Sharon Durall, an 8th grade teacher at Magnolia Learning Center (MLC) was named Mountain View School District’s (MVSD) 2014-15 Teacher of the Year. Durall is a loving, caring, dedicated, and genuine educator who provides tremendous support to her students. She has been a valued member of the MVSD team for 12 years and in addition to teaching at MLC she has served as a Literacy Coach at Kranz Intermediate School. Known for her tireless efforts, Durall acquired the nickname Ms. “Do-All” because of her willingness to help others. She carries a happy spirit and is always professional and kind to everyone she meets. MLC is the District’s alternative education program serving students in 5th through 8th grade. MLC’s goal is to assist students in the progress and improvement of academics and social skills, which may allow them to return to their regular school
setting. As a teacher at MLC, Durall has had challenging times when students have gone into crisis, but her ability to trouble shoot and help them get to a place of resolve through her unconditional love and her strong belief in them has made a tremendous impact on the students and families she serves. She is a valuable asset to MLC, the Mountain View School District and El Monte community. “It is a pleasure and honor to be selected as Mountain View School District’s Teacher of the Year. I am both humbled and honored to be given such noble recognition and represent the fine educators in Mountain View,” said Durall. As an educator, Durall believes every child has the potential to learn when given the appropriate materials and tools for success. She knows some children need different tools, but regardless of the need every child needs unconditional love
