What impact are you wanting to have on women and birthing people? What are one or two aspects of your experience, or characteristics, that will help you achieve this?
(Come back to this question at the end if it’s too hard).
Fill in this sentence. I understand midwifery to be…
(Everyone remembers the empowerment, informed choice and the safeguarding aspects of midwifery. Hardly anyone mentions the clinical skills, things that you will train to do. Look at the Lancet definition of midwifery. Think about the things that midwives do with their hands: fundal height/palpate/auscultate a fetal heart/take bloods/baby examinations/breast/chestfeeding support. Choose one thing you would like to learn how to do and mention it.)
If you have had a professional career, describe it briefly, along with one characteristic you developed from this work that you think will be helpful in midwifery. If you have not had a professional career, describe one characteristic you know to be true about yourself, i.e. something that all your friends would say was true.
