BEGINNING

MIGATO WAS FOUNDED IN 1983, IN THE HIGH POINT OF THE 80’S FASHION . TODAY, IT IS A LEADING PLAYER IN THE INDUSTRY, WITH MORE THAN 60 MIGATO STORES AND STRONG WHOLESALE PRESENCE INTERNATIONALLY. IN THE BEGINNING, IT WAS ONLY ABOUT TWO PEOPLE AND ONE BIG DREAM…

“ ” is the original identity letter from the initial letter of MIGATO logo. The font style is influenced by the ancient Greek architectural symmetries, with clean shapes and geometrical, minimalistic, modern references. With a contemporary eye on the future, but deep rooted in its universal Greek heritage.

The company’s brand name, MIGATO, was created in 1983 through the combination of the two founders’ names. “Mi” for Maria and “Gato”, from the last name of Panagiotis Gatos. Talking about a winning combination, this was a jackpot.

THE JOURNEY OF MIGATO IS THE JOURNEY OF TWO PEOPLE WHO HAD A SMART BUSINESS IDEA AND A LOT OF PASSION TO REACH ITS FULL POTENTIAL. IT WAS ABOUT AN IDEA THAT BECAME A COMPLETE, SUCCESS STORY.

The MIGATO company, started in the early 1980s, when its two founders, Panagiotis and Maria Gatos started fulfilling their business dream together, armed with a clear vision and a realistic strategy.

Somewhere around 1981, Panagiotis Gatos, majoring in Accounting, finished his studies in San Antonio, Texas.

Right after his graduation, he was offered the position of Assistant Operational Manager in

the sportswear wholesaler EXIM Industries Corporation, in Texas.

Panagiotis took an active role in the business trips that were part of his job, visiting factories in Asia and taking part in international trade shows, without ever forgetting to regularly visit his origin, Greece.

In one of these trips, he met his later wife and business partner Maria Zacharaki and together started a new business.

Panagiotis’ 7 year professional activity in the United States, combined with Maria’s work ethic, were the foundation for their venture, which in 1983 led to the birth of their company MIGATO operating by specializing in comfortable, fashionable shoes and accessories. They started by importing products from Taiwan, which they then distributed as wholesalers all over Greece.

During one of their trips abroad in search of new products, they spotted some colorful and unique-looking slippers, unlike those available in Greece at the time. Thrilled with the vivacity of the designs, they took the bold step of importing them into the Greek market. This new collection quickly became the successful benchmark in their career. However, these young, talented founders had even greater ambitions. By 1987 they decided to expand their business and make a dynamic break in the world of

fashion. After carefully researching the demands of their local Greek market and while they paid frequent visits to footwear-related trade shows in Europe and Asia, they created their first complete MIGATO footwear collection. This new range of products was an instant hit and initiated a brand new chapter for their company. Gradually, these trademark cool slippers became a subsidiary part of MIGATO collections, while their fashion styled shoes came to play the leading part.

In 1989, Panagiotis and Maria Gatos opened their first store, with a varied selection of shoes and accessories. Thanks to the detailed range of high quality products, great customer service and affordable prices, their trip to a global success was already well under way.

MIGATO’s story proves that with clear focus, genuine determination and really hard work, dreams really do come true and serve as a major point of inspiration, for generations to come.

If we had to boil down our work to three notions, these would be: staying up-to-date, being meticulously organized and always staying creative.

For the women’s and the men’s footwear collections, as well as the accessories multiple lines, we operate along two main principles: There is always a main line in each product category, which covers the core commercial interest of the season, but it is also essential to enrich our collections regularly with flash collections.

Both lines give us the advantage of constant renewal, thus always keeping our customers interested and excited about our brand.
