was made at a special City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 26. After the special meeting no details were released, as to the departure of the previous City Manger at this time. “El Monte is a city that is rich with family-oriented tradition, steeped in community pride, and is experiencing an unprecedented amount of development investment,” Gomez said. “I look forward to continuing to implement the Council’s vision for El Monte, working closely with the community to ensure El Monte continues to thrive.” “Mr. Gomez has been leading our successful efforts to attract quality community and business developments to our City,” said Mayor Pro Tem Bart Patel. “With Jesus at the helm, we

have seen massive improvements in our economic development, creating a more stable budget and improving the quality of life for our residents. We have no doubt that the City will be in good hands with him serving as El Monte’s City Manager.” Gomez has served the El Monte community since November 2009, and was appointed to the position of Assistant City Manager in 2010. Under his oversight of the City’s economic development plan, El Monte has been able to attract more than $800 million in new development projects, investments that include a new Hilton Garden Inn hotel, the Santa Fe Trail Plaza retail center, the Garvey Square mixed-use development, and the Gateway Project, a 14acre mixed-use development adjacent to the El Monte

by Michele Earle El Monte

Thanks to a great partnership between the Mountain View School District (MVSD) and the Youth Science Center, 90 GATE (Gifted And Talented Education) students in third through eighth grade from MVSD spent four Saturdays engaged in art, science and engineering during the District’s annual Spring GATE Institute. MVSD was happy to provide the educational enrichment for the students who were excited to enhance their skills and showcase their passion for learning. Through the Youth Science Center, staff members from Eco Voices, under the direction of Dr. Richard Shope, a professor at U.C. Irvine and research consultant for JPL, led the classes as students’ explored Reverse Engineering and Microbiology.

Students wanting to explore their artistic side participated in an Art class with

local renowned artist and MVSD employee, Dolores Haro, who taught “Prin-
