The ‘Mijas Solidaria’ campaign launched last Thursday 31st by the Town Hall and Mijas Civil Protection to help those affected by the DANA has become yet another example of the most
human side of the Mijeños. Collectives, companies, educational centres and anonymous citizens are some of the sectors that have mobilised the most to get basic products for the areas where the water has done the most damage, especially the Valencian community. By hte morning of Thursday
7th, some 89,000 kilos had already been collected. The mayoress of the town, Ana Mata (PP), in response to this tide of solidarity, thanked, last Saturday 2nd, the residents “for all the affection and support and, above all, for wanting to do their bit with their many donations”, first, at the headquarters of Civil Protection; and on Saturday also at the La Cala Branch Office and next to the Town Hall; and since Monday 4th, at the old fire station, on Camino de Las Cañadas. Mijas solidarity goes beyond donations, as a team of Mijas Firefighters travelled on Tuesday 5th to Valencia to collaborate in various tasks.

The desire to help has been incredible and the people of Mijas have been so enthusiastic that we have collected some 89,000 kilos of products that will be sent to alencia and this figure continues to grow every day”, said on Wednesday 6th the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), who thanked “residents, volunteers, businesses, groups and municipal departments” for giving their best to make the campaign work: “These Valencian towns need our help and Mijas will always be by their side”, concluded the mayoress. The aid is being collected and will arrive in Valencia as it is requested:: “ Right now they don’t want us to send them things; we are storing the material and organising it very well in different warehouses and when they start asking for supplies we will send them the trailers loaded, but it won’t be immediately because the logistics are not organised, they are still overloaded and they are still cleaning up”, added the councillor for Civil Protection, Francisco Jerez (VOX).

Ordinary Plenary Session in October
The municipality renews two agreements with the Transport Consortium of Malaga
The agreements will be valid until the end of 2025 and will allow the operation of up to five public bus lines in the municipality
Report by Irene Pérez / Design: I.M.
In a plenary session, the Mijas Town Hall renewed on Monday 4th two agreements it has with the Metropolitan Transport Consortium of the Area of Malaga, which will be valid until the end of 2025 and which allows the circulation of up to five public bus lines in the municipality: the M-119 line, which operates between Calahonda and Fuengirola; the M-156, which links Las Lagunas with the shopping centre and Cerros del Águila; the M-222, which runs through El Barrio, Mijas, La Alquería and Fuengirola; the M-223, which goes to Entrerríos, and the M-114, which offers trans-
portation to the University of Málaga. The fixed cost for the provision of the services is 1.4 million
euros, VAT not included. Regarding these lines, the councillor for Urban Mobility, Mar-
co Cortés (PP), pointed out that some of them have improved their service in recent months, “such as the M-114, which has included an afternoon shift at the request of students, or the M-119, which now provides service every weekend of the year, not just during the summer period, thus improving the connection with the residential areas for the whole year, and, soon, we will also increase the frequency of the stops”. However, the PSOE councillor in Mijas, Natalia Martínez, said that these agreements are not adapted to the current needs of the municipality and do not add new bus lines. The existing ones, she recalled, were initiated by the previous government team, “and the Consortium costs the people of Mijas more than 1.5 million euros for 2024 and 2025, at least the service should be efficient, effective and, of course, cover the demand of all residents of Mijas”.
For his part, the spokesman for Ciudadanos Mijas, José Carlos Martín, argued that the abstention of his group in the vote on this point was due to the unfa-
vourable report issued by the comptroller, “which joins the report of the secretary, also unfavourable, because it does not comply with the contract law and administrative rectitude does not appear here either”. In response to all this, Cortés defended that the government team is putting a lot of effort into improving mobility in the municipality, in fact, “we have already published the proposal for a new urban transport ordinance, as well as having created a committee to

The budget
for 2025 foresees an item for a diagnosis of childhood in Mijas
I.P. On Monday 4th, the municipal corporation of the Mijas Town Hall unanimously voted in favour of the municipality joining the institutional agreement for childhood and adolescence. With this proposal by Social Inclusion, the Mijas Town Hall is committed, among other things, to create a technical forum in which children and teenagers can give their opinion on municipal management issues, “also sharing learning and good practices that ensure and promote protection, the good care for children, child participation and the comprehensive and transversal nature of the actions within our entities”, explained the councillor for this department, Melisa Ceballos (PP).
The text also promotes the development of programmes that support the so-called positive parenting of families in the care,
education and integral development of children. The agreement also advocates the creation of participation boards for children and teenagers, both at local and provincial level. In this regard,
the councillor said that “the government team is already organising a children’s plenary session to be held on the 20th of November in the plenary hall and, with a view to the 2025 budget, we have

Ordinary Plenary Session in October
The plenary session held on Monday 4th in the Mijas Town Hall initially approved a budget amendment so that the Social Services department can extend the home help service for people in a situation of dependency, allocating a total of 1.38 million euros for this purpose.
According to the councillor for Economy and Finance, Mario Bravo (PP), the new contract for home help for people in a situation of dependency has not been put out to tender “because there have been certain changes in the regulations of the Junta de Andalucía which, among other things, has demanded an increase in the hourly price of this service, so in the meantime, since May, home help has been maintained through an emergency contract”, said the councillor, explaining that “there is money set aside, money to cover this activity, but as it is subject to the formalisation of a contract, we are making this credit extension so that the company does not have to

Likewise, the councillor added that “although formally it is an increase in expenditure, in practice only one of the two budget items is being executed, either the one reserved for the final contract or the one for the emergency contract”.
In this regard, the groups of the opposition considered that bringing this modification of 1.38 million euros to the October plenary session reflects a lack of planning by the government team. The spokesman for the Municipal Group Ciudadanos in the Mijas Town Hall, José Carlos Martín,

THE CONTRACT
for Home Help
According to the councillor for Economy and Finance, Mario Bravo (PP), the new contract for home help for people in a situation of dependency “has not been put out to tender because there have been certain changes in the regulations of the Junta de Andalucía which, among other things, has demanded an increase in the hourly price of this service, so in the meantime, since May, home help has been maintained through an emergency contract”.
recalled that “the company has not been paid since May, but during the year we have approved four budget amendments, why was this item not included in the first amendment? For his part, the spokesman for the PSOE Municipal Group in the Mijas Town Hall, Roy Pérez, pointed out that “the cost of home help is not something unusual, that surprises anyone or that comes out of the blue. It is an expense that is executed every month and that should have its contract, so we think that here the-
re has been laziness and we would like them to explain who has forgotten this important matter”.
In response, Bravo assured that “this emergency contract was made in May to continue with home help, but it has been made simultaneously to the normal and
official contracting with a company that is in a position to contract and that is not in an irregular situation, as happened to the previous government team”. Likewise, the councillor for Economy and Finance said that “the government team did not want to bring this

budget amendment because we were waiting for the final contract to come out, but it has not come
out yet, so we preferred to make this contribution”.
In the end, the government team voted in favour, the PSOE voted against and Ciudadanos abstained.
Expense files
On the other hand, three other expense files valued at around 79,000 euros were also approved in this plenary session. Of these invoices, two of them correspond to electricity supply costs for public roads, for 55,000 and 22,000 euros respectively, while the third, for 1,900 euros, refers to a legal study commissioned by the Human Resources department.

The work, which aims to prevent flooding, will continue until March in order to prevent forest fires
B.Martín / Design: C.Bejarano
At the beginning of October, the Town Hall began cleaning up the streams following an action plan, stated the mayoress Ana Mata (PP): “There is a planning that takes into account which are the most problematic areas when there are torrential rains. Therefore, we are going to continue working on perfecting these measures so that, at a time of adverse weather like this past week in Valencia, we have as little damage as possible”. Operational Services is the department carrying out this work. Up to four teams with heavy machinery such as the one that worked on Wednesday 6th in the María Barranco stream (Las Lagunas) are spread across the different streams. The councillor responsible, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), explained that “we have always worked, firstly, on the streams that are closest to the urban centres, and then we work on the outskirts, on the perimeters, to give the main stream a better outlet”. Gómez Teruel added that “the latest rains, which have registered up to 160 litres in

the municipality, have not caused any incident, which shows that the work has been done properly”. This action in the streams has also avoided, according to the councillor, problems on the coast: “This preventive work that we do throughout the year, in this flooding that we have had with these rains, has prevented the Mijas coastline from accumulating a lot of reeds or vegetation, which in other years we have had, having
to clean beaches for months; today, however, the entire coastline has been cleaned”.
Streams
Work has already been carried out on the following streams: El Chaparral, La Cala, El Moro, El Zoco, Bárcena, Limonar, Algaida, La Lucera, El Bombo, Calahonda, El Charcón, El Maestro and many more. Practically all the streams in the municipality are now clean,

C.L./N.L. The AECC of Mijas and Fuengirola join forces to publish a solidarity calendar and raise funds for research. The calendar features photographs taken by the students of the photography workshops of the UP of Mijas and Fuengirola and the production of Mijas Comunicación. A total of 2,000 copies have been published which, on this occasion, have been financed by the Malaga Provincial Council.
The presentation of the calendars took place on the 6th of November at the Centre for Active Participation in Las Lagunas. The president of the delegation in Mijas, Lola Sanchís, explained that “patients, workers, physiotherapists, social workers, psychologists, etc. have collaborated in this calendar”. Sanchís also highlighted the participation of the photographers, who are students of the UP of Mijas and Fuengirola, and the production of Mijas Comunicación”.
This year, the initiative has a slogan that governs the entire campaign, ‘Elige siempre el color de la vida’ (‘Always choose the colour of life’). “In this calendar we try to transmit our values to all those who buy it. We encourage them to look at the photos and we want them to know that there is life, there is joy and colour, something that the collaborating photographers have managed to convey perfectly”, said Sanchís. The funds raised will be used to finance cancer research, as well as providing help and advice to families and people suffe-
ring from cancer. The calendars can be purchased at the AECC headquarters in Fuengirola or by calling 900 100 036.
The Mijas Town Hall also supports this cause. The councillor responsible for the Universidad Popular, Melisa Ceballos (PP), also present at this presentation, took the opportunity to “thank the AECC, which has relied on the UP to produce these calendars, which are wonderful. Students from the photography workshop have participated and I hope that they sell all the copies and raise a lot of funds”.

The mayoress also appealed to residents not to deposit rubbish, rubble or household items in the streams, but to do so at the points designated for this purpose, as this uncivic gesture can cause blockages at the mouths of the streams.

C.Luque. On Thursday 7th, the Idiliq Foundation handed over all the proceeds from its latest charity events, a total of 15,000 euros. The group celebrated its pink month in October, full of charitable activities aimed at raising funds for breast cancer.
According to the president of the foundation, Juan Miguel Marcos, “the month’s contribution was 15,000 euros, the largest contribution in a single year, in addition to other events we have held with the AECC”. Likewise, Marcos added that during the year “sports activities, yoga classes, raffles, the Smile Mile, a solidarity lunch and breakfast for all the volunteers” have been carried out”. At the presentation of the cheque, the founding member and promoter of this organisation, Roy Peires, thanked all the volunteers
for their work and involvement in charitable causes. The cheque was received by the president of the AECC in Malaga, Joaquín Morales, who thanked the foundation for its enormous work and effort.
“This help is essential, like so many others that we receive from generous organisations and individuals. The AECC dedicates all its efforts to carry out prevention, care and research work”, he said.
The ceremony was attended by the mayoress of the municipality, Ana Mata (PP), and the councillor for Volunteering and Social Inclusion, Melisa Ceballos (PP), , as well as the representatives of the association in Mijas, Lola Sanchís

wORLD TRAVEL MARKET Mijas promotes itself at the as a unique destination
The municipality promoted the golf sector with the aim of breaking the seasonality and attracting this sport tourism
M.J.G., C.L. y C.B.
More than 4,000 professionals from the sector and some 5,000 tourist destinations met until the 7th of November at Excel London on the occasion of the World Travel Market (WTM). Mijas was present at this fair, one of the most important international tourism events, which brought together the main agents, institutions and operators in the sector. The local councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez (Vox), and the head of the department, Juan Carlos Acevedo, travelled to the capital of the United Kingdom.
The municipality was presented to visitors as a unique destination for the “sensory and evocative experience it offers”, with the campaign ‘Mijas, as you like it’. The objective, said the coun-
cillor for Tourism, is “to fulfil an agenda of meetings and gatherings with different operators to reinforce the positioning of Mijas in the international market and to work in new markets”. “We are already holding meetings and working groups with Canadian tour operators. We want them to come to Mijas. So far it is an unknown market for us, but it has great possibilities. Their winter is very harsh and here they can find an enviable climate with a temperature of 20 degrees and many sunny days, which can be very attractive for them at this time of year”, said Jerez.
The councillor also highlighted “the important work that the tourist offices carry out in the town, it is a gateway for tourists and they offer an efficient, very professional and attentive servi-
ce”, as reflected in the statistics, which show that the British market occupies almost 20% of the queries they deal with, being the most numerous traveller after the national tourist.
Golf
There is no doubt that the golf segment is absolutely essential for Mijas and for fulfilling another of its objectives: to break the seasonality. Not only because of the number of courses, but also because of their quality and routes, features that place the municipality in a very advantageous and privileged position to attract a visitor that brings great benefits.
“To talk about golf is to talk about quality tourism, a differentiated offer and commitment, and Mijas is a benchmark in this sport and a key operator. In fact, it gathers
17% of the courses on the Costa del Sol, being the second municipality with the largest offer”, said Jérez. The latest data recorded show that, since the pandemic, the average expenditure of golf tourists in Mijas has risen from 120 euros per day to more than 200 euro. In addition, Mijas is a leader in golf tourism packages.
For all these reasons, according to the councillor for Tourism, “the presence of Mijas at
the World Travel Market will have a special impact in this area. In fact, the promotion of the 1st Mijas Sun & Golf golf circuit, held from June to August, which involved six golf courses in the municipality, highlights the strategic nature of this sector and, moreover, with the help of ‘Mijas, as you like it’, the municipality consolidates and strengthens its position in the golf tourism sector”.

C.L./B.M. On Wednesday 6th, the Torre Almenara and La Cala secondary schools took part in a talk on the importance of conserving and caring for posidonia meadow. ‘Get to know in order to protect’, that is the motto of this environmental awareness campaign launched by the Foundation Aula del Mar y Mares Circulares (FAMM) in collaboration with the Town Hall, as part of the Bosques Sumergidos (Submerged Forests) project. Its aim is to inform young people about the existence of the Posidonia meadows in Mijas so that they are aware of their high environmental value, with a view to promoting and conserving these marine environments. .
The Aula del Mar Mediterráneo Foundation is raising awareness of the importance of caring for posidonia meadows
Isabel Benítez, Isabel Benítez, a biologist from the Aula del Mar Mediterráneo Foundation, explained that ‘Bosques Sumergidos is focusing on the conservation of the oceanic posidonia meadows. This species is a marine plant exclusive to the Mediterranean, and although many people don’t know about it, even people who have lived here all their lives, it is very important. This species provides food and cleans the waters
where it is found. In Mijas, there are two areas within the Special Area of Conservation (SAC): one in Punta de Calaburra and the other one in Calahonda.
The talks took place between the 4th and the 8th of November at the La Cala Branch Office and at the premises of some schools. According to the councillor for the Environment, Marco Cortés (PP), “250 students from La Cala area will attend the talks. The Aula del Mar Mediterráneo Foundation is going to raise awareness of the posidonia meadows and their importance in our marine environment”.
According to Cristina Moreno, director of Training Projects and Citizen Participation of the FAMM, “with these actions we want young people to be aware of the importance of this marine ecosystem in their municipality and to protect them. They call them the lungs of the sea. In addition, they retain sand from the beaches acting as authentic natural reefs and are refuges for more than a thousand different species”.

Having a support network and knowing that the money donated actually reaches people is very meaningful”, added one of the organisers, Anette Skou Food for babies and pets, cleaning and personal hygiene products are some of the items that were collected. The dinner was attended by many people who highlighted not only the solidarity role of Soroptimist, but also its role in local society, especially
with victims of gender violence. “I always felt very identified with the objectives of this association. Empowering and helping women is part of empowering and helping society, a fairer and more equal society”, said the consul of Denmark, Marisa Moreno “They help women who maybe suffered domestic violence or just help in the local community, which is really important for us foreigners”, said the founder of Costa Women, Ali Meehan
“They are a pioneer for all the projects to do for women. There is no one else in the area that does this, and especially when it comes to violence against women. We are very happy to continue to collaborate with them and help them”, said the president of the La Cala Lions Club, Karen Blair
Soroptimist International Costa del Sol has been involved in various projects for 18 years. It was founded on the 4th of November 2006, in the Mijas Town Hall. During these years it has been actively involved in local activities and has supported many people and organisations, such as Adimi, which was the beneficiary of the first charity dinner, or the Mijas Food Bank. Cudeca needs to raise 125,000 euros to provide services until the end of the year
Lack of money could leave up to 211 people without care by 2025 if funding is not forthcoming
I.P. The Cudeca Foundation is in a delicate situation as, before the end of the year, it needs to raise 125,000 euros to continue providing care and quality of life for people in the province of Malaga with cancer and other advanced diseases. If this is not achieved, up to 211 people could be left without this care by 2025. To avoid this, Cudeca has presented the campaign #SoyCorazónCudeca, available on its website www.cudeca. org, which offers different channels through which citizens can make financial donations to help the Foundation. In this regard, the group recalls that all donations have a tax deduction of up to 80 percent.
Cudeca’s services
Throughout the year, Cudeca offers different services to patients, their families and carers. It provides medical care at the end of life, psychological and
social support, helping them to cope with the emotional challenges of the disease they are going through. The Foundation also works to ensure the dignity of the patients.

that is why the Town Hall is collaborating in this initiative”, said the councillor for Foreigners, Mario Bravo (PP).
The Sports Department also joined in the organisation of this activity in which, in addition to the two and a half kilometre walk, there were musical performances, stands and free glucose tests.
Information and awareness “We have been organising this activity for six years to raise awareness about diabetes, because many people don’t know they have diabetes”, Bowles added.
“I participate because my mother and father have diabetes and I am very afraid of having diabetes too and that’s why I come every year
to take this test”, said one of the participants, Elke Nowak . The neighbour José Luis Rodríguez also agreed: “This is very good, and it saves me from going to the pharmacy, where I usually do this test”.
Mijas, tinged with blue Participants were given blue T-shirts, the colour of the fight against diabetes. “The aim is to make people aware of the problems caused by this disease, in fact this year’s motto is diabetes and wellbeing.
So today, at the invitation of the diabetes group here on the Costa del Sol, led by Anne Bowles and the Lions Club, the Town Hall is helping to raise awareness of the disease,’ added Bravo.
