to get to know Melilla. I have also seen some elderly arriving and they seemed very excited and eager because it was the first time they participated in this trip, so I want to wish them a good time”, said the mayoress of Mijas.
The seniors were accompanied on the trip by the councillor responsible for the area, Silvia Marin (PP), who valued the work of the travel agency: “We are happy with the organization of the agency Halcón Viajes, which is the one awarded the tender and has plenty of experience
with our seniors, so in that aspect we are calm and all we want is that our seniors enjoy”.
This first group arrived at the port of Malaga early on Thursday 24th, while the second group made up of another 200 neighbours of the municipality departs on Friday 25th. They also have four days of expedition ahead of them, and will return from Melilla on Monday 28th, the day in which the third and last group will leave. In addition, a trip to Granada is planned, in which 1,000 elderly people will take part.
For her part, the vice-president of the Mijas Red Cross, María Martínez, thanked Soroptimist “because they have always been great to us and thanks to these donations, which we receive two or three times a year, we are able to help many families to get ahead. In fact, with this donation we will help around 200 families”.
The councillor for Social Inclusion, Melisa Ceballos (PP), who was present when the donations
were made, also expressed her gratitude for “the enormous support that the families of Mijas receive from this association, which helps groups that sometimes we cannot reach”. The role of the Mijas Food Bank is essential for many families who receive help in difficult economic times. The families are supervised by the Social Services, who monitor and control the situation of each one of them.

Municipal plan for PUBLIC HOUSING
Mijas plans over 500 public
HOUSES in different locations
The land available for the construction of the housing units has already been defined, which total almost 36,000 m2
Report by María José Gómez / Design: Isabel Merino
The Mijas Town Hall, through the Town Planning Department, has already planned the plots of land for the construction of public housing. There are four plots of land totalling 35,908.72 square metres where 557 properties of this type are planned. This was announced last Thursday 24th by the mayoress of the municipality, Ana Mata (PP), together with the deputy mayors Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox) and Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), and the councillor for Town Planning, Lourdes Burgos (PP).
Mata explained that work is underway to draw up the necessary specifications for private companies to develop the corresponding projects, within the parameters established therein, something that could become a reality in 2025.
The mayoress described publicprivate collaboration as “essential for initiatives like this one‘’ and also indicated that, once the different projects are presented, ‘’they will be given priority processing status due to their social interest”.
Locations
As for the sites, the first of the
plots is located around Lomas del Real with an area of 3,050.42 square metres where 33 homes are planned; 8,196.30 square metres in the area of Parque Lagunas, located on the outskirts of Avenida Andalucía, where 252 homes are planned; and 18,931 square metres in the area known as Ensanche de La Cala for 232 homes. In addition, there is the so-called Finca el Maro, which includes 40 housing units on a surface area of 5,731m2 and which will be developed directly by the Town Hall. The properties will be for rent and for sale.
Register of Applicants for Housing
With regard to the Register of Applicants for Housing, Mata reca-
lled that it is still open and added that “it is essential to determine the real need for subsidised housing in the municipality”. This is a list where those interested in accessing subsidised housing must provide their full details, as well as their social situation and financial information.
“In the interests of administrative simplification we are working to speed up the process”, said the government team, “so the ordinance will be modified so that registration can be done by providing a responsible declaration, so that interested parties will only have to submit the complete documentation once they are awarded a subsidised housing unit”, concluded the government team.

The mayoress meets with neighbours of the racecourse
The residents of the area told the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata, their main requests
The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), announced on Tuesday 22nd that the Town Hall will soon put out to tender the conservation and maintenance service for the Sierra de Mijas. The mayoress made this announcement after a meeting with residents of the SUP C-24 sector, in the area of the Costa del Sol Racecourse, which was also attended by councillors Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP) and Juan José Torres Trella (PP), and in which they expressed their concern about the future of the plots

of land located in the Chaparral forest. “I am with them, we have to preserve as much as possible all the trees that we have in our municipality and we have shown this concern through the contract for the conservation and maintenance of our mountains, which will soon go out to tender”, said the mayoress, adding that “we will try to ensure that this area is as little affected as possible by the removal of trees and that its urban development can be planned without affecting the vegetation”.
At the meeting, held on the 17th of October, the neighbours
expressed their concern to Mata about the possible modifiction of the SUP C-24 reparcelling project, approved in plenary session in July 2021. According to them, the modification contemplates “the construction of four-storey buildings for a total of 654 homes, with the disappearance of a large amount of forest mass” said the president of the association Bosque El Chaparral de Mijas, Sergio Espinosa, in a statement sent to this media. At the meeting, Espinosa gave the mayoress a written document describing the forest in a technical way, the

urban development problem that, they say, threatens it and the possible solutions they propose to the Town Hall. “These are issues that were raised at the meeting, which we took note of and which we are already working on to solve”, said the mayoress. At the meeting, according to the president of the association, issues such as the request for more cleaning and clearing of the streets, the improvement of the bus service, more parking in the area, as well as improvements to the playground were also raised. In addition, the

residents asked for a change in the direction of the road under construction linking La Cala with the racecourse because, they argued, “there are three alternatives towards La Cala, but for the way back, the only way is to go along the motorway to the lighthouse and cross by dirt tracks or go to the castle area to take the road to the cemetery”.
With regard to this last question, Mata confirmed that, indeed, “there is a road that connects with La Cala, where in summer we have had two directions, but due to development issues in the area, a single direction has been determined” and, in this sense, she assured that “from the Town Hall

we are taking note trying to solve these day to day problems”. “Mijas has a problem of accessibility; we have little public transport service and there are areas that have been developed in which there is a lack of roads that allow access to the A-7”, she said, although she clarified that “in many cases these are infrastructures that we cannot build overnight because these are areas that are currently being developed and the development comes with this type of problem”. The mayoress, however, was optimistic in this regard and was confident that “over time these problems will dissipate because there are solutions and because the areas will be developed”. Finally, the mayoress said that “we will work along these lines, meeting with all those neighbourhood associations that are in areas yet to be developed and that will have to suffer at the beginning of this development” and stressed that “we are working so that as soon as possible there is an established normality and they can enjoy the area where they live”.

parades for the first time on the Costa del Sol
The Royal British Legion (RBL) chose the municipality of Mijas, specifically the town of La Cala, to parade for the first time on the Costa del Sol. It did so on Saturday, marching through the main streets of the seaside town, and as part of the events organised around the so-called Remembrance Day, also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day.
“This is the first time that the British Legion has come to Mijas and we are sure that it will not be the last”, said the councillor for Foreigners of Mijas Town Hall, Mario Bravo (PP), adding that “with these events, the British remember the end of the First World War, paying tribute to all the soldiers who fell in that war”.
“This is the first time ever that we’ve done a parade like this. We do it for Remembrance Sunday, which is in November. We do various events across the coast and also from Estepona all the way to the north of Spain. It’s all for the veterans”, said Matthew Jones, standard-bearer in the South Spain district. A member of Rotary Club Mijas International entertains ADIMI in his vegetable patch
C.A. In a day full of learning and friendliness, the Rotary Club Mijas, under the presidency of Katja Range, held a successful activity together with Adimi, the Mijas Association for People with Intellectual Disabilities.
Laura Villa, manager of Adimi, had previously shared with Katja how therapeutic these changes from the normal routine could be and the importance of offering outdoor activities to the users, so together they discussed ways in which Rotary could offer some of these activities to the association.
George Lumby, “an outstanding member of the club and passionate gardener”, they said from Rotary, offered his home as the setting for this inspiring collaboration.
Participants were fascinated to explore George’s garden, where they discovered a variety of fruits and vegetables at different stages of development, from aubergines to avocados. George shared his knowledge of plant care, highlighting the intriguing production of luffa sponges, which particularly captivated visitors.
The day ended with a banquet of tapas prepared by George’s wife Hortensia. The feast included delicacies such as boquerones (anchovies) and jamón serrano.
The event not only strengthened the ties between Rotary Club Mijas and Adimi, but they also agreed to collaborate in the development of the association’s vegetable garden, ensuring a future full of joint projects that will continue to benefit the local community.

The programme will begin at 10 hours with a series of talks in which experts and leaders in the field of fashion will address issues such as the impact of fashion on the economy, history and tradition, its evolution and new techniques through Artificial Intelligence or the importance of communication in this sector, among other aspects.
Petro Valverde , Fran Gallardo , Dione Pertegaz Ángel Sánchez Sirviente and Rosa Villacastín will be the participants in these round tables, as well as Raquel Pérez from the company ONVERSED.
At 12 hours the event will move to the outdoor patio of the theatre, where there will be a fashion show with young talents studying fashion in the province of Malaga, specifically at the Marbella Design Academy. Each one will present a design and a jury of experts will choose the winner, who will be able to enjoy practical training complementary to their studies with the designer Susana Zamora, a reference in flamenco and equestrian fashion.
The soprano Pilar Jurado and the singer Ana María Delgado from Málaga will perform at this event, which will be presented by Euprepio Padula . Admission will be free until full capacity is reached.

Talk for british people
October 30th
The event is organised by the Foreigners Department of the Mijas Town Hall in collaboration with British Lawyer Spain & Abogado en la Red. During the presentation of the event, the lawyer Jorge Postigo explained that “we have a British population in Mijas who could not get their TIE card and who are looking for different options to regularise and have legal documentation, so that they can enjoy what is on offer in Mijas, Malaga, Spain and throughout the country, which is why we are holding this talk to help them”. The event is open to all British residents but to attend it is necessary to register in advance on info@ britishlawyerspain.com or by calling 678 826 771.
