A good story moves us. And if it reaches enough people, it has the power to become a movement.

STORIES

TO LIGHT

The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to presenting stories that convey the richness and diversity of Asian American experiences to the broadest audience possible. We do this by funding, producing, distributing and exhibiting works in film, television and digital media.

Founded in a time of significant social, political, and cultural change in 1980, our aim then was to create media that reflected the histories and experiences of Asian Americans, which otherwise consisted of ugly and simplistic stereotypes. Continuing in that work, CAAM’s 41-year legacy is built on impactful storytelling, community connections, and a mission to promote authentic representation of Asian Americans in public media and beyond.

Today, stories that amplify the diversity of Asian Americans are ever more vital to combat hate, heal communities, and build an inclusive future.

AAPI’S

ARE... GROWING

Amid the rise of anti-Asian hate and undeniable growth of the Asian American and Pacific Islander population across the US, nuanced and accurate portrayals of the AAPI community are ever more vital.

Support of AAPI stories is key in driving meaningful cultural change.

There are 23.1 million AAPI’s living in the U.S.-the fastest growing demographic in the nation-, and a projected buying power of $1.3 trillion in 2022.1

CONNECTING

82% of AAPI’s subscribe to at least one streaming service, 10% higher than the total population average, and are tuning in for diverse content.1

84% of AAPI’s are on social media daily (versus 75% total population).1

ENGAGING HURTING

Nationally, 5% more AAPI voters cast a ballot than voted in the entirety of the 2016 election. Further, in every single battleground state, the AAPI turnout surged (relative to 2016) by more than any other group. 2 In 2021, 10.2% of Asian American adults and 10% of NHPI adults have experienced hate crimes or incidents, as opposed to the national average of 5.8%.3
