2023 ANNUAL REPORT
DEAR LA SALLE STUDENTS, FAMILIES, ALUMNI, AND DONORS,
The last year has been an exciting one for La Salle High School. We continued to build Men for Tomorrow, Brothers for Life through events and activities centered around our five pillars of Leadership, Scholarship, Faith, Service, and Community. You can read more about these growth opportunities and achievements throughout this Annual Report. Our class of 2023 consisted of 112 graduates who were accepted to 88 colleges and earned more than $16 million in scholarships. Learn more later in this report.
I’m also proud to say that we have a balanced budget and have nearly doubled our endowment over the past five years. Thank you to our donors for your unwavering support of our current and future students, and your dedication to the Lasallian tradition to guide young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ.
In May, La Salle High School moved to a President + Principal model, which is designed to help our organization effectively navigate the evolving needs of the school and community, focusing on growth and sustainability. Our team is as strong as ever. Our administrative team and board are made up almost entirely of alumni and parents who wholeheartedly believe in the Catholic mission of preparing young men to achieve their full potential in mind, body and spirit.
I look forward to continuing the momentum gained throughout the 2022-2023 school year as we gear up to welcome our class of 2027 and for our annual shadow and admissions period. Additionally, in the coming months, together, we will begin developing a strategic plan to lead us into the future. I can’t wait to see what’s next for La Salle High School. Go Lancers!
Live, Jesus, in our hearts…Forever!
PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
LA SALLE COMMUNITY,
I am privileged to have recently joined the La Salle team as principal and look forward to working alongside the board, President Mike Overbey and our families and community members to help grow the minds and call to service of our current and future Lasallians.
As an alumnus, and as a parent of alumni, I know and wholeheartedly understand and appreciate the impact the La Salle brotherhood can have on a student’s longterm success. We will maintain our foucs on work that contributes to our young men making meaningful connections and developing the core characteristics of our Catholic Christian identity.
Moving forward, I am dedicated to building on the strong foundation that has been set for La Salle High School. Blessings.
Lou Eichhold ‘93 Principal

Scholars Institute
The Lasallian Scholars Institute (LSI) was established in 2010 and provides experiential learning opportunities for the young men of La Salle High School.
To date, there are more than 200 LSI alumni who have taken the program’s core values of Create, Connect and Achieve to prestigious colleges and universities and various career fields across the country. Former scholars are:

• Attending federal service academies
Truck Full of Love
Students hosted the third annual Truck Full of Love clothing drive this spring. The philanthropic effort was started during the pandemic by students from the class of 2022 as a way for them to continue to serve. The drive is held in partnership with Matthew 25: Ministries. With help from the Lancer community, 2 ½ semitrailers were filled!
Performing Arts
La Salle made several building updates this summer to enhance its arts programs and allow for further growth. Our Band Director, Mr. Jonah Hubauer, our Vocal Ensemble Director, Mrs. Cindy Webb, and our Performing Arts Director, Mrs. Christmas Kitko, look forward to making meaningful connections with students on and off the stage.
Freshmen in the Lasallian Scholars Institute participate in a 3-week experience at GE Aerospace, getting a glimpse at the aircraft engines that power flight across the globe.
Clubs Indoor track team had six state qualifiers, including Koy Beasley and the 4x100-meter team of Timiko Jackson, BJ Ross, Donivan Stinson and Walter Berry 500+ 6
Our Big Brothers Club is one group our students can join. They serve underprivileged people in the community.
CAMPUS MINISTRY, MISSION AND FORMATION
Thanks to our founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, God-centered relationships are at the heart of a Lasallian education and are integral to developing Men for Tomorrow and Brothers for Life. Over the past year, our young men have participated in several mission trips and other faith-based activities.
MISSION TRIPS: TOUCHING HEARTS, CHANGING LIVES
Lasallian Youth Service Immersion Trips (LYSIT) are an important part of our ministry, mission and formation. This summer, 13 students and two adult leaders partnered with the Mennonite Central Committee and its nonprofit, Sharing With Appalachian People (SWAP), to provide safe, warm and dry homes to residents of Pike County, Kentucky. The group also spent time connecting each day over meals and through prayer. Projects included:
DEMOLISHING DAMAGED PORCHES AND INSTALLING NEW ONES REPLACING WINDOWS
INSULATING WALLS INSTALLING SINKS MAKING PLUMBING UPGRADES
RESTORING DRYWALL AND FLOORING
KAIROS LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES GROWING
Kairos is a Greek word meaning “God’s time” and is an important part of the Lasallian experience. Each year, all juniors have a chance to have a 3-day, 2-night encounter with Jesus during a special retreat.
Over the last few years, La Salle has seen a surge in student applicants for Kairos leadership positions. As a result of this and the social distancing requirements during COVID-19, we also now offer senior Kairos activities, including Wilderness, Called to Serve and March for Life retreats.
See the lasting impact Kairos had on one of our alumni who is currently discerning a call to the priesthood below.
Another group of students participated in the annual Lasallian Youth Assembly in Memphis, Tennessee. As part of the assembly, the students and staff leaders lived at Christian Brothers University and partnered with Christian Brothers High School and other local nonprofits to serve those in need. They also spent time daily in prayer, community and recreation and had the opportunity to visit cultural museums in the area.
WORDS CANNOT COME CLOSE TO EXPRESSING HOW GRATEFUL I AM THAT GOD LED ME TO LA SALLE IN TERMS OF MY FAITH JOURNEY. BETWEEN THE FAITH TEACHINGS THAT I RECEIVED AT ST. ANTONINUS AND LA SALLE, MY FOUNDATION WAS MORE THAN ROCK SOLID COMING INTO THE UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA WHERE I AM CURRENTLY IN THE ROTC PROGRAM. FOR THAT, I SAY THANK YOU!

112 Lancers donned their cap and gown in May and are moving into their next phase of life as Men for Tomorrow, Brothers for Life. Here is a look at some of the accomplishments of our latest group of alumni.

ENDOWMENT
An endowment is an aggregate of assets La Salle High School invested through our partnership with Fifth Third Bank to support our educational mission in perpetuity. Approximately 4% of the funds are withdrawn each year to support tuition assistance. Unlike a checking account, a strong endowment provides stability for La Salle High School into the future.

Serving in the United States military is the ultimate call to service, which is one of La Salle High School’s five pillars. We are proud to support our veterans through an annual Veteran Appreciation Day, a Veteran Monument, and Veteran Memorial Scholarship. Additionally, the Ohio Department of Education renewed La Salle High School’s designation as a Purple Star School in 2022. Purple Star Schools are those that show a major commitment to our nation’s military by supporting its military students and families.

SCHOLARSHIP SPOTLIGHT
In partnership with fellow alumni and friends, Jerry ‘80 and Julie Keller established the Kevin Keller ‘06 Scholarship in honor of their son who died in 2013. Nine students have or are currently the recipient of the scholarship, which is awarded to students based on service work and financial need.
Jerry and Julie take a special interest in Kevin Keller Scholarship winners, requesting to meet them, giving them birthday gifts each year, attending as many of the young men’s extra and cocurricular activities as possible, and visiting them at their places of work or taking them to lunch or dinner.
Kevin was a man of service and the Kellers hope his legacy lives on through his scholarship. “We do this because it helps us heal,” said Julie. In true La Salle fashion, what the Kellers give has been returned to them tenfold. The couple is welcomed at events with hugs from scholarship recipients, they have received a championship football signed by the team, and routinely receive Christmas cards and invitations to graduation parties.

LIVING THE LANCER LEGACY
Michael Metz ‘08 has been a Lancer for as long as he can remember. His three brothers, who are 10, 12 and 15 years older than him, all attended La Salle High School. His father, who had to retire early due to health issues, was determined to keep the Lancer legacy alive for all of his sons, so he ran the concession stand and assisted with the track and field team so his boys could continue attending.
Michael said his years at La Salle playing football, wrestling, serving as a Kairos leader, and being named prom king, were some of the best years of his life. Upon graduating, he felt Called to Serve, despite not knowing in exactly what capacity. He landed a job with Catholic Residential Services working with those with developmental disabilities in their homes, and fell in love with the field.
Fast forward a few years, during which time Michael paused his postsecondary education at Thomas More University while he and his wife started their family, and he worked for Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services as a Behavior Support Specialist, and his true calling finally came into perspective and became a reality. When he returned to college,
HERITAGE SOCIETY ESTABLISHED
The Lasallian Heritage Society was established to recognize a growing number of alumni, parents and friends of the school who have provided for La Salle in their estate plan to help maintain the longterm financial viability of the school.
Options to provide a charitable gift or bequest to La Salle include naming “La Salle High School” as a beneficiary of your:
• Life Insurance Policy
• Individual Retirement Account (IRA)
• Charitable Trust
• Last Will and Testament
• Revocable Trust Agreement
Along with making monetary gifts, these options offer an opportunity to give back to La Salle while providing you with potential income and/ or estate tax advantages.
Remember La Salle when you meet with your financial advisor or tax attorney when you conduct your year-end reviews.
Please let us know if you have provided for La Salle in your estate planning by contacting Director of Advancement Mike Wiesman ‘02, at 513-741-2287.
WHAT?
he was prompted to develop a business plan during his final semester. His plan centered around what he believed a day program for those with developmental disabilities should and could look like. He presented the plan to the parents of someone he served for several years and they generously offered him $20,000 to get his dream off the ground.
He and his wife developed a name for the business - Metzcor - that is a combination of their family name with the cor representing the core of who they are, which is faith, family and service. They were certified through the state in 2016 and officially opened their doors in a 2,500-square-foot property off Crookshank Road in 2017. At the time, the company had just four employees. Today, they have 55 staff, serve 167 individuals, and are currently working on renovating the former Mercy Hospital campus to be a first-of-its-kind community/business campus that gives more opportunities to the individuals they serve and the surrounding community.
Metzcor will soon feature a Cor Business Group, a conglomeration of businesses that provide good-paying hourly wage jobs to individuals with exceptionalities, high-end apartments, a Humanitarian Program that packages and delivers food to underprivileged families, and an event center.

LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR
LANCER LEGEND HONORED AT BOB KRUEGER INVITATIONAL
Tom Doerger ‘81 spent 30 years as a valued educator, counselor, mentor, coach, colleague, and friend to the La Salle community. Since his passing in December 2022, his family has established the Tom Doerger Memorial Scholarship, and he was named the 2023 honoree of the Bob Krueger Invitational.
He attended Notre Dame University where he was an offensive lineman before returning to his alma mater in 1985. He taught sociology, psychology, religion and physical education, in addition to serving as dean of students, attendance officer, and guidance counselor. He also coached basketball, track, and of course, football. He was integral to the Lancer’s journey to the state championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016. He always made it his mission to make a difference in young men’s lives through shaping stronger minds, bodies and spirits. Tom is greatly missed, but his legacy lives on.
I CHOSE LA SALLE BASED ON THE LEGACY THAT MY FAMILY HAS HERE AND THE BROTHERHOOD THAT LA SALLE HAS. BEING PART OF A LEGACY FAMILY AT LA SALLE IS SOMETHING SPECIAL TO ME. BEING ABLE TO WALK THE SAME HALLS THAT MY GRANDPA AND DAD DID MAKES ME WANT TO BE THE BEST VERSION OF MYSELF TO CONTINUE THE LEGACY OUR FAMILY HAS AT LA SALLE. I ALSO GET TO WALK THE HALLS WITH MY YOUNGER BROTHER WHICH IS TRULY SPECIAL AND MAKES ME VERY PROUD TO BE A PART OF THE LASALLIAN TRADITION.

CAREER DAY PRESENTATION LEADS TO CAREER IN INDUSTRY FOR LA SALLE ALUMNUS
John Weissmann ‘93 has a 15-minute experience at La Salle as part of Career Day to thank for his more than 25+ year career in the funeral business. He said to this day, he still doesn’t know what made him want to attend that particular Career Day session, but the La Salle brotherhood appears throughout his story.
It just so happens that the expert for that panel was Weissmann’s new neighbor and a La Salle grad. The next thing he knew, he was going to mortuary school, and today is part owner of Neidhard Minges Funeral Home alongside two other La Salle alumni, Mark ‘74 and Pete Minges ‘77, and Pete’s daughter, Elyse Minges. His daughter also plans to enter the field, keeping the tradition alive.
The concept of a brotherhood (and sisterhood in this case) isn’t far-fetched for Weissmann in other areas of life either. He has been the chairman of the Donauschwaben Oktoberfest since 2001. The society was born from several first-generation Germans, including his grandparents, and parents settling in the Cincinnati area and wanting to keep the traditions from their home country alive.
“THE OVERALL LA SALLE EXPERIENCE SHAPED EVERYTHING I’VE BECOME.
THE SCHOOL KEPT ME ON THE RIGHT TRACK SPIRITUALLY AND ACADEMICALLY, AND I’VE BEEN FORTUNATE TO CROSS PATHS WITH A LOT OF OTHER LA SALLE GRADS AND FRIENDS THROUGHOUT MY LIFE.”
Leroy Hodge ‘24
WALKING THROUGH LA SALLE’S DOORS EVERY DAY IS LIKE WALKING INTO MY HOME. THE BROTHERHOOD IS UNLIKE ANY OTHER PLACE AND THE STAFF ARE SO WELCOMING. IT REALLY IS A PLACE THAT GIVES YOU EVERY POSSIBILITY TO SUCCEED.
