechanical sport and pollution of the sea is a real and serious problem. Whilst we were creating the San Francisco-Shanghai record, we saw all kinds of everything. In the Pacific,

2,000 miles from California and 3,000 miles from China, is the famous island of plastic, you sail in a boundless sea of rubbish, tyres, which moves with the currents; in the Atlantic we are heading in that direction, above all when you consider that container ships lose 10,000 units of their cargo every year. … it’s a mess”. But you know, the sailing elite have broken a thousand boats to be able to take their place on the winning podium and preparation is key: “It never stops. Great victories come from preparation.

If everything is working correctly, when you are in the regatta you have already done half the work”. Fantini talks about an ocean crossing as though he were talking about driving a car from Milan to Rome stopping off in Ancona, or almost. Even though as he says it, his eyes shine like those of a child faced with sweets. “Passion is the motive. I wouldn’t do something else for any reason in the world. Although the days at sea are more numerous than those on land and when you think about life on board you feel like you must be crazy. Months spent in conditions of hardship: eating poorly, soaking wet, it’s cold. If you are sailing at speed with all of that adrenaline and stress you only sleep for a four hour stretch if you are in a professional team and get micro-sleeps of 15-20 minutes (polyphasic sleep ed) if you are alone.

But the human being is the most perfect machine that exists, when you get into the rhythm it makes you sleep in a more efficient way and once you are back on land you remember only the positive aspects and it makes you get back on board straight away”. As Mark Twain said, if you don’t know it’s impossible, you can do it and Fantini continues to recall great moments: “The arrival of the first Jacque Vabre in Costa Rica… we were the only Italians.

Or in South Africa with Maserati… after crossing the Indian Ocean we arrived in Cape Town alongside whales almost into the harbour itself, really thrilling”. Future thrills, from February onwards will however, be in the public domain. Sky is producing a documentary for the Icarus format of 10 episodes starting with the beginning of Fantini’s adventure up to the next attempts at a record in the Mediterranean (such as the Marseille-Carthage), the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe singlehanded in 2018 and projects for 2019. Because there are very few sports like sailing which allow the telling of incredible human stories in an incredible adventure with nature.

L’aspetto migliore di essere giornalista è far parlare i sogni d’altri. In quest’intervista si racconta quello di Andrea Fantini, navigatore transoceanico 35enne, che batte bandiera italiana e fa gonfiare per gli oceani una vela Enel Green Power.

Fantini ha una passione precisa da quando ha preferito il blu oltremare all’azzurro di un F10 Malaguti di quando era liceale.

Dice di avere due rughe in più, ma il sogno è sempre quello: planare per i mari del mondo in solitaria e cavalcare le onde della Vendée-Globe. Fantini ha la gentilezza dei timidi, porta la barba appena allungata e i capelli un po’ in disordine. Quando lo intervisto ha mal di gola e dice: “In acqua c’è un ambiente così salubre che le difese immunitarie si abbassano e quando arrivi a terra con tutto lo schifo in cui viviamo…“. È appena sceso da Magalé, «una barca con un pedigree vincente, con cui Giovanni Soldini ha vinto tutto. È del 2007, ma è stata concepita dalla mente di Giovanni, talmente innovativa rispetto alle altre di quegli anni che il gap con le attuali non è così consistente.

E abbiamo fatto un grande cantiere per modificarla e renderla più competitiva». Fantini ha compiuto la sua prima attraversata atlantica nel 2006, proprio l’anno prima che Magalé venisse varata. Da allora naviga senza sosta attraversando gli oceani e macinando record, a bordo di Class40 così come sul 70 piedi Maserati capitanato da Soldini, con cui ha battuto il record mondiale sulla rotta San Francisco-Shanghai. “Il nome di Giovanni torna sempre quando parlo… in mare è veramente fortissimo. L’esperienza con Maserati è stata illuminante. Due anni e quasi due giri del mondo. Ma non riuscivo a seguire il mio sogno facendo parte del progetto di qualcun altro”. Potrei aggiungere che Fantini, che è ferrarese come chi scrive, oltre ad aver macinato miglia con Soldini e avere il cognome in rima, è come lui uno dei più bretoni tra gli italiani. Perché si sa, la vela oceanica in Italia è cosa pseudo sconosciuta, mentre in Francia è seguita quasi come il calcio. “Non esiste la cultura, tutto è in Bretagna. Qui la vela è ancora percepita come uno sport di elite, nonostante viviamo circondati dall’acqua. Io ho iniziato da piccolo ma la lacuna parte dai bambini (o dai genitori?!), che preferiscono giocare a pallone ad andare in mezzo al mare. È un peccato perché sarebbe una scuola di vita enorme”. In Francia, Fantini ci è arrivato nel 2009 con una barca dal Messico. È stato in porto qualche mese, per poi ripartire nel 2011 grazie al primo sponsor che gli ha finanziato tutta la stagione e la sua prima regata oceanica. Ci è tornato quest’anno con Magalé: “Io e Alberto (Bona, skipper italiano con cui ha gareggiato nella Transat Jacques Vabre 2017, ndr) abbiamo preso la barca a Genova e una casa insieme a tutto il team dell’Andrea Fantini racing, dove abbiamo vissuto durante il cantiere. Regolarmente ci si ammazza, ma si crea una grande famiglia”. Fantini è fin troppo empatico per pensare che possa adorare l’idea di diventare uno degli uomini più solitari del globo, ma è un mio problema, da non esperta di vela oceanica.

“Sono riuscito a fare del mio sogno un mestiere perché ho trovato qualcuno che sognasse con me e che lo rendesse un tool per un’azienda come Enel Green Power”. La partnership tecnologica con la società che fa capo al gruppo Enel sarà di due anni e permetterà al team di Fantini di rendere Magalé eco power al 100%. “Mostreremo al mondo che è possibile attraversare un oceano senza combustibili fossili, ma solo con pannelli solari, un idrogeneratore e un motore elettrico”.

Tra i partner anche Credimi, soluzione digitale che provvede ad anticipare online le fatture delle piccole medie imprese, le soluzioni informatiche di Alfa group e quelle legali di Akran intellectual property, Slam con il suo abbigliamento super hitech per il mare e l’immancabile Garmin marine. Solo energie rinnovabili quindi, per ovviare a un problema enorme che affligge i nostri mari e ha appena causano non poche grane al team di Fantini. “Il primo importante impegno sportivo del 2017 era la Transat Jacque Vabre, la rotta del caffè. Siamo partiti da Le Havre alla volta di Salvador de Bahia in Brasile. Dopo cinque giorni di navigazione abbiamo preso un barile o un container semi sommerso, che ha danneggiato il timone. Abbiamo iniziato a imbarcare acqua e dovuto trovare una soluzione per limitare i danni”. Gli dei del mare, insieme a rapide aggiustature di fortuna, li hanno sospinti fino alle coste del Portogallo, dove

poter pianificare le prossime attività, con in mente la forza incredibile del progetto pensato da Fantini per una vela che privilegia tout court le energie rinnovabili. “Potevamo fare un risultato molto buono a livello sportivo, ma la vela è uno sport meccanico e l’inquinamento marino è un problema grave, reale.

Mentre facevamo il record San Francisco-Shanghai abbiamo visto di tutto. Nel Pacifico, a 2mila miglia dalla California e 3mila dalla Cina, c’è la famosa isola di plastica, si veleggia in un mare infinito di detriti, copertoni, che si muove con le correnti; in Atlantico siamo in quella direzione, soprattutto contando che le navi porta container ne perdono 10mila in un anno… è un bel macello”. Ma si sa, quelli del gotha della vela hanno spaccato mille barche prima di salire sul podio e la preparazione è il nocciolo: “Non finisce mai. Le grandi vittorie arrivano grazie alla preparazione. Se funziona tutto, quando sei in regata hai fatto metà del lavoro”. Fantini racconta di una traversata oceanica come se si trattasse di guidare un’auto da Milano a Roma facendo una digressione verso Ancona o poco più. Questo nonostante gli brillino gli occhi come ai bambini davanti a una caramella. “Il movente è la passione. Non farei cosa diversa per niente al mondo. Nonostante i giorni in mare siano più che quelli in terra e quando ripensi alla vita a bordo ti senti un matto. Sono mesi trascorsi in condizioni durissime: mangi male, sei bagnato fradicio, fa freddo. Se stai andando sparato, con tutta quell’adrenalina e lo stress, dormi quattro ore filate se sei in equipaggio di professionisti e micro-sonni (sonno polifasico, ndr) da 15-20 minuti se sei solo. Ma l’essere umano è la macchina più perfetta che esista, quando prende il ritmo ti fa dormire in modo più efficiente e una volta scesi a terra ti ricorda solo gli aspetti positivi e ti fa riimbarcare subito”. Come diceva Mark Twain, se non sai che sia impossibile, riesci a farlo e Fantini continua a ricordare i momenti belli: “L’arrivo della prima Jacque Vabre, in Costa Rica… eravamo gli unici italiani.

O in Sud Africa con Maserati… dopo aver percorso l’Oceano indiano, siamo entrati a Cape town con le balene quasi fino in porto, super emozionante”. Le emozioni future, da febbraio, saranno invece di pubblico dominio. Sky sta producendo per il format Icarus un documentario di dieci puntate dall’inizio dell’avventura di Fantini fino ai prossimi tentativi di record del Mediterraneo (come il Marsiglia-Cartagine), la Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe in solitario del 2018 e i progetti 2019. Perché ci sono pochi sport come la vela che permettono di raccontare storie umane in un’avventura incredibile con la natura.

This trade fair marks an upswing in double figures for the sector and ends a golden summer for tourism and visitors for the city of Genova. In practical terms, it has been a trade fair of optimism for sailing but also for the county town. After times of economic crisis, the year 2017 has been shown to be that of a new collaboration for institutions and all parties involved, bringing with it huge successes in numbers.

All of the institutions are ready to roll up their sleeves and start tomorrow to build a great trade fair for 2018 together”. Giovanni Toti, head of the Regione Liguria County Council, draws a positive conclusion from the Boat Fair - Salone della Nautica di Genova 2017.

In his opinion what is the main national event dedicated to the sector is destined to seize, in a broad sense, the recent relaunch introduced by the Regione Liguria County Council and to do even more. “We have drawn up an agreement between Ucina, Regione Liguria, Confcommercio and Comune di Genova to make stable and to improve the Boat Fair. This has given us a further incentive to continue over the coming years, to carry forward that collaboration which has already given rise to widespread synergy with collateral events throughout the city and the region. We signed this agreement because we feel that the Boat Fair should see further development as permanent patrimony and that it should stay here. It is an event which is central to the Italian nautical offering and represents the prelude to a season of growth and development seeing investments intended for infrastructure, for reception of tourists and

in favour of the economy”. The idea in truth regards the relaunch of Genova which has been silent for too long: “The Terzo Valico railway is going ahead, the Gronda motorway is on the horizon, all the conditions are in place to see one of the largest construction sites in Italy come into being a few months from now.

The aspect of the county town is changing.

After many years as a sleeping beauty, today Genova is regaining an understanding of the economic weight it carries and is working to occupy its place as queen of the Mediterranean; a position which it held and should hold once more”. Councillor Toti makes clear that as far as sailing is concerned: “Liguria will become its capital again. Next year we want to see growth in the sector and in the number of visitors to the trade fair; we hope that the Port of Genova and the surrounding area may become a point of reference for mooring all year long”. A cherished dream? “That the entire waterfront project might be developed, this must transform the eastern part of the splendid marine amphitheatre we have here with a view to development of tourism, as has been carried out so well in Barcelona and by our French friends”.

Questo Salone segna una ripresa a doppia cifre del settore e conclude un’estate d’oro del turismo e delle presenze nella città di Genova. In pratica, è stato un Salone dell’ottimismo per la nautica ma anche per il capoluogo. Dopo tempi di crisi, nel 2017 si è manifestata una nuova collaborazione istituzionale di tutti gli enti coinvolti che ha portato numeri di grande successo. E tutte le istituzioni sono pronte a rimboccarsi le maniche già da domani, per costruire insieme un grande Salone nel 2018”. Giovanni Toti, governatore della Regione Liguria, ha fatto un bilancio positivo del Salone della Nautica di Genova 2017. Il principale appuntamento nazionale dedicato al settore, a suo avviso, è destinato poi a cogliere il rilancio recente che Regione Liguria ha innestato in senso lato e a fare ancora di più. “Abbiamo stipulato un protocollo d’intesa tra Ucina, Regione Liguria, Confcommercio e Comune di Genova per stabilizzare e migliorare il Salone nautico. Questo ci ha dato un’ulteriore spinta per proseguire negli anni successivi, portando avanti quella collaborazione che già oggi ha dato vita a una sinergia globale con eventi collaterali in tutta la città e nella regione. Abbiamo siglato questo protocollo perché riteniamo che il Salone vada ulteriormente sviluppato come patrimonio permanente e debba restare qui. È un appuntamento centrale nell’offerta della nautica italiana e rappresenta il preludio a una stagione di crescita e sviluppo, con investimenti previsti sulle infrastrutture, sulla ricettività turistica e a favore dell’economia”. L’idea vera è quella del rilancio di Genova, per troppo tempo silente: “Il Terzo Valico sta andando avanti, la Gronda è all’orizzonte, ci sono tutte le condizioni per vedere uno dei più grandi cantieri italiani sorgere di qui a qualche mese. Il capoluogo ligure sta cambiando pelle. Dopo molti anni in cui Genova è stata una bella addormentata, oggi sta riacquistando la consapevolezza del peso che ha nell’economia e sta lavorando per tornare a occupare quello spazio da regina del Mediterraneo che aveva e deve avere”. Rispetto alla nautica, ha precisato Toti: “La Liguria tornerà capitale. Per il prossimo anno vogliamo una crescita del settore e dei visitatori del Salone; ci auguriamo poi che il Porto di Genova e le sue aree possano diventare riferimento per lo stazionamento, tutto l’anno”. Sogno nel cassetto? “Che sia sviluppato l’intero progetto del waterfront, che deve trasformare parte di levante dello splendido anfiteatro marino che abbiamo, secondo una prospettiva di sviluppo turistico, come ben fatto a Barcellona o dai nostri amici francesi”.

These photographs show a work by the artist Antonio Guccione, who will launch the programme of exhibitions with a personal show. Considered to be amongst the most incisive international artists, Antonio Guccione has made images for important publicity campaigns: Prada, Gucci, Officine Panerai and Yves Saint Laurent alongside significant artistic projects. Furthermore, he has taken portraits of numerous celebrities and has collaborated with both magazines and cinema.

It’s time to get back out to sea.

The hull scraped clean of barnacles; masts, bulbous bows and rigging checked; engines tested, oil and filters ready; straps, tie clamps and sleeves tightened. As nature awakens so too does the compelling desire to put to sea, to sail with the sun on your face in warm air that smells of summer. To put good music on and to face the waves on a sea that is still a bit capricious: just like the spring that kept us waiting so long this year.

Che fretta c’era, maledetta Primavera?

(Why the rush, cursed Spring?)

I am a DJ and I communicate through song titles and refrains that have become part of the collective consciousness. If you don’t remember Loretta Goggi’s song at the festival of Sanremo in 1981 then you and I belong to different generations. Perhaps you are more familiar with “Primavera” by Marina Rei, “Let’s breathe in the air and live waiting for spring”, released in 1997.

Not that one either? Ah well, you really are Millennials then!

Nessuno vuole essere Robin (Nobody wants to be Robin) Above all on a boat. We adapt to secondary roles only when we are temporary guests with no experience. Securing fenders is not rocket science, but all of us can tell funny stories about ropes left untied and fenders lost at sea. Cesare Cremonini’s lovely song “Nessuno vuole essere Robin” (Nobody wants to be Robin) takes the theme of eternal runners-up and how everyone wants the super hero’s role. Everybody a skipper and no one a bowman. But above all, sailing is a team activity and everyone on board is important to handle the boat in a regatta.

Furthermore, bear in mind that very often the skipper/boat owner is not capable of doing anything else; as my friend Walter Pizzoli explained…

Finesse To sail requires finesse, as the refrain of the Bruno Mars song says: “We out here drippin’ in finesse” A message for everyone whether on a yacht or a motorboat. That light aristocratic finesse remembered with nostalgia and which belonged to more genteel times; when ostentation was abhorred and elegance was a must. Never be flashy, garrulous, rowdy, or over the top. Elegance comes from attention to detail and to the “fine connaisseur” details are not to be overlooked.

Whatever it Takes This song by Imagine Dragons perfectly describes the sense of freedom when sailing: “I do whatever it takes, Cause I love how it feels when I break the chains”. Whether it’s an adrenaline-fuelled regatta or a pleasure trip with friends, the sea offers wonderful sensations. All that’s needed is the right company; as is always the case when experiencing the pleasures of life, is it not?

Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day I take my leave with one of my favourite songs. It’s by the British band Morcheeba and says: In this day and age, it’s so easy to stress ‘Cause people act strange and you can never second guess.

It is an invitation to stay calm to know how to wait, because even Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day. Fine days will return, the weather forecast will favour seagoing, spring will explode and turn straightaway into summer.

The true sailor knows how to wait and that the longer the wait the more memorable will be the days spent at sea.

E’ il momento di ritornare in mare. Carena ripulita dalle incrostazioni, bulbi e alberi controllati, sartiame verificato.

Motori provati, olio e filtri a posto, cinghie, fascette e manicotti stretti. Con il risveglio della natura arriva il desiderio prepotente di uscire in mare, di ritornare a navigare con il sole in faccia, nell’aria tiepida che profuma di bella stagione. Di mettere su della bella musica e di affrontare le onde di un mare ancora un po’ capriccioso come la Primavera, che si è fatta aspettare quest’anno.

Che fretta c’era, maledetta Primavera?

Sono un dj e comunico per titoli di canzoni e per ritornelli che sono entrati nell’immaginario collettivo. Se non ricordate la canzone di Loretta Goggi al festival di Sanremo del 1981 vuol dire che io e voi siamo di generazioni differenti. Magari vi è più familiare “Primavera” di Marina Rei, respiriamo l’aria e viviamo aspettando primavera, uscita nel 1997. Neanche quella? Ah ma siete proprio dei millennials allora!

Nessuno vuole essere Robin Soprattutto in barca. Ci si adatta a ruoli di secondo piano solo quando si è ospiti temporanei e senza esperienza. Non ci vuole una gran scienza a mettere fuori i parabordi ma tutti possiamo raccontare di buffi incidenti tipo cime non legate e parabordi perduti in mare. La bella canzone di Cesare Cremonini “Nessuno vuole essere Robin” affronta il tema degli eterni secondi, e di come tutti si voglia un ruolo da super-eroe. Tutti skipper e nessun aiutoprodiere. Ma soprattutto la vela è un’attività di squadra e tutti a bordo sono importanti nel gestire al meglio una barca in regata.

Inoltre tenete presente che molto spesso lo skipper-armatore non sarebbe in grado di fare nient’altro che quello, come mi spiegava l’amico Walter Pizzoli...

Finesse Andar per mare richiede finesse, come dice la canzone di Bruno Mars che nel ritornello dichiara: “We out here drippin’ in finesse”.

Un messaggio che andrebbe raccolto da tutti, a vela e a motore.

Quella finesse un po’ aristocratica che si ricorda con nostalgia e che apparteneva ad una signorilità d’altri tempi, che aborriva l’ostentazione e faceva dell’eleganza un must. Mai essere vistosi, ciarlieri e chiassosi sopra le righe. L’eleganza è fatta di cura dei dettagli, e ai “fine connaisseurs” i dettagli non sfuggono.

Whatever it takes Questa canzone degli Imagine Dragons descrive bene la sensazione di libertà dell’andar per mare: I do whatever it takes Cause I love how it feels when I break the chains. Che sia una adrenalinica regata o una piacevole uscita con amici il mare regala splendide senzazioni. Tutto quello che ci vuole è la compagnia giusta, come sempre quando si tratta di assaporare i piaceri della vita. Dico bene?

Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day E ci salutiamo con una delle mie canzoni preferite. È dei britannici Morcheeba e dice: In this day and age it’s so easy to stress, “Cause people act strange and you can never second guess”. È un invito alla calma, a saper aspettare perchè anche Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day. Torneranno i giorni belli, il meteo favorevole alle uscite in mare, esploderà la Primavera e poi sarà subito Estate.

Il vero marinaio sa aspettare e più lunga è l’attesa e più saranno memorabili le giornate in mare.

Excellent vintages The Ferrari Perlé Zero

ust in time for the party season, Ferrrai presents the new and innovative Perlé zero: not a simple pas dosé, but rather a mosaic of vintages taking the refined art of cuvée creation to new heights. This is, in fact, achieved after thoughtful work in the wine-cellar, where base wines from several vintages are matured with different materials: stainless steel brings out the expression of fruit and the aromatic elegance of Chardonnay, wood confers structure and richness of flavour and glass gives further depth and concentration. Once bottled, the cuvée undergoes lengthy ageing on the lees for at least six years before disgorgement without added sugars, that is to say zero dosage. Each cuvée therefore, identifies a precise assemblage: one which is unique and unrepeatable, highlighted by a label giving the year of tirage. What is being previewed is Cuvée Zero 10, a mosaic of three different vintages, 2006, 2008 and 2009, bottled in 2010. The graphic packaging designed

by Studio Robilant Associati, is coherent with the new image of the Perlé range.

British racing green is the colour chosen to communicate elegance and to give an idea of naturalness. Original lettering, highlighting the craftsmanship which goes into a product requiring years of care, makes the label more modern and attractive. The Ferrari Perlé zero is the new challenge set by the Lunelli family accepted by the oenologists of Casa Ferrari with passion and enthusiasm, their aim: to take a Trentodoc able to express the essence of chardonnay from mountain vineyards in all its purity, to the best in the restaurant business.

roprio in occasione della stagione delle feste, Ferrari presenta il nuovo, ma soprattutto innovativo, Perlé zero: non un semplice pas dosé, ma un mosaico di millesimi che porta all’estremo la raffinata arte della creazione delle cuvée. Nasce, infatti, da un sapiente lavoro in cantina, dove i vini base di più annate vengono affinati con materiali diversi: l’acciaio, che esalta l’espressione del frutto e l’eleganza aromatica dello chardonnay, il legno, che conferisce struttura e ricchezza gustativa, e il vetro, che dona un ulteriore tocco di profondità ed espressività. Una volta imbottigliata, la cuvée affronta un lungo affinamento sui lieviti, di almeno sei anni, prima di venire sboccata senza l’aggiunta di zuccheri, ossia a dosaggio zero. Ogni cuvée identifica quindi un preciso assemblaggio, unico e irripetibile, e ciò viene valorizzato in etichetta con un richiamo all’anno del tirage. Quella presentata in anteprima è la Cuvée Zero 10, un mosaico di tre millesimi diversi, 2006, 2008 e 2009, messo in bottiglia nel 2010. La veste grafica, disegnata dallo Studio Robilant Associati, è coerente con la nuova immagine della linea Perlé. La cromia scelta è il verde inglese, che comunica eleganza e un’idea di naturalità. Un lettering originale, che sottolinea l’artigianalità di un prodotto che richiede anni di cura, rende l’etichetta più moderna e accattivante. Quella del Ferrari Perlé zero è una nuova sfida lanciata dalla famiglia Lunelli, che gli enologi di Casa Ferrari hanno raccolto con entusiasmo e passione, con l’obiettivo di portare nella migliore ristorazione un Trentodoc capace di esprimere l’essenza dello chardonnay di montagna in tutta la sua purezza.

Maserati M70 & Giovanni Soldini

T

hree years of clocking up the miles and records on the world’s oceans with Maserati VOR70 have been followed by a new triple-hulled sporting chapter. In 2016, Giovanni Soldini and his team are returning to the international racing scene aboard Maserati Multi70, a new-generation MOD70 ocean-going trimaran that flies across the waves at over 40 knots in an effortless marriage of leading-edge technology, blistering performance, reliability and safety.

Stretching 21.2 metres in length and 16.8 in the beam, Maserati Multi70 sports a 29-metre rotating wing mast and displaces 6.3 tons.

She also rises up out of the water on her foils and rudders with an unprecedented degree of stability. This reduces her wetted surface area which in turn boosts performance.

Designed by Van Peteghem Lauriot-Prévost (VPLP) and a former member of the Team Gitana racing stable, Maserati Multi70 has been optimised by French designer Guillaume Verdier for the new challenges that lie in store.

Maserati Multi70’s 2016 racing season spans two highlights: the Rolex Middle Sea Race (Malta, October 22) and the RORC Transatlantic Race (Lanzarote, the Canary Islands – Grenada, November 26).

In 2017 Maserati Multi70 arrived second in the ninth edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 Race, after a high speed match race with the American trimaran Phaedo3.

The last racing season event for 2017 saw Maserati Multi70 arriving third on the Transpac Race from Los Angeles to Honolulu, crossing the finish line on July 11th, 2017.

2018 starts with the new record from Hong Kong to London – the current record time is 41 days, 21 hours, 26 minutes and 34 seconds – in January.

Racing, training and time in the yard will all focus on shaking down and optimising the trimaran aboard which experimentation and technological development will go hand-inglove.

Giovanni Soldini and the Maserati Multi70 team have two stated ambitions for this new adventure: firstly, they will be chasing new sporting challenges to guarantee they continue to raise the technological and performance bar, and secondly, they’ll be using the futuristic 70’ to anticipate innovative solutions that will revolutionise the multihull world.

rom May to October when flying over Italy in an A330, you become suddenly aware of the year’s hot spots. Nearing the cobalt blue waters which bathe both islands and mainland, it is immediately apparent how busy the area is by observing the tiny wakes of the motor boats which cut through the blue, transforming it into trails of soft foam. However, there are places which have neither season nor particular period.

One of these is Portofino. The gulf is plied constantly by boats of all lengths, racing from Santa Margherita to the bay of Paraggi.

The sea welcomes them, the blue of its surface unequivocably traced with white strokes; and if that plane should land on the coast, something which, thank heavens, will never happen so that its natural beauty wisely protected continues to stay uncontaminated, there would not be a free square inch, because tourists and those who live there are all politely sharing their inch of Paradise; the beating heart of the Tigullian coast.

In prossimità di quelle macchie di mare azzurro cobalto, che bagnino le isole o la terraferma, ci si rende immediatamente conto di quanto l’area sia frequentata osservando le piccole scie delle barche a motore che fendono il blu e lo trasformano in traiettorie di soffice spuma. Ma ci sono luoghi che non hanno né stagione né periodo. Una di queste è Portofino. Il suo Golfo è costantemente battuto da barche di qualsiasi piede, che schizzano da Santa Margherita alla baia di Paraggi. Il mare le accoglie, con il suo blu che rimane inequivocabilmente tratteggiato da fenditure bianche. E se quell’aereo potesse atterrare sulla costa, cosa che grazie al cielo mai accadrà per preservarne una natura incontaminata e sapientemente protetta, non ci sarebbe un centimetro libero, perché turisti e abitanti dividono gentilmente il loro centimetro di paradiso, cuore pulsante del Tigullio.

Alongside the extraordinary chef, Italo Bassi - twenty-seven years’ experience at the Enoteca Pinchiorri where he won three Michelin stars this roving event united driving pleasure with the palate, during memorable tasting experiences and a fascinating Gourmet Academy including live performances, show cooking and thrilling suggestions and combinations. During the course of several months this wonderful convoy has criss-crossed the peninsula with stages held in the extraordinary setting of the Bologna hills at Palazzo di Varignana di Castel San Pietro Terme (BO), on towards the heart of Tuscany at the Relais Villa Curina in Castelnuovo Berardenga (SI) and arriving at the outskirts of Venice with the stage at Mogliano Veneto (TV) at Villa Condulmer, the impressive, historical building where Giuseppe Verdi was a guest whilst composing La Traviata. A delightful incursion into the glamourous world of fashion was presented during the stage at Villa Mazzucchelli in Civilerghe di Mazzano (BS) where guests admired an extraordinary private collection of over 5,000 couture garments. Engines, style and good taste; a passion for the good, beautiful or precious things that Italy offers and the desire to make them known to others.

throughout the world as the favourite water of the stars - conscious as they are of the right mix of beauty, health and wellbeing - up to mixology, or rather blended drinks, the art of creating multi sensorial cocktails able to enhance the flavours of any dish. Chefs and bartenders (or rather mixologists) to a man, are busy experimenting with often surprising combinations able to amaze even the most demanding palates. With a scientific approach and tailor-made results. The drinks of the new millennium are created as a perfect fit for the chef’s dishes and the desires of those who taste them, with different slants (changes or remakes if you like) actually becoming true signature drinks. A new taste frontier which uses quality products and the knowhow of those who shake and mix alongside the professionalism of those who cook. In this new golden age for the beverage world, raising the quality levels in raw ingredients is of prime importance. Salotti del Gusto, always at the forefront of research and the promotion of excellence around the world, has given us the discovery of Skinos Mastiha Spirit, the famous Greek liqueur exclusively imported to Italy by Convivio (www.convivio.biz). Cosmopolis’ (2 cl Skinos, 3 cl vodka, 2 cl cranberry juice, 1 cl lime juice) on the other hand, were proposed by Salotti del Gusto during hospitality at Andrea Bocelli’s concerts at the Teatro del Silenzio di Lajatico (PI), winning over all of the international guests, VIPs and celebrities. Skinos features at the top of the most important guides in the sector and has received prestigious awards from around the world, including certification for vegan, vegetarian or kosher diets. In other words, the mixology preview by Salotti del Gusto has captivated absolutely everyone. And so… experiments: drinks in gelatin, spheres which explode in the mouth, cocktails with unusual forms, in layers or even as powder mixed with unconventional ingredients and flavours such as leather or cigars. It is indispensable to start with quality ingredients, to know how to balance flavours and to reach that equilibrium in consistency which gives unique and refined drinks, enhancing and not overwhelming the flavour of the food. Sabrina Monte-Carlo Why has fur made a comeback in the interior decoration?

abrina Monte-Carlo specializes in bespoke and high-end indoor and outdoor decoration of villas, yachts and jets. Sabrina Monteleone-Oeino and her team are well aware of the emerging trends and latest collections, with over 21 years of experience.

“In the last 10 years, there’s been a transition from a more baroque, eclectic look – using hides and skins to cover for instance antique Louis armchairs – to a more minimalist yet genuine look that’s happening right now” says Sabrina Monteleone-Oeino.

The current winter 2017-2018 interior trend is all about natural and original textures, so fur or faux fur has come back in a big way and can be used to jazz up sofas, beds or armchairs. «Fur can be a taboo topic – however, there are many fantastic faux options available so you don’t have to use real animal skin to get the look» adds Sabrina «even if it’s not real fur, the texture and softness are nowadays extremely well imitated; it adds a touch of glamour and chic».

In her numerous showrooms located between Monaco and St Jean Cap Ferrat in South of France, one can find a plethora of fur cushions, throws and rugs. The beautifully soft and shiny Rabbit Chinchilla or Angora skins are mainly used for cushions, and so are Rabbit Zibeline and Fox. These refined furs, real or imitation, exist in a large range of colours and finish (example laced fur) to match any interior styles, be it classic, contemporary or design. Sabrina recommends using delicate, souple and light

hides - comparable to the ones used for cushions - for throws, at the end of a bed or on a daybed or sofa. «What better experience to curl up in a soft and warm fur plaid on a sofa or in bed and enjoy a good book?».

Cowhides and springbok hides are traditionally used on the floor, being shorthaired, thicker and thus more resistant but Sabrina likes using Iceland or Mongolian sheepskins on the floor, equally resistant.

With their wavy strands of wool up to 15 centimetres long any bedroom turns into an intimate and welcoming nest, any dining room becomes a fantasy and cloud-built fairy tale scenery, any armchair turns into a plush and inviting cocoon; the furniture seems to be floating above and around these long fluffy locks.

The hides don’t by themselves create the Nordic look; rather, they’re a luxurious addition to add warmth and visual interest to a purified setting. Of course, no need to say that the hides must be used sparingly, only in small touches to keep their luxurious and precious effect. Mixing exquisite fur with refined crystal decoration pieces or an elegant dark velvet sofa or even a bronze and black lacquered low table will create a subtle warm and cosy effect.

The fur/hide suppliers whom Sabrina works with are all meticulously checked acting against illegal hunting, bad treatment of animals or poaching. The quality of the products is also of high importance and no compromises can be made on this point either. As far as faux fur is concerned only

the best real and feel resembling items have been selected to work with, coming from the finest suppliers. The growing use of hides is probably linked to a greater awareness of ethical sourcing methods and the power of social media. “I think social media allows us to access looks and ideas from all over the world; it is a perfect modern tool which also gives me the opportunity to share my passion for decoration” says Sabrina, «I think that people want to live the way they want to dress. You can also note a comeback of fur and especially faux fur in the fashion industry.

Soon a new Sabrina Monte-Carlo showroom will open its doors in Monaco; another gracious temple of decoration where advise is always gladly given by a passionate team of experts.

Charta Smeralda (Emerald Charter) Another future for the oceans is still possible

H

ow long does a fish live for? And how long does it take for a plastic fork to disappear from the face of the earth? Or from the ocean?

Such a simple consideration forms a basis for different possible actions, for different possible futures.

The truth is that today, the seas are full of PET and the like. Eight million tons of rubbish each year, of which 1.2 million microplastics per square kilometer in the Mediterranean alone, suffocating wildlife, interacting with the cycle of plancton and the food chain (fish swallow it) causing damage not only to sea dwellers but also to ourselves. It is estimated that the fish:plastic ratio in 2050 will be 1:1 if behaviours don’t change.

However, it is still possible to act. The Costa Smeralda Yacht Club has demonstrated this with Princess Zahra Aga Khan’s One Ocean Forum project, presented at the Franco Parenti Theatre in Milan. On stage were: the American yachtsman Paul Cayard, the holder of the world record for free diving Davide Carrera, the explorer Paul Rose, the artist Anne de Carbuccia and other luminaries. The forum which is in partnership with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of Unesco, the sustainability lab of Sda Bocconi and has the support of the Ministry of Environment, Coni, Regione Sardegna, Ucina - Confindustria Nautica, Salone di Genova, Nautica italiana, Fondazione Riccardo Catella, Navi Perini and others, wanted to place its focus on best practice and on projects flying the flag of blue technology which can make a different future possible. «We are convinced that when we talk about taking care of the sea, more can be done and should be done”, said Princess Zahra. A concrete act has been produced by the forum: the Cahrta Smeralda (Emerald Charter), a document which is internationally recognized to promote awareness about the state of health of the oceans and about the measures to put in place to cure this huge malady. The document foresees a roadmap with concrete initiatives centering on three principal goals: to create an international network allowing for the exchange of information and initiatives on the sustainability of the oceans, to fine-tune a series of shared best practices and to promote awareness about themes relating to marine ecosystems. The charter commits and encourages individuals and organisations to intervene with practical actions. For example: by

using products which respect the environment for boat cleaning and maintenance, by avoiding the dumping of black and grey water, by preventing rubbish from finishing up in the water. Another theme, that of adopting as far as is possible, the use of renewable energy and biofuels. Those who sail can, furthermore, eliminate the use of disposable plastic in favour of more environmentally respectful solutions. Further to this, the work of beach cleaning is to be supported as are the actions of the designated associations.

By adopting the Charta Smeralda, the idea is that each person becomes an ambassador of the sea and of the message for its preservation. In particular, among young people, starting with the Yacht Club, who are in this sense the force of the Charta Smeralda, the privileged but not exclusive places where its principles may be broadcast (already 300 worldwide have agreed to participate).

The document is signed by Princess Zahra Aga Khan and the Yccs Comodore Riccardo Bonadeo. «Today we are making a commitment to the future”remarked the princess. A future which belongs to everyone.

Giacomo Loro Piana Giacomo, One Ocean Forum has highlighted, amongst other things, an emergency concerning our seas; particularly the Mediterranean with its very delicate balance. During your recent experience of sailing in The Mediterranean could you tell us whether you have come across the problem of microplastics and whether this is visible or even more dangerous because it is apparently invisible?

In the waters we usually sail, pollution is ever more visible. Hitherto it was talked about and now it can be seen. Nowadays it is easier for everyone to realise what is happening. Sailing along the Italian coastline we can’t as yet see islands of plastic, but there are plastic bags, bits of plastic and trails of black water…as regards sport fishing, there is increasingly less of it.

Beyond behaviour at sea which is ethical and demonstrates common sense, what should a boat owner do, in a concrete fashion, to hold back the everspreading phenomenon of microplastics?

Boat owners should, first of all, reduce their consumption. Simultaneously they should pick up the refuse and plastic they come across. If everyone picked up a plastic bag a day it would most certainly contribute to the safeguarding of the sea and its wildlife, not only directly with a small gesture but above all by setting an example and making those around them aware of the situation. Even on the beaches. I do it!

Giacomo, do you ever talk about this problem with your friends or with other boat owners? Do you discuss it freely amongst yourselves?

Of course, we are always talking about it. Even when we simply exchange information about where to find the cleanest waters. It is a “geographic map” which is gradually diminishing and continuously changing in the Mediterranean!

Un altro futuro degli oceani è ancora possibile

Q

uanto vive un pesce? E quanto ci mette, invece, una forchetta di plastica a scomparire dalla faccia della terra? O dall’oceano?

Una riflessione così semplice è alla base di possibili azioni diverse, di possibili futuri diversi.

La realtà è che già oggi i mari sono pieni di pet e simili. Otto milioni di tonnellate di rifiuti ogni anno, di cui 1,2 milioni di microplastiche per chilometro quadrato solo nel Mediterraneo, soffocano la fauna, interagendo con il ciclo del plancton e della catena alimentare (i pesci la inghiottono) causando danni non solo agli abitanti del mare, ma anche a noi stessi. Si stima che il rapporto plastica-pesci nel 2050 sarà di 1 a 1 se non si cambia atteggiamento. Ma agire ancora è possibile. Lo dimostra lo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda con il progetto One Ocean Forum, voluto dalla Principessa Zahra Aga Khan, presentato al Teatro Franco Parenti di Milano. Sul palco il velista americano Paul Cayard, il detentore del record mondiale di immersione libera Davide Carrera, l’esploratore Paul Rose, l’artista Anne de Carbuccia e altri big. Il forum, in partnership con la Commissione oceanografica intergovernativa dell’Unesco, Sda Bocconi sustainability lab e l’apporto di Ministero dell’ambiente, Coni, Regione Sardegna, Ucina - Confindustria nautica italiana, Salone di Genova, Nautica italiana, Fondazione Riccardo Catella, Navi Perini e altri, ha voluto porre il focus sulle best practice e sui progetti all’insegna della blue technology, che possano rendere possibile un futuro diverso. «Siamo convinti che in tema di tutela del mare si possa, si debba fare di più», ha detto la principessa Zahra. Atto concreto prodotto dal forum, la Charta Smeralda, un documento riconosciuto a livello internazionale per promuovere la consapevolezza sullo stato di salute degli oceani e sulle misure da mettere in campo per curare il grande malato. Il documento prevede una roadmap con iniziative concrete intorno a tre obiettivi principali: creare una rete internazionale per avviare uno scambio di informazioni e iniziative sulla sostenibilità degli oceani, mettere a punto una serie di best practice condivise e promuovere la consapevolezza sui temi riguardanti gli ecosistemi marini. La Charta impegna e incoraggia singoli e organizzazioni a intervenire con azioni concrete. Ad esempio con l’utilizzo di prodotti rispettosi per l’ambiente per la pulizia e la manutenzione delle barche, evitando lo scarico delle acque nere e grigie, impedendo che i rifiuti vadano in acqua. Altro tema, quello di adottare il più possibile energie rinnovabili e biocarburanti. Chi naviga può inoltre eliminare la plastica usa e getta per utilizzare soluzioni più rispettose per l’ambiente. Oltre a questo, vanno sostenute opere di pulizia delle spiagge e le azioni delle associazioni deputate.

Adottando la Charta Smeralda, questa è l’idea, ognuno si fa ambasciatore del mare e del messaggio per preservarlo. In particolare tra i giovani, partendo proprio dagli Yacht Club, che in questo senso sono la forza della Charta Smeralda, i luoghi privilegiati ma non esclusivi dove diffonderne i principi (già 300 in tutto il mondo hanno dato la disponibilità ad aderire).

Il documento è stato siglato dalla Principessa Zahara Aga Khan e dal Commodoro dello Yccs Riccardo Bonadeo. «Oggi prendiamo un impegno per il futuro», ha chiosato la Principessa. Un futuro che appartiene a tutti.

Giacomo Loro Piana Giacomo, One Ocean Forum ha messo in evidenza, tra le altre, un’emergenza che interessa i nostri mari e, in particolare, il mediterraneo che ha un equilibrio molto delicato. Ci puoi dire se, durante la tua recente esperienza di navigazione nel Mediterraneo, hai potuto riscontrare questo problema delle microplastiche, se esso è visibile o ancora più pericoloso perché apparentemente invisibile?

Negli specchi d’acqua che frequento l’inquinamento é sempre più visibile. Prima se ne parlava e, ora, si vede. Oggi é per tutti più facile rendersi conto di quello che sta accadendo. Navigando vicino alle coste italiane non si vedono ancora isole di plastica ma sacchetti, frammenti di plastica e strisce di acqua nera… Parlando poi di pesca sportiva, si pesca sempre meno.

Al di là di un atteggiamento in mare etico e di buon senso, cosa concretamente può e deve fare un armatore per arginare questo dilagante fenomeno delle microplastiche?

Gli armatori devono innanzitutto limitare i consumi. Parallelamente dovrebbero raccogliere dal mare rifiuti e plastiche in cui si imbattono. Se ognuno raccogliesse un sacchetto al giorno, contribuirebbe certamente alla salvaguardia del mare e della sua fauna non solo direttamente, con un piccolo gesto, ma soprattutto dando l’esempio e sensibilizzando così chi ci sta intorno. Anche sulle spiagge. Io lo faccio.

Giacomo, le capita di parlare di questo problema con i tuoi amici o con altri armatori? C’è tra voi un confronto spontaneo?

Certo, se ne parla sempre. Anche quando ci scambiamo informazioni su dove trovare l’acqua pulita. Una geografia purtroppo sempre più ridotta e in continuo cambiamento nel Mediterraneo.

It is sometimes surprising to hear them describe a sculpture or an installation with the same passion and enthusiasm they use when talking about the articles they produce themselves; but don’t let yourself be taken in by their charm…To measure oneself successfully in a complex context like that of the global market, one must be both well-prepared and competitive, the Guidis – true sportsmen in their private lives – are exactly that!

Scarichi, filtri e valvole fanno bella mostra di sé sulla scrivania di Bruno Guidi, come preziosi fermacarte che non sfigurerebbero in qualità di oggetti di arredo nell’ufficio di un avvocato di Manhattan o sulla libreria di un banchiere della City. Bruno, Daniele e Alessandro sono fanatici della qualità ma anche cultori della bellezza che nell’arte, nella scultura, trova una sponda accogliente. Ecco dunque la collaborazione con un network di artisti come: Jill Mathis, Chris Gllmour, Marco Lodola, Alessandro Ciffo, Valerio Tedeschi, Ada Negri, Enrica Pastore; oltre a Michelangelo Pistoletto ed Elizabeth Aro. Imprenditori moderni, i Guidi sono anche persone affascinanti. È sorprendente talvolta sentirli illustrare una scultura, un’installazione, con la stessa passione ed entusiasmo con le quali parlano dei modelli di loro produzione. Ma non fatevi ingannare dal loro charme... per misurarsi con successo in un contesto complicato come é oggi il mercato globale, occorre essere preparati e competitivi e i Guidi, veri sportivi nella vita privata, lo sono. La loro incessante ricerca dell’eccellenza e gli investimenti tecnologici sono riconosciuti dai più importanti cantieri al mondo che, a loro volta, devono poter garantire a esigenti e aggiornati armatori il massimo comfort, reso possibile solo dalla qualità di componenti testati e certificati. s it possible to unite the pleasures of fine dining and being surrounded by Art? The answer is yes!

Giacomo Bulleri was born in 1925 and is known simply as GIACOMO. In Milan his name is synonymous with authentic fine dining; of “bien vivre”. Faced with a secularized world which seeks to astonish with special effects and bombastic statements, Giacomo has always proposed a more authentic approach, starting from quality ingredients. A natural choice for this charmingly charismatic, lean and understated man; founder not only of a successful group but also of the “Giacomo” style. Throughout the years his vision has excelled itself. In fact, since 1958 when together with his family he opened Ristorante da Giacomo, the Gruppo Giacomo has attained many goals, like medals in a record of achievements within the panorama of Milanese catering: Giacomo Bistrot, la Rosticceria, la Pasticceria, Giacomo Arengario e Giacomo Caffè Palazzo Reale.

What is striking is that everything that has been created with great care and attention seems however so natural. But after all, true elegance is to not to draw attention to oneself...

The common thread linking all of these addresses is surprisingly Art and a taste for objects that work harmoniously together, which makes them all unique. The Milanese know very well that at Giacomo they will find a choice that always satisfies their expectations.

This renown – earned in the field as it were – has attracted guests of the calibre of Henry Kissinger, John John Kennedy, Michelle Obama and former American Secretary of State, John Kerry. And also illustrious names from the worlds of finance and fashion; all of them looking for style and quality alongside authenticity! From the start, Giacomo Bulleri

has entrusted the creation of his restaurants to masters of interior design: one such was Renzo Mongiardino with whom he immediately established a relationship based on complicity and mutual esteem. Mongiardino and his student Roberto Peregalli imagined a fin-desiècle atmosphere recalling the restaurants in Lombardy from the beginning of the 1900s. Peragalli and Laura Sartori Rimini, are Mongiardino’s “ successors” and are the authors of the restaurants belonging to the group. Each location is devised to evoke the architectural period of its context, such as Giacomo Arengario in the Museo del ‘900. An homage to the Art Déco period. Lacquer from the 30s, an outside area as well as the beautiful bar housed in the huge loggia overlooking the Piazza del Duomo, is a glass and iron structure which offers an incomparable and breathtaking view. This also applies to Giacomo Caffè in the Palazzo Reale, this historical location is a venue for exhibitions bringing Art lovers and tourists from around the world. Where might Giacomo have made landfall if not Pietrasanta in Versilia?

Pietrasanta the town of artists is also a place of international importance for the working of bronze and marble. It is a magical place with a wealth of art galleries and important exhibitions all year round. A location chosen

by Fernando Botero, Igor Mitoraj and Arnaldo Pomodoro among others, who have placed their works in the town to be admired by everyone. So, here in June, in the beating heart of this context, Giacomo will open his next prestigious restaurant in the centre of town in a building dating from 1500 which offers a garden created at the end of the 1800s.

The rooms converted from the building’s former stables will most certainly be the ideal scene and setting not only to savour a primarily fish-based menu, but also in true Giacomo style to admire artists and art works...Easily reached from across Versilia and Liguria the “next Giacomo” offers an alternative to a day at sea in the pleasant cool of a summer evening or an offseason pause among the art galleries.

Di fronte a un mondo “secolarizzato” che sceglie di stupire con effetti speciali, dichiarazioni roboanti, Giacomo, da sempre propone un approccio più autentico, che parte da ingredienti di qualità. Una scelta naturale per quest’uomo asciutto e sobrio, affascinante e carismatico. Il capostipite non soltanto di un Gruppo di successo ma dello stile “Giacomo “. La sua visione, negli anni, ha superato se stesso. Una notorietà guadagnata sul campo che ha portato da Giacomo personaggi di rango come Henry Kissinger, John John Kennedy, Michelle Obama e John Kerry, l’ex Segretario si Stato USA. Ma anche importanti personaggi del mondo della Finanza e della Moda, proprio alla ricerca dì stile, qualità e, insieme, autenticità! Giacomo Bulleri, fin da subito, si è affidato per la realizzazione dei suoi ristoranti a Maestri dell’interior, come Renzo Mongiardino, con il quale si è instaurato immediatamente un rapporto di stima e complicità. Mongiardino e il suo allievo Roberto Peregalli hanno ideato un ambiente fin-de-siècle che rievoca i ristoranti Lombardi dei primi anni del ‘900. Peregalli, insieme con Laura Sartori Rimini, “eredi” di Mongiardino, sono gli autori dei ristoranti del Gruppo. Ogni luogo studiato per evocare il periodo architettonico nel contesto nel quale si inserisce, come Giacomo Arengario: all’interno del Museo del ‘900. Un omaggio al periodo Decó. La lacca anni ‘30, il Dehors oltre al bellissimo bar, ospitato nella grande Loggia affacciata su Piazza del Duomo, struttura di ferro e vetro che offre una vista incomparabile e mozzafiato.

E come Giacomo Caffè, nel Palazzo Reale, luogo storico e sede di Mostre che richiamano appassionati di Arte e turisti da tutto il mondo. Dove altro avrebbe potuto approdare Giacomo, se non a Pietrasanta, in Versilia? Pietrasanta, città degli artisti e luogo di importanza internazionale anche per la lavorazione del marmo e del bronzo. Luogo magico e ricco di Gallerie d’Arte. Sede di importanti Mostre lungo tutto l’arco dell’anno. Sito d’elezione per Fernando Botero, Igor Mitoraj e Arnaldo Pomodoro, tra gli altri.

Con le loro opere posizionate nella città per essere ammirate da tutti. Ecco, qui Giacomo, nel cuore pulsante di questo contesto, aprirà il prossimo mese di giugno in un palazzo del ‘500 in centro cittá il suo nuovo, prestigioso ristorante che potrà avvalersi anche di un giardino fine ‘800. Le sue sale, ricavate da scuderie del Palazzo saranno certamente cornice e palcoscenico ideali non soltanto per gustare un menu prevalentemente a base di pesce, ma anche per ammirare, nello stile Giacomo, artisti e opere d’Arte... raggiungibile facilmente da tutta la Versilia e dalla Liguria, il “prossimo Giacomo” si proporrá come alternativa alle giornate di mare, nella piacevole frescura di una serata estiva o come tappa fuori stagione tra le Gallerie d’Arte.

The Voice of the sea

e want to talk about the sea through the voice of one of the most famous exponents of the Italian vocal tradition, Andrea Bocelli, musician, singer and above all an artist with deep feelings. He has always been committed to the global diffusion of messages of positivity, hope and perseverance and supports social causes in the areas of scientific research, the fight against hunger and universal primary education. He is recognised everywhere as a fellow citizen: a voice which gives a voice to the world.

You are the true standardbearer for Italy through the world. How much of your time does your work take up and how much are you able to dedicate to your passions?

My work has to do with my passion: I have been very privileged in being able to cultivate my greatest passion to the point where it has become my profession. My professional diary is as thrilling as it is full. Music is my daily bread, a need, a way – as I often say – to give lightness to life. I am in a position in which I am unable to separate work from passion. I find life in its entirety to be thrilling, as I do any human expression which is turned towards beauty. We sing and celebrate the beauty which we are able to cultivate within ourselves every day. If an artist wants to move listeners, there must be something to tell through song. This something is the amalgam of experience, study, research and the riches we acquire through living. So, in that sense, it is invaluable to have many passions and many interests. Personally, I love sailing, swimming and horse riding, I

am a football and boxing fan, I am a prolific reader, I love playing any musical instrument I have to hand, I like to test myself by writing lyrics and playing chess.

Does the sea represent one of these passions? Do you have a memory which especially links you to this element?

The sea is one of those paradises where it is easier to consolidate the idea that life is an extraordinary gift and that it would be sacrilege to waste even a second of it. The sea is a place of freedom, it is the guardian of marvels and mysteries which thrill and push man to dare and to live out unforgettable experiences. Even though I was born in the countryside, the sea features in my memories right from an early age. During the summer holidays my father would organize short trips in a dinghy for my brother and myself.

I remember our enthusiasm as we carried the engine from the beach resort down to the shore. Once we had rowed past the buoys, we would start the engine ready for short trips which however, always seemed to me to be great adventures.

What do you enjoy most about sailing or about being at sea?

Being at sea for me means finding the ideal dimension to recharge both body and mind.

At sea I am able to rest, just as I am able to deal with long sessions of research of a musical score: in the total silence of the sea to listen, just as to study music, is particularly worthwhile and evocative.

Do your family share this adventure with you?

Veronica loves the sea as I do and together we have passed on this love to our children. Our eldest son obtained his boating license a while ago and it so happens that he is our captain.

We have spent unforgettable moments on a boat together as a family. The one I currently own has a layout which allows us a pleasant and intimate life on board whilst respecting each other’s privacy.

There are ‘sustainable boats’ which are less polluting, ‘zero’ impact that are neither noisy nor polluting. What are your thoughts?

I am afraid I am not qualified for either analysis or constructive thoughts about this. I do think however, that boats that are the result of human ingenuity should be increasingly designed with respect for the surrounding environment. Technology is evolving fast so I am reasonably optimistic about the possibility of designing boats which are increasingly ‘sustainable’.

Your ideal boat?

Safe, welcoming and silent. It should guarantee comfort without overreaching into luxury, into ostentation as an end unto itself.

It should be cozy, able to carry us safely, guarding our sleep and family intimacy in complete serenity; lastly, it should adopt both technical and logistical solutions which are practical and intelligent, with full respect for the sea and its ecosystem.

La voce del mare

bbiamo voluto raccontare il mare attraverso la voce di uno dei più famosi testimonial della tradizione vocale italiana, Andrea Bocelli, musicista, cantante, ma soprattutto artista con una profonda sensibilità. Da sempre impegnato nella diffusione globale di messaggi quali positività, speranza, perseveranza e nel sostenere cause sociali in ambito di ricerca scientifica, lotta alla povertà, universalità dell’educazione primaria, viene percepito, ovunque, come concittadino: voce che dà voce al mondo. È il vero testimonial dell’Italia nel mondo. Quanto la impegna il suo lavoro e quanto riesce a dedicarsi alle sue passioni?

Il mio lavoro pertiene la mia passione: ho avuto il grande privilegio di poter coltivare la mia più grande passione al punto di farla diventare la mia professione. L’agenda professionale mi impegna molto, ma altrettanto mi appassiona. La musica è il mio pane quotidiano, è un bisogno, è – come dico sovente – un modo per dare leggerezza alla vita. Sono dunque nella condizione di non disgiungere il lavoro dalla passione. È la vita nella sua interezza ad appassionarmi, così come ogni espressione umana che sia volta alla bellezza. Si canta e si celebra la bellezza che riusciamo a coltivare ogni giorno, dentro di noi. Se un artista vuole emozionare chi ascolta, deve avere qualcosa da raccontare attraverso il canto. Questo qualcosa è l’insieme di esperienze, studi, approfondimenti, è la ricchezza che si acquisisce vivendo. Anche in tal senso, è prezioso avere tante passioni, tanti interessi. Personalmente amo andare in barca, nuotare, cavalcare, sono un tifoso di calcio ma anche di boxe, sono un forte lettore, mi piace suonare qualunque strumento musicale io abbia per le mani, mi piace cimentarmi nella scrittura di versi e nel gioco degli scacchi.

Il mare rappresenta una di queste passioni? Ha un ricordo che la lega particolarmente a questo elemento?

Il mare è uno di quei paradisi nei quali è più facile consolidare l’idea che la vita sia un dono straordinario di cui è sacrilego sprecare anche un solo istante. Il mare è luogo di libertà, è custode di meraviglie e misteri che appassionano l’uomo e lo spingono a osare e a vivere esperienze indimenticabili. Nonostante sia nato in campagna, il mare è oggetto di ricordi fin dalla mia prima infanzia... Nel corso delle vacanze estive, mio padre organizzava brevi escursioni in gommone che coinvolgevano me e mio fratello. Ricordo il nostro entusiasmo, nel trasportare il motore dalla cabina dello stabilimento balneare alla battigia. Dopo aver oltrepassato a remi le boe, avviavamo il

motore, pronti per brevi gite che a me però parevano sempre grandi avventure.

Cosa le piace di più della navigazione o dell’andar per mare?

Significa rintracciare la dimensione ideale per ritemprarmi, nel corpo e nello spirito. In mare riesco a riposarmi, così come ad affrontare lunghe sessioni di approfondimento di una partitura: nel silenzio assoluto del mare, l’ascolto così come lo studio della musica è particolarmente fruttuoso e suggestivo.

La sua famiglia la segue in questa avventura?

Veronica adora il mare quanto me e insieme siamo riusciti a trasmettere questo amore ai nostri figli. Il primogenito tempo fa ha preso la patente nautica: capita dunque che sia lui, il nostro capitano.

Con la famiglia abbiamo trascorso momenti indimenticabili in barca. Quella che possiedo attualmente, per sua conformazione, permette di coabitare nel piacere della vicinanza e della confidenza, ma parimenti nel rispetto della privacy di ognuno.

Ci sono barche sostenibili, a impatto zero, non rumorose e non inquinanti. Cosa ne pensa?

Temo di non avere le competenze per una disamina o per una riflessione costruttiva a riguardo. Penso però che le imbarcazioni, frutto dell’ingegno umano, debbano essere concepite sempre di più nel rispetto per l’ambiente circostante. La tecnologia si evolve velocemente, dunque sulla possibilità di realizzare barche sempre più sostenibili sono ragionevolmente ottimista.

La sua barca ideale?

Sicura, accogliente, silenziosa. Deve garantire confort ma senza sfociare nel lusso, nello sfarzo fine a se stesso. Deve essere un’imbarcazione ospitale, che sia in grado di accompagnarci in sicurezza, custodendo i nostri sonni e l’intimità familiare in totale serenità; deve infine adottare soluzioni sia tecniche sia logistiche pratiche ed intelligenti, nel pieno rispetto del mare e dell’ecosistema.
