In 2020, the amount was 465,896.47 euros, which means, according to the Executive, that over the last five years the figure has risen by 206.3%. MIJAS LOCAL POLICE FORCE TO THE Commitment
“We are talking about the largest investment in the Local Police in the last five years, which is the result of our commitment
to this security force. Just for uniforms, 150,000 euros will be allocated, which gives an idea of the figures we are talking about”,
explained the mayoress. For his part, the councillor for the Local Police stressed that this investment “reflects a serious, forward-thinking approach to governance, rather than a patchwork solution”. He emphasised that “the safety of Mijas residents demands well-equipped officers, with modern and effective resources, and it had been far too long since the force was properly provided for”.
Transparency
“I ask the residents for their trust, because We are on the path to achieving the order that Mijas deserves. For many years, Mijas operated in a way that was not right. Moreover, we must be transparent, and with this budget, we are being transparent”, added the mayoress. Councillor Cuevas Dawson added that, “for this government team, our priority is the safety of all Mijas residents,

Tourism brings charity music TO THE HEART OF MIJAS PUEBLO WITH THE BLUES NIGHT LINE-UP
The Town Hall highlights that these concerts encourage tourists to stay longer and offer residents of Mijas an alternative leisure option
Editorial Department / Design: C.M.
The Tourism Department of the Mijas Town Hall has announced the first major concert of summer 2025, the much-anticipated Blues Night, which will take place on Saturday 12th of July at 22 hours at the Miguel González Berral Municipal Auditorium in Mijas Pueblo. The event will be headlined by the Granada Blues Band, joined by artists such as C. T. Powell & Bluedays and Mama Paula Blues Band.
The councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez (Vox), expli-
có explained that this concert marks the start of the summer events season: “Summer is here and with it comes a very exciting musical programme. The opening concert will feature a legendary band celebrating 40 years on stage, and over the coming weeks we will be revealing new performances that will make our summer nights at the auditorium
a unique experience”.
Solidarity
One of the most notable aspects of the event is its charitable nature. Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to support the Food Bank by donating non-perishable food items. “There is no admission fee, but we ask attendees to contribute what they can. Every
Azahara Rodríguez and Cêcile Brillet exhibit at the Mijas Tourist Office
Nuria Luque / I. Pérez On Tuesday 1st, two craftswomen, Azahara Rodríguez and Cêcile Brillet, presented a joint exhibition that will remain open to the public until the 30th of July at the Mijas Pueblo Tourist Office. Crochet, the first, and ceramics, the second, are the crafts showcased by the artisans. The councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez (Vox), attended the inauguration of the exhibition to support them and to highlight the mastery of both artists.
“In this Tourist Office, exhibitions change every month, and
we have no intention of stopping this initiative in either the near or distant future”, said the councillor. Rodríguez, a crochet expert, is self-employed and runs the business La Cangrejita Tejedora: “I have a clothing brand based on measurements rather than sizes, so I work to order, tailoring each garment to fit like a second skin”. She has been a member of the Mijas Craft Association for three years and considers exhibiting her work at the Tourist Office,
small gesture helps those who need it most”, emphasised Jerez.
In addition to its social impact, the initiative aims to boost the local economy and encourage visitors to stay longer. “We don’t want tourists to just come in the morning and leave straight after. If they know there’s a free concert in the evening, and in such a special setting as the auditorium, they’re more likely to stay for dinner, go for a walk, and get to know more about the village”, the councillor added.
Cultural entertainment
Blues Night, organised by the Tourism Department, is part of a wider cultural entertainment strategy aimed at both visitors and local residents from Mijas and nearby towns. “Last year, we already saw these concerts filling up, not just with tourists, but with local residents and people from across the region. They create a calm, cool, welcoming atmosphere, which makes our summer nights truly special”, concluded Jerez.
The event on July 12th is just the first in a series of concerts that will liven up Mijas Pueblo during the summer. For the Town Hall, it is “a commitment to culture, quality tourism and solidarity, that reinforces the image of the municipality as a vibrant and committed destination”.
aimed at visitors, “a privilege”. Brillet also appreciates this opportunity: “I get the feeling that Mijas is a very touristy town all year round, with lots of people passing through, so July is a good month to exhibit, it’s going to be fantastic.”
A donation of one kilo, litre or pack of non-perishable food or personal hygiene products is appreciated; these will be given to the Municipal Food Bank.
From the 1st to the 30th of July, the exhibition of these two craftswomen can be visited at the Tourist Office, which is open to the public from 9 to 20 hours. The office is located in the Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas Pueblo.
Two artisans per month
Each month, the Mijas Pueblo Tourist Office will renew its exhibition space with a new selection of local artisans, offering a corner for these creators to showcase their art. For a period of 30 days, both visitors and residents will be able to enjoy a varied display of art, featuring unique pieces. This initiative not only the cultural offering of Mijas but also represents a unique opportunity for the artisans.

June ordinary plenary session
A budget amendment of is approved 2.5 million euros
The Operational Services Department will assume 93.17% of the total amendment, with the remainder allocated to Civil Protection
Report by Carmen Martín
On Wednesday 2nd, the Mijas Town Hall held its plenary session for the month of June, during which it gave the green light to a budget amendment amounting to 2,550,353.16 euros. “With this third budget amendment, we aim to improve society in Mijas, as is our duty, and to do so with judgement and seriousness”, said the councillor for Economy and Finance, Mario Bravo (PP), who was responsible for defending the proposal, which was approved with votes in favour from the government team, against from Ciudadanos and with the PSOE abstaining.
1.2 million will be allocated to the comprehensive maintenance of various areas of Mijas, including the Coastal Path
Bravo explained that most of the budget amendment, 2,376,291.25 euros (93.17% of the total), will be allocated to the Operational Services area, where the aim is to implement a comprehensive maintenance contract for various areas of the municipality, including the Coastal Path, with a budget of 1,218,000 euros; 121,000 euros will go towards the plumbing supplies contract and 170,000 euros to the maintenance of ornamental fountains. Other lines of action include plans to increase allocations for painting and concrete, the councillor added, noting that they also intend to contract the painting of the Town Hall façade and the branch offices.
The remainder of the budget amendment, 174,061.91 euros, will be allocated to Civil Protection, reflecting “the government team’s firm commitment to safety and prevention in the municipality”, the Executive stated in a press release. This investment will fund meal allowances and the purchase of medical supplies, internvention equipment, road safety systems, drones for emergencies, specialised clothing and the modernisa-

being strengthened, the response is being professionalised and those who protect us are being protected”, said the councillor for the area, Francisco Jerez (Vox), in the press release.
Interventions during plenary session
The opposition criticised that a new budget amendment had been made, the third since the budget was approved, with an unfavourable report from the comptroller and with expenditure, they pointed out, that is structural and should be included in the ordinary budget. “This is pure improvisation... I don’t know if it’s the ‘leitmotiv’ or the headline for this government team, but you could say there is neither order nor law: once again, a budget amendment is being presented without a favourable report from the comptroller”, said the spokesperson for the PSOE Municipal Group at the Town Hall, Roy Pérez
tion of the vehicle fleet, including the bodywork and branding of motorbike.
“The first point in the ten-point motion of no confidence was precisely the issue of disorder and lack of control, and here we have an example of both. The second was the need for rigour in complying with the law, yet the report is unfavourable and by a different comptroller”, said the spokesperson for the Ciudadanos Municipal Group, José Carlos Martín, who also pointed out that the amendment includes “structural expenses.”
but actions: real resources are finally being provided to an essential service that has been overlooked for
The councillor for finance highlighted the fact that the Town Hall has a budget, something that, he noted, the previous government team failed to deliver. Bravo also defended the budget amendment and said that the fact that they want to repeat this investment in the next budgets “does not mean it is not a new expense nor that it should be postponed until the following year. Budget amendments do not rule out structural spending, and that the only two conditions are that the expense was not previously foreseen and that it cannot be delayed until the next year”, concluded Bravo.

A society without stereotypes
According to this statement, almost half of the LGBTI community victims who suffer physical, sexual or verbal assaults do not report them due to fear or lack of confidence in the institutional process. In this regard, Mata advocated for a society free from stereotypes, stating that “Spain is a country where freedoms take precedence over any individual interest, and this must con-

Lastly, the mayoress and also councillor for Family and Equal Opportunities, pledged to work closely with the group Colega, an association that has been advocating for all sexual identities, expressions and orientations for over two decades. Its president, Santiago Rubio, also attended the reading of the manifesto, “which contains many good intentions on paper, but ultimately there must be a commitment to put them into practice, to create equality policies and, most importantly, to bring this issue to schools and young people, as we have been doing for a very long time”.

The Villa de Mijas Theatre Festival is one of the major summer events for the performing arts in Andalusia, featuring artists and companies such as Els Comediants, Yllana, Rafael Álvarez‘El Brujo’ Javier Gurruchaga, Leo Bassi, Clownic de Tricicle, El Club de la Comedia with Enrique San Francisco, Pablo Motos... The event has been held annually since 1986 during the summer months, outdoors at the Miguel González Berral Municipal Auditorium. The councillor for Culture at the Mijas Town Hall, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), said that “it’s already been 39 years of a festival with a deep tradition, and we are making this announcement to invite all the residents of Mijas and anyone who would like to visit us during those days to enjoy the theatre in this beautiful setting”. On this occasion, there are four plays on the programme of this long-running festival.
Programme
On 24th of July, the play ‘Trash’ will arrive, a show exploring the possibilities of recycling through percussion, movement, and humour. Set in a recycling centre, four imaginative workers give new uses to all kinds of waste, prompting reflection on the excesses of consumer society.
‘Una pequeña historia’ (A
Short Story), starring Héctor Alterio, will be performed on the 25th of July. In this piece, the renowned actor recounts how, in 1974, he arrived in Spain to present his play ‘La Tregua’ (The Truce), but when he tried to catch his flight back to Buenos Aires, there were no seats left. That was how Madrid became his prison and his salvation. On this journey down memory lane, he will recite some poems and tangos with his unique voice, accompanied musically by Juan Esteban Cuacci
On the 26th, it will be the turn of ‘War Baby’, a wild anti-

war comedy. The play takes us to a military recruitment centre, where a group of clueless recruits are trained for a ridiculous war started by the country’s new leader, who turns out to be a spoilt and bellicose baby. A string of hilarious characters and endless crazy situations around the theme of war and power form the basis of this anti-war satire by Yllana.
And finally, on the 27th, it will be the turn of ‘Una libra de carne’ by the local theatre company Teatro Mijas. The play ba-
sed on one of the central sscenes from William Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice’. The lawsuit brought by the moneylender Tomás Shylock García against Elías Belúver, a downon-his-luck office worker of our times, exposes the mental limitations of the archetypes who serve as jurors and witnesses in the trial, against whom a character simply called ‘Man’ rebels in the final scene.
A “very varied programme that includes comedy, poetry and reflection; in short, a diver-
se offering to suit the tastes of Mijas residents, who are great lovers of theatre, but we also know visitors come from across the province of Málaga”, said the councillor responsible for Culture.
All performances will begin at 22 hours, with free admission until full capacity is reached.
“This is the philosophy of Culture: to make it accessible to everyone by making it as easy as possible for theatre lovers, and therefore culture lovers, to attend”, concluded Maldonado.
