CELEBRATE THE TOURIST DAY

The Virgen de la Peña Square dresses up TO

The Tourism Department offered free sweet wine, paella and sangria to the attendees, who also enjoyed flamenco

Report by M.J. Gómez and A. Gómez

On Wednesday 25th, the Virgen de la Peña Square, in Mijas Pueblo, became the meeting point for the Tourist Day, a day with which the Mijas Town Hall, through the Tourism Department, thanked all those who this year have chosen the town to spend their holidays or rest days. “We have had thousands of visitors this summer in Mijas Pueblo and in the entire municipality and today was a celebration, a tribute to all those who have visited us”, explained the councillor for Tourism,, Francisco Jeréz (Vox), who valued the event positively: “The general impression is that those who have attended have enjoyed the moment, which is what this is all about”, concluded Jerez.

The party began after midday to the rhythm of flamenco when the Flamencópolis company took to the stage and delighted those present with live singing and dan-

cing. While they were performing, the tents set up were simmering paellas, which are so typical of our land; more than 400 servings were distributed free of charge among the attendees. Many were caught by surprise by this event, however, others attended intentionally, such as Maruja Campos, who accompanied by her husband, came from Malaga city on a a scheduled trip programmed on the occasion of the tourist day in Mijas.

Charo and her friend came from the neighbouring town, Fuengirola, and expressed how much fun they were having: “with the flamenco show and the paella they gave us, it is a wonderful day, phenomenal”.

September ordinary plenary session

Mijas regulates the administrative organisation of its Town Hall with a new Municipal Organic Regulation

Initial approval of the ROM and the Plenary, compulsory for municipalities with a large population

The Plenary approved on Wednesday 25th the draft of the Organic Municipal and Plenary Regulations (ROM). This is an essential tool which aims to regulate the political and administrative organisation of the Town Hall and its corporation, as well as the functioning of its governing and control bodies.

According to the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), “all municipalities with a large population, including ours since 2012, must have this tool, so it is an obligation that we had to face and that the comptroller has been requiring year after year”.

The text includes sections related to the political organisation of the corporation, establishing the duties, obligations and responsibilities of the councillors. For its drafting, the government team emphasised, contributions from all parties have been taken into account, such as that of Cs Mijas on the number of requests and questions that can be presented in the plenary session by each municipal group, depending on the number of councillors they have. “For minority groups of between one and three councillors, and also for nonattached councillors, we propose to allow a maximum of 8 questions. In the case of groups with 4 to 6 councillors, this would increase to 12 questions, and for groups with more than 6 councillors, a maximum of 16

questions would be allowed”, explained the spokesperson for Cs, José Carlos Martín

Likewise, in order to facilitate the development of plenary sessions, the regulations limit the speaking time of the councillors. In this respect, the socialist councillor Josele González assured that “when we were in the government team, we did not want to put a clock on the opposition,

All parties

except the PSOE voted in favour of the item

because we understood that it had to be done in a consensual way”.

In response, the councillor for Internal Regulations, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), “when drafting this ROM we have reviewed the regulations of other municipalities such as Fuengirola, Nerja and Málaga, and the times indicated are the same and, in some cases, even lower”. The mayoress also stressed that “this section does not seek to

restrict the freedom of expression of the opposition or to set clocks, it only adapts to what the regulations establish, but there will be exceptional cases such as the approval of the Budget in which there will be more time for debate”.

Municipal organisation

On the other hand, the ROM reflects the essential levels of the municipal organisation, defining the areas of government, their delegations, as well as new coordinations and general directorates. Regarding the creation of the figure of the director and general coordinator, the spokesman of the Municipal Socialist Group, Roy Pérez , finally and after the considerations of the opposition, the regulation determines that these positions can only be occupied by civil servants of level 1, “so we avoid handpicking, because from the PSOE we are not in favour of creating these political gravy trains, like the ones in the Malaga Town Hall and in the Junta, where the general directorates are occupied

by politicians”.

Finally, the document also includes new working bodies, including one on economic administrative complaints, which, according to a report by the Town Hall’s comptroller, Francisco Javier Pérez , will entail a cost that has not yet been budgeted for.

The ROM was initially approved by all parties, except the PSOE, which voted against it, considering that there are aspects of the ROM that have not been agreed and that it should begin to be applied in the next term of office. “It is clear that you have your own pace, different from this government team, which wants to work on today in order to make progress, always within the legal framework”, said Mata.

Change in the PP spokesperson

In other matters, during the plenary session it was announced that Daniel Gómez Teruel will no longer be spokesman for the Popular Municipal Group, replacing him as councillor Mario Bravo

“All municipalities declared to have a large population must have this tool, including ours since 2012, so it is an obligation that we had to face and that the comptroller has been requiring year after year”

“When drafting the ROM we have reviewed the regulations of other municipalities such as Fuengirola, Nerja and Malaga, and the times they indicate are the same and in some cases even lower”

USE AND MANAGEMENT OF Mijas awarded f the

This application allows citizens to report incidents to the local administration so that they can be resolved

Nuria Luque y Cristina Bejarano

Gecor, one of the leading applications that connects citizens with the public administration, awarded the Mijas Town Hall on Tuesday 24th for its management of the app.

Mijas has been using it for five years now and the Town Hall claims to have solved 90% of the incidents reported through this application.

The Greencities forum on urban sustainability hosted a debate on Gecor with the participation of mayors from different municipalities, including the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), to give their testimony on the benefits of this application,

which digitally connects municipalities with their citizens. Behind Gecor there is a great team that facilitates this communication that seeks to improve the municipalities. “It is a city application, an application that promotes sustainability, that promotes citizen participation and this is Greencities, so we could not miss it”, said José Nebro, founding partner of Gecor.

Mijas received recognition for the years that it has been using the application and for the results obtained. “In the fisrt nine months of this year the number of incidents reported through the Gecor application is 10,660 and in the five years that Mijas has been using the app, 55,000, which

inspectors and citizens, we channel everything through Gecor, we even carry out cleaning controls on companies through the application, as everything is recorded, schedules, days, everything”, said the councillor for street cleaning, Eloy Belmonte (Vox).

Also noteworthy are the noti-

ces regarding parks and gardens, street lighting, traffic and signposting and street furniture. “In these nine months of government we have been one of the departments which, thanks to the Gecor application, has provided the most responses to residents in the shortest time, the number of incidents that have been created in these nine months has exceeded 2,000 and more than 85 percent have been solved and the rest are being processed”, said the councillor for, among other areas, Operational Services and Parks and Gardens, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP).

The citizen satisfaction rating is 4.1 out of 5. Of the total number of notices registered so far this year, 74.62 percent have already been resolved. The Town Hall asks citizens to use this application so that they can participate in municipal management and, for its part, the Town Hall is committed to dealing with all requests that help to improve the town.

The Idiliq Foundation

celebrates years of existence 25

Around 250 people gathered on the evening of Thursday 19th September at the Wyndham resort to celebrate the anniversary of the organisation

One more year, the Idiliq Foundation held its traditional annual gala, but it did it with a double purpose, as this charity also celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, such a special event had to be celebrated in style.

Around 250 people gathered on Thursday 19th of September at the Safari restaurant in the Wyndham resort to highlight the charity’s work since 1999, which represents a quarter of a century working to ensure that society receives the support it needs.

“It is an honour to see all the friends of the foundation who love us and who have come to share such a special night with us”, said

the president of Idiliq, Juan Miguel Marcos, who also explained that “we have been doing social work for several decades, but it was 25 years ago when we decided that the best way to channel this work was through a foundation, and to see this now is a source of pride”.

Formerly called Fundación Sonrisa, the aim from day one has been to offer maximum support to groups and individuals in need on the Costa del Sol and Tenerife, which is why representatives of different associations and groups in the municipality such as Adimi, Afesol, Nueva Cultura del Desarrollo, and the Spanish Association Against Cancer, among others, attended the gala.

Likewise, the foundation was also supported by political representati-

ves such as the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP); the regional minister for Employment, Business and Self-Employment of the Junta de Andalucía, Rocío Blanco; the territorial delegate, Carmen Sánchez; members of the Mijas corporation, and members of other municipalities.

In addition to congratulating the foundation, the mayoress of the municipality wanted to dedicate a few words to them and stressed that they are “an example to be followed by all those companies that want to put their soul into it”, as well as recalling that they have “had the ability to create a family environment in which each one of us feels part of this place where very complicated situations are overcome”.

Officially inaugurated the

COSTA DEL SOL GLAMPING VILLAGE

The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata, attended the institutional act together with the president of the Provincial Government, Francisco Salado, and her counterpart in Fuengirola

A.G.S/N.L. On Thursday 26th, the official inauguration of the Costa del Sol Glamping Village took place with the traditional ribbon cutting by the authorities. The event was attended by local and regional figures, including the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), the president of the Málaga Provincial Government, Francisco Salado, and the mayoress of Fuengirola, Ana Mula. Also present were businessmen and executives from companies in the tourism sector.

The mayoress of Mijas wanted to highlight the importance that the opening of new establishments has for the development

of the tourism sector in the municipality, “giving many Mijeños the possibility to work” and valued the concept of sustainability and respect for the environment that the project has followed and that invites you to disconnect.

“The aim is to disconnect from all the stress we suffer, to enjoy ourselves with our family, with our couple, in an environment where they have taken care of all the trees that were originally here and in a very natural environment so that we can enjoy the need we have as human beings to find ourselves and enjoy ourselves, forgetting all the stress of everyday life”, said Mata.

THE FIRST PHASE OF THE EXPANSION OF THE Marbella desalination plant is completed

With the second phase, these facilities, which serve the Costa del Sol, will triple the production of desalinated water

The regional minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Developmen, Ramón FernándezPacheco, reported on Monday 23rd of September the completion of the first phase of the works to improve the Marbella desalination plant, which has gone from producing 6 to 12 cubic hectometres and which will triple its initial production reaching 20 hm3, foreseeably, in the first quarter of the year, once the second phase has been completed.

This was stated by FernándezPacheco, who visited the two emergency works at this plant, in the company of mayors of the Malaga coast, including the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), as well as representatives of the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol.

According to Fernández-Pacheco, on the one hand, an action is being carried out to recover the initial capacity of 20 hm3, with an investment of 4,353,351.39 euros, and, on the other hand, other works are being carried out to improve water quality, for 2,995,887.40

FOREIGNERS

euros. In this sense, the minister continued, the Andalusian Government decided to take on these works, which are the responsibility of the central government, to “help a region, the Costa del Sol, which triples its population in summer and which is an economic engine for the province of Malaga, for Andalusia and for Spain”.

Thus, after highlighting that the production that the desalination plant will reach represents between 15 and 20 percent of the needs of the Costa del Sol, the minister pointed out that the remodelling will not only satisfy the demands of this region in the face of the drought situation, but that, “in case of need and possible

surpluses, it will also allow resources to be transferred to the capital of Malaga, the Campo de Gibraltar and even to La Axarquía”.

For Fernández-Pacheco, desalination is one of the most satisfactory solutions to the lack of rainfall in a hydrological year that ends on the 30th of September and which has not been “good”. The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata, also referred to this aspect, adding that “we are facing a situation in which little rainfall is expected and we have to use all those possibilities in terms of water to guarantee the water supply throughout the Costa del Sol, which is constantly growing and with tourism as the main economic sector”.

Soroptimist International celebrates its traditional Summer Party

Ed. Dep. To express gratitude. That was the aim of the Summer Party, which once again this year was organised by the members of Soroptimist International Costa del Sol and held on Saturday 21st of September, coinciding with the International Day of Peace. This demonstration of gratitude, both to individuals and groups with whom the association works throughout the year, was attended by representatives of the Foreigners Department of Mijas, such as the councillor Mario Bravo (PP); also by the La Cala Lions Club, Avatés, Toastmasters, the Mijas Red Cross, NCD Association and Costa Women. In total, around forty people enjoyed the evening.

The president of Soroptimist, Daphne Theunissen, explained that “we have lit a candle for peace, which symbolises our commitment to build a more peaceful world for all, something, which is even more important nowadays with wars and problems far away and close to home”, she also pointed out that “we have to remember that, as a general rule, women and children suffer more during conflicts”. She

also wanted to thank “the members who helped organise the party and everyone for their continued support, for being part of this journey”. The attendees enjoyed a menu that was a culinary journey through different countries of the world.

SOLIDARITY

This autumn the solidarity tables are back in La Cala

C.Bejarano. After the summer break, this autumn the solidarity tables of the benevolent associations return to the Branch Office Square in La Cala to offer their products and information to visitors and neighbours.

This is an initiative of the Department of Foreigners of the Mijas Town Hall, with the collaboration of a dozen groups. But when is the next date? As always they will be the last Wednesday and Saturday of each month, from 11 to 14 hours.

SOLIDARITY

La Palma bar organises a solidarity lunch for Cudeca

M.J.G. The bar La Palma in Las Lagunas is organising for the second consecutive year a charity lunch in aid of the Cudeca Foundation. It will take place on Saturday 28th of September from 13:00 hours.

The lunch is organised with great enthusiasm by the family who run this establishment, as they have needed the services of the foundation, and want to continue to contribute their bit. Ruth González, one of the owners, said that “we wanted to do something charitable for Cudeca, and since we have a bar, what better than to prepare a lunch. Last year we collected 1,400 euros and this year we want to raise 3,000”. For her part, Dolores Antón, Ruth’s mother, said that “we are going to have homemade food, we will make a big paella, tapas... Don’t forget to participate in the raffle that we have with many prizes from local businesses that have collaborated.”

ANIMALS

On the other hand, they also took the opportunity to raise funds to help Soroptimist’s ongoing project in Venezuela entitled ‘Los buenos somos más’ (The good ones are more) to help pensioners in that country.

The Cudeca Foundation is grateful for the collaboration. On Thursday 26th the bar received a visit from Rafael Olaya, assistant manager of the foundation, who recalled that “we are dedicated to caring for patients at the end of their lives, and everything is always free of charge for both the patients and their families. We have subsidies, but for us, the most important thing is the support of our neighbours. We would like to sincerely thanked them for this event”.

Collaboration

For its part, the Town Hall is collaborating by providing street furniture, installing a small stage and promoting the event. The councillor for Social Inclusion, Melisa Ceballos (PP), congratulated the work of Cudeca. “They do an incredible job. But, above all, I want to thank the neighbours in particular, the bar La Palma for this great solidarity action”.

Animal lovers attend a charity lunch in aid of ACE Shin

ACE Shin. Around 70 people attended the charity lunch for dog shelter, which took place at Restaurante La Sierra on the 21st of September.

Beginning with a welcome drink, a delicious 3-course lunch and live entertainment, the event raised 2,100 euros to help feed and look after the over 700 animals currently in the care of the shelter.

The afternoon also featured a charity raffle with prizes donated by members of the local community and ACE supporters. All in

attendance unanimously agreed it was a highly enjoyable afternoon. However, people still leave their animals at the shelter almost on a daily basis, and there is shortage of volunteers, so help of every kind is fundamental to ACE Shin Dog Shelter which, since 1999 has saved and rehomed more than 30,000 dogs and cats and relies solely on donations. Any and all support is always appreciated, so, whether you can donate food, your time, foster, sponsor or adopt an animal, this cause is in need of your help.
