Public Speaking and other stuff...

How, like, do you do this?

It’s ya boi… Miguel Rodriguez

What are you working on?

● Let’s have a discussion!

○ What are you working on?

○ What are your goals?

○ What’s exciting?

○ What’s scary?

○ Who’s doing what, when, how?

How do you talk to a big and varied group of people? And, keep em’ interested?

Miguel’s toolbox:

Narrative // Storytelling Personal Anecdotes Passion Games // Activities

Quick Game/Break

What if things go wrong (and, trust me, they will)?

Group: lean on each other

○ Designated roles?

○ Back-ups?

○ Lesson plan(s)?

○ Ask the audience for help!

○ Activities/quick break

Alone: ask for help!

○ Admitting you’re nervous, it’s okay! You are learning as well!

○ Take some deep breaths, and remind yourself that you’re an expert at this!

○ Cue cards // lesson plan(s) // prepared speech

○ Asking someone else to take over

○ Find something or someone to focus on to collect your thoughts

How do you guide people? Instructions?

1. Firm: say what you mean with purpose and strength. Don’t go over the top, though! Loooooo000ooL

2. Direct: Look at folks, make eye contact, and let them know you’re talking to them

3. Concise: the shorter and less complicated, the better. How do you summarize a book?

4. Clear: Balance the amount of information you’re giving. Is it absolutely necessary? Can you clarify or give more details later?

5. Trust: this is especially difficult with strangers. However, it can be done. Do ya’ll trust me? Ayyyy lmao.
