F.M.R. The ‘Mijas con Alma’ (Mijas with Soul) talk series, promoted by the Family and Equal Opportunities Department of the Town Hall, will feature a special guest speaker on Friday 13th: nurse and transpersonal coach Irene Cañamero. The event will take place at 19h hours at the La Cala Branch Office, with free admission upon registration. This was announced on Thursday 5th by the mayoress and head of the department, Ana Mata (PP), who highlighted the speaker’s expertise. “Irene Cañamero is a true reference in the field of personal development. Through a very difficult life experience, she has become an inspiration to many people, so what she shares with us will help us grow as individuals and will benefit us when it comes to making decisions”, said the mayoress.
To facilitate attendance at this event, the Town Hall has arranged a free transport service from Mijas Pueblo (18 hours, departing from the Town Hall) and Las Lagunas (18:30 hours, departing from the Ford roundabout). Registration is requi-

red at inscripciones.igualdad@ mijas.es or on 952 58 90 01, as places are limited.
From healthcare to resilience Cañamero’s talk is entitled ‘Personal challenge and overcoming adversity: my personal story. The importance of emotional and mental management’ and will explain that “we all have problems in life, we all face challenges and complicated situations that are not necessarily related to health. However, we all have resilience, which is the ability to rise above adversity, something we have not been taught to do”, explained the coach herself, adding that after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, she realised that “it was not enough just to work on the physical, but that we needed to find resources and tools elsewhere”.
The ‘Mijas con Alma’ series, which has been running for a year now and has featured speakers such as Dr Carmen Alegría and Emilio Carrillo, aims to be a benchmark for personal growth on the Costa del Sol.

The platform will allow over 300 procedures to be carried out online and will enable electronic notifications, streamlining administration and improving transparency

“The Town Hall must make it as easy as possible for citizens to interact with it, enabling them to carry out procedures simply and efficiently, and access information from the Town Hall, which is an exercise in transparency and public service”

“This is another step forward in our aim to organise the Town Hall and comply with established regulations, this new tool is crucial for that, both internally and externally”
The electronic office of the Mijas Town Hall has enabled two key advances:

The Town Hall’s IT department, led by the councillor for New Technologies and Digital Modernisation, is driving this rollout to impleent the elect onic office which is expected to be fully operational by the end of next month
is thus complying with a 2015 law that the council had not addressed
After a long wait and as a “priority for this government team”, the Mijas Town Hall finally launched its updated electronic office on Monday 2nd of June. The flagship of this modernisation is the state-of-the-art municipal electronic office, a web portal accessible at https://mijas.sedelectronica.es designed to make life easier for citizens and businesses in their dealings with the Town hall. “Until now, the Mijas Town Hall lacked a portal that complied with current legislation. Well, we have now solved this problem and are launching our updated office, through which all kinds of procedures can be carried out and consulted easily. This brings us closer to the citizens”, said the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP).
Specifically, in this case, this electronic office complies with the provisions of Law 39/2015 on Common Administrative Procedure for Public Administrations, Law 40/2015 on the Legal Regime of the Public Sector and Royal Decree 203/2021 on the Regulation of the Public Sector’s
Use of Electronic Means. “This Town Hall did not have an electronic office. When we took office, the need was clear for various reasons: firstly, internal management; but also the outward-facing side of citizen services and the possibility of handling different citizen procedures smoothly, without them having to visit the various offices, the Town Hall, or local branches”, explained the councillor for New Technologies and Digital Modernisation, Juan José Torres Trella (PP).
Although electronic administration is an internal tool that transforms all departments, for taxpayers it translates into two key advances. On the one hand, electronic notifications: the Town Hall will notify via this channel all those legally obliged
to receive them this way, as well as anyone who requests it. This is a crucial advantage, especially for those who do not reside permanently in our town, as they will receive notifications wherever they are. On the other hand, the electronic office: through this, more than 300 procedures can be carried out “with full guarantees, free of charge and 24 hours a day, without the need to call, email or visit municipal offices”, emphasised Torres Trella. Access is possible from computers and mobile phones, though currently, no English version is planned. Features include a general interoperable register, electronic files, electronic billing, a notice board, a catalogue of procedures by department and document validation, as well as a future link to the Transparency Portal. The councillor also

stressed that this “will improve the service for people at home and reduce queues for those who attending in person”. The transformation has not been plain sailing. The process of contracting and awarding the service to the external company Gestiona for 1,073,928.64 euros over four years took se-
veral months. The implementation, which according to Torres Trella will be completed by the end of July with the migration of old data, has required a “major effort” with more than 20 people from the contracting company working side by side with municipal staff to ease the transition in workflows.

The group donates six shade sails, representing an investment of 8,800 euros

On June 3rd, the Adimi association presented the latest donation received for its care centre. On this occasion, the Rotary Club Mijas International donated outdoor awnings for its garden area. The club has been raising funds for a whole year and finally reached its goal before the arrival of summer. The manager of Adimi, Laura Villa, explained that Rotary “has been fully committed to securing funding for this project over the past year”, organising events and raising funds with the support and sponsorship of numerous companies. This was confirmed by the current president of Rotary Club Mijas Internacional, Katja Range: “This has been our main project of the year. The garden was large but completely lacked shade, and some patients even suffered sunburns because they don’t feel the sun as intensely”.
Before summer, they raised 8,800 euros to purchase the shade sails. According to Range, “it was a substantial amount, so alongside all the events we organise, this year we have also created sponsorship packages for companies to support our club”.
The users of Adimi, both those who attend during the day and
those who live at the centre, are already enjoying their workshops and walks in the open air and shade, thanks to these six shade sails, which come with a 10-year guarantee.
A vegetable garden Rotary is deeply involved with the Adimi association, and several members of this club are working on other projects with them. One example is the new vegetable garden now up and running at Adimi, thanks to the collaboration of Rotary member George Lumby. A full class of 40 users took part in its creation and are responsible for ca-

ring for certain areas. According to George Lumby, “each of them has their own plant, a palm tree, and they have to come and water it”, as well as other vegetables.
The Autism Charity Food Association donates over 15,000 euros to them

Ed. Dept. The Mijas Town Hall, through its Environment Department, has organised a collaborative clean-up of El Faro Beach on Saturday 7th of June, from 9:30 to 12:30 hours. During this event, volunteers will walk around the area collecting rubbish and reflecting on its impact on the marine and coastal environment. The initiative is being held in collaboration with the environmental volunteer group Creamar Mijas, from the Aula del Mar Mediterráneo Foundation (FAMM) and the aim is to raise awareness of World Oceans Day, which is commemorated on June 8th. The activity was announced on June 5th, coinciding with World Environment Day.
PATRON SAINT
The Posidonia meadows along the Mijas coastline will also play a prominent role. A workshop entitled ‘Submerged Forests’ has been organised to address the ecological importance of Posidonia oceanica meadows, a marine plant vital for coastal conservatio. In addition, at 12 noon, a new informative poster about this species will be presented at the Calaburra Viewpoint. “Dissemination is essential to raise awareness of the wealth of our environment, especially among future generations. With this type of dynamic and interactive activities, we get the public involved”, said the councillor for the Environment, Marco Cortés (PP).

C.M. On Monday 2nd, the main events marking the 439th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgen de la Peña took place, including a Eucharist, a children’s floral offering and the touching of the
patron saint’s mantle. The mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), attended the act, during which it was announced that the Local Police would be the official announcer of the festivities in honour of the Virgin.

This year, the municipality has earned the award for Calahonda-Riviera, joining Calahonda-Royal Beach-La Luna, El Bombo, El Chaparral, and La Cala
Thanks to the quality of its services and the condition of its beaches, Mijas has once again become a safe, accessible and sustainable spot on the Spanish coast. This is guaranteed by the five blue flags awarded to the municipality, one more than in previous years. “This is a very important day for Mijas and for all the municipalities that care for the coastline and want to be a benchmark. One of these is Mijas, as we have regained a Blue Flag, adding one more to the four we already had, so now we have five”, said the councillor for Beaches of the Mijas Town Hall, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), at the award ceremony held on Friday 30th at the Pez Espada hotel in Torremolinos.
The event was attended by hundreds of representatives from the recognised municipalities, as well as the Regional Minister for Tourism and Foreign Affairs of the Junta de Andalucía, Arturo Bernal; the mayoress of Torremolinos, Margarita Del Cid, who acted as hostess, and the president of the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac), José Palacios
has once again obtained the Blue Centre certification for the Watchtowers
Calahonda-Riviera beach regains this recognition, which is once again confirmed for Calahonda-Royal Beach-La Luna, El Chaparral, El Bombo and La Cala. But these were not the only distinctions received. Mijas has once again obtained the Blue Centre certification thanks to the Watchtowers Interpretation Centre, located at El Torreón in La Cala. “We are the only municipality in Malaga that has a Blue Centre, which is also very important because it is an educational centre that connects the sea with education for children, and that is very important”, added the councillor, who was responsible for collecting this certificate and the five blue flags for Mijas.
The councillor praised the work of the Beaches team, both municipal workers and those from Renta Básica, as well as the beach bar owners for meeting the criteria required by the Adeac audit, which is responsible for awarding these distinctions after carrying

out an exhaustive evaluation of parameters such as water quality, environmental management, safety, information and accessibility.
The president of the association, referring to the work carried out by Mijas, stressed that “the Town Hall is doing an excellent job. I always say that the technicians are there helping constantly to make Mijas stand out. Five blue flags, one regained, and next year they may go for another one”.
This is a record number of awards, which, according to the Minister of Tourism, who presided over friday’s ceremony, represents a collective effort to preserve the coastal environment and a commitment to visitors, a task for which he announced a new line of subsidies. “We expect it to be in place before summer, with the largest funding to date for this type of action, 6 million euros for municipalities to improve and maintain these elements of competitiveness, diversification, environmental impact, accessibility and safety”, Bernal said.
Blue Trail Award
It is worth noting that the munici-

pality has also recently renewed the Blue Trail distinction for the Coastal Path, an annual award granted by Adeac, which was also presented at Friday’s event.
The Mijas Coastal Path is a pedestrian and cycling route that runs parallel to the Mediterranean, from La Cala to the municipality of Marbella. Besides being a key connecting route, it holds great scenic value as it allows visitors to learn about the local fauna and flora through informative panels placed at various points along the path.

Fire Prevention Campaign

M.J.Gómez / C.Bejarano
For the second consecutive year, the Mijas Town Hall has launched an information campaign to prevent forest fires, which will be disseminated through institutional social media channels and Mijas Comunicación.
Mijas, due to its climate and natural features, presents a high risk of forest fires, especially during the summer months. In fact, the town is included in the areas at risk of forest fires in Andalusia, as established in the applicable regional regulations (Law 5/1999 of 29 June on the ‘Prevention and Fight Against Forest Fires and its Regulation’).

In case of emergency, call

to October 15th, burning is not permitted
“The campaign presents images contrasting everyday life with the effects of fires to raise awareness of their devastating consequences. In Mijas, unfortunately, we have suffered fires that have caused extensive damage and irreparable consequences to our natural environment. Prevention is the best tool”, explained the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP).
For his part, the councillor for the Fire Department and Civil Protection, Francisco Jerez (Vox), stressed the importance of citizen involvement to reduce the risk of forest fires: “Every summer we face a real and very high risk.
The campaign will be disseminated through the various Mijas Comunicación platforms and the Town Hall’s social media channels the campaign ‘LET ONLY THE SUN SHINE THIS SUMMER, NOT FLAMES’ and ‘Sparks of happiness, don’t let them be destroyed by fire’ are some of the messages it conveys.
Although we have excellent professionals and response resources, the most effective measure is to prevent fires from starting. That largely depends on the residents and visitors of Mijas. One moment of carelessness or recklessness can trigger a tragedy. A moment of carelessness or recklessness can trigger a tragedy”.
Jerez reminded everyone that collaboration is essential: “It’s not just about following the rules, but about being aware of the environment we live in and acting responsibly. That’s precisely what

this campaign aims to achieve: to appeal to everyone’s conscience to protect what belongs to us all”.
The initiative is built around three key messages: ‘Let only the sun shine this summer, not flames’, ‘Sparks of happiness, don’t let them be destroyed by fire’ and ‘Enjoy a dazzling summer, from start to finish’. Following the same approach as last year’s campaign, its goal is to contrast everyday summer scenes with how a small careless act can lead to a fire with irreversible consequences. The campaign will be disseminated in

The Junta de Andalucía (Regional Government of Andalusia) establishes these prohibitions in the regional order of 21 May 2009 and determines that: It is prohibited to:

· Use fire or drive motor vehicles in forest areas and their surrounding influence zones (including riverbanks and streams), that is, within a 400-metre strip around these areas.
· Barbecues are not allowed, even in designated areas, such as recreational or camping areas, nor is it permitted to carry out agricultural or vegetation waste burning. In fact, in the case of Mijas, the barbecues at El Esparragal Park have been sealed off as a preventive measure, since this area is considered forest land.
both English and Spanish.
Maintenance of the mountains
In line with this prevention effort, the mayoress pointed out that this year, for the first time, the Mijas Town Hall has put out to tender the maintenance of the mountains with the aim of ensuring that the forest remains in the best possible condition. This has been allocated a budget of 1,217,715.13 million euros (including VAT) and will remain in force until 2029, including any corresponding extensions.
The work covered by the
contract includes silvicultural treatments, clearing by brush cutting, thinning and pruning (including the removal of invasive species), reforestation and the conservation, maintenance and improvement of forestry infrastructure. The scope of work will cover the Sierra Blanca and Bermeja areas, and all tasks will be carried out in accordance with technical criteria.
In general, the work will be carried out from Monday to Friday, in eight-month campaigns, between October 1st and May 31st.

Get ready because pirates are coming ashore, but in the best possible way, offering fun and entertainment for all ages. The councillor for Public Roads at the Mijas Town Hall, Melisa Ceballos (PP), announced on Wednesday 4th of June that La Cala de Mijas will be hosting a pirate-themed market from the 13th to the 15th of June. It will take place in the Carrefour car park on the Boulevard and will feature themed stalls, performances and workshops.

In total, there will be five parades and a theatre performance with the finalists of the 2022 Max Awards, Sergio Rey and Irene Gutiérrez, and various “pirate” activities aimed at encouraging creativity among children and adults. One of the most eagerly awaited moments will take place on Saturday night, when a fire show will round off the day.
As explained by the councillor, the entire area will be decorated with pirate and nautical motifs to create a fantasy atmosphere. There will be craft and food stalls, as well as various children’s workshops, including

pality, so activities like this one are perfect for that. We have already held other themed markets that have been a success, and I am convinced that this one will be too. I encourage everyone to come along and enjoy this unique experience”, said Ceballos.

Around 45 people attended the dinner, which was held on Friday 30th on the terrace of the Patio Antiguo restaurant in Mijas Pueblo. The diners not only enjoyed the evening but also contributed their bit by provi-

ding financial support to help this NGO continue its work for those most in need. “The money goes directly here, to Mijas, to those in need: families, AFA. Last week, we helped a homeless person sleeping on the street get out of that very difficult situation”, emphasised Rondou. “We lend a hand to the people of Mijas, of course, to anyone who needs it, and not just in the town. When the DANA hit, we personally loaded cars with donations and took them to the affected areas. Wherever a helping hand is needed, you can be sure a Lion will be there”, added Javier Fructuoso, a member of the Mijas Lions Club’s board of directors.
Among those in attendance was the president of the governors, Fernando Juanes, who recalled some of the campaigns run by the NGO, which has 1.4 million members worldwide.
