Temple City Unified School District Teachers of the Year

Temple City Unified School District’s 2016-2017 Teachers of the Year were introduced at the May 11, 2016 Board of Education Meeting.

Cloverly Elementary School celebrates fourth grade instructor, Sherry Boyd, as its teacher of the year.

Emperor Elementary School honors third grade teacher, Nina Haynes.

Second grade instructor, Julie Ann Kramer, is La Rosa Elementary School’s teacher of the year.

Longden Elementary School celebrates kindergarten instructor, Karin Stewart.

Oak Avenue Intermediate School recognizes Orchestra teacher, Richard Meyer, as its top teacher.

Mr. Meyer also teaches orchestra at Cloverly, Emperor, and Longden Elementary Schools.

Rep. Napolitano Honors 2016 “Unsung Heroines” Women of the Year

Today, Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano (CA32), honored the 2016 “Unsung Heroines,” Women of the Year for exemplary service at an awards ceremony at the Grace T. Black Auditorium in El Monte.

“It just gives me great pleasure to recognize some of the many women who are not normally recognized,” Napolitano said. “You do not seek recognition and do not ask for it. Some of you never tell anybody you are doing things, you just do them.

The fact is without the work you do in the community, it would be very hard for our cities, schools, churches, nonprofits, and other organizations to be able to carry out the programs they do, and we are so grateful for all your selfless acts of service.”

23 women received the award. Each woman’s name was submitted by her volunteer organization or community group that felt her contributions deserved special

recognition. Napolitano gave out the awards and thanked the women personally.

“I have enjoyed very much what I do, and I like giving back to the community because I have gotten a lot of good from the community,” said Barbara Fess of the City of La Puente.

“Always remember that there are other people out there who need your help and if you are able to give it, you should.”

“Joyce and I have been doing this for 73 years together friends,” said Sharon Lewis of herself and fellow honoree, Joyce Dill of Citrus College. “I think we have always been volunteers, since we were kids. We were doing things when we were in school, being involved in the government in high school, and here we are now.

We just keep moving and doing more.”

“Operation Cookie” began during WWII and shipped cookies to the men at war.

“Operation Cookie” no longer ships cookies to war zones, but now provides cookies to hospitalized and homeless veterans. Each year, the Wednesday before Memorial Day, donors deliver thousands of cookies of all sizes and kinds to the Women’s Club of South Pasadena, to the clubhouse, where members and community volunteers repackage them into decorative containers with a colorful salute to veterans. The cookies are then delivered to the Long Beach, Sepulveda-North Hills and Loma Linda VA health care facilities (spinal cord injury, General and Post surgery, Nursing and Convalescent care and PTSD facilities; Hospice Care Unit and Senior Day Care Centers) and to homeless veterans served by the Cabrillo Center in Long Beach and by the VA Clinic in downtown Los Angeles.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of donors, “Operation Cookie” expanded its outreach in 2013 to include the Wounded Warriors Battalion at Camp Pendleton through the Jimmy Miller Foundation in Manhattan Beach, which provides veterans with Ocean Therapy and an opportunity to learn to surf in a supportive environment. Cookies are also distributed to veterans attending Memorial events at South Pasadena’s War Memorial Building and at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Pasadena. Cookie donations have also provided enough cookies to deliver to the Ontario Airport USO for arriving troops. If you would like to donate cookies, you may bring to the clubhouse, at 1424 Fremont Avenue (across the street from the South Pasadena High School) between the hours of 7:00 AM and 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, May 25th. Or you may drop them off the evening before, Tuesday, May 24th between 4pm and 7pm. Convenient curbside service is available both days. You are also welcome if you would like to help pack. The film also features local Congresswoman Grace Napolitano, member of the House Committee on Water and Power, who has worked tirelessly to solve the West’s, and in particular the San Gabriel Valley, water crises.

My favorite memory from 1966, I’d like to share; When it comes to alcoholism, I’m very much aware.

I’m proud to say it was May 24, 1966 I had my last drink; A wise Judge said, “Not Jail, it’s A.A. for you I think”.

I never knew anything about A.A., I didn’t belong; It was three months before I sang a different song.

Sure I drank alcohol, I believe almost everybody did; After all, I started drinking beer when I was just a kid.

Being an outside salesman, I took customers to lunch; of course, we drank but an alcoholic never a hunch.

I must admit I did drive drunk, while out of my mind; Stopped 4, arrested twice, didn’t think of it as a crime.

I know there is really nobody that I can blame; I can thank God for A.A., and in my life a big change.

As a teenager I was drinking and smoking being cool; I finally learned the hard way, that I was a stupid fool.

It starts so innocent, and the devil got me by my tail; I’m sure he was laughing as I was hauled off to jail.

I was 38 when the judge sent me to the program of A.A.; I’ve never been happier and this is where I’ll stay.

From 1971, Memorial Day Holiday has been officially observed on the last Monday in May. Many honor Memorial Day by attending a community event of remembrance, while many visit cemeteries. The three day weekend gives many the opportunity for a short vacation or to attend sport events and family gatherings. This day is traditionally seen as the start of the summer season.

The Arboretum District Annual Luncheon was held in the Sunset Room of the Santa Anita Golf Course in Arcadia. In keeping with the Patriotic Theme, the tables were decorated with red, white and blue flowers. Members were given a chance for early plant shopping when the doors opened at 10:30 AM. Tables filled with “white elephants” gave further shopping fun, where many found that someone’s junk, can become someone else’s treasure. Arboretum District Director Emily Wisneski brought the meeting to order and made introductions. What a delicious luncheon. The Program Speaker was Mr. Jeff Fleury of the Monrovia Growers Company. A very interesting and informative program about how the Monrovia Growers Company began and the way it is run. Mr. Fleury also described many of the plants the nursery grows. Drawings for 25 lovely plants, brought in by Mr. Fleury from the Monrovia Nursery, were then won by 25 lucky attendees.

Everyone was presented a small keepsake gift when they registered in the morning. Either a bright blue box or a red gift bag with a California Poppy Bookmark, small bags of flower seeds and garden shears.

The Arboretum District of California Garden Clubs, Inc. is part of the Pacific Region Garden Clubs and the National Garden Clubs, Inc. The Arboretum District is composed of ten local clubs and society. It is one of the 28 districts of California Garden Clubs, Inc. (CGCI).

The Arboretum District of Garden Clubs, Inc. meets three times a year. The next meeting will be held on Monday, June 27th. Reservations are not required and guests are always welcome.

Girls State Teaches Pink Day Observed Throughout Politics to South El SEMHS Monte Students

Last year in October, during Breast Cancer Awareness month, South El Monte High School had its annual Pink Day. Students were able to show their awareness and support towards breast cancer by wearing pink.

Benjamin Hernandez, one of the many students that showed their awareness stated, “What this day means is to let people know about breast cancer but to raise awareness about all cancers.”

Breast cancer is a very common thing, with more than 3 million cases per year. This malignant cancer forms in the cells of the breasts. Although this disease occurs almost entirely in woman, men can get it as

well.

The Associated Student Body, decorated the school during the week of Pink Day with posters that were informative and supportive.

ASB students fundraised by selling Pink Ribbon t-shirts and raised about $3,600 dollars, which will be going towards the Liz San Roman Pink Ribbon Scholarship.

Thanks to this scholarship, a South El Monte High School senior will be able to continue their education at a four-year college or university.

“Over the past seven years with the Pink Ribbon scholarship, I’ve been able to distribute over $15,000 to SEMHS seniors,” stated

Mr. Escamilla, the person responsible for this amazing event.

For many people, Pink Day is a very special day, but not as much as it is for Mr. Escamilla. It reminds him of the strongest woman he has ever known: his sister.

“Pink Day is a very special day for me because it reminds me of my sister, who passed away from breast cancer,” he said. “She was the bravest, most courageous person I’ve ever known in my whole life...I wanted to promote breast cancer awareness in her memory, and give out a scholarship to keep her memory alive.”

Recently, junior female students from South El Monte High School were nominated to participate in Girls State, a nonpartisan program sponsored by the American League Auxiliary.

But what exactly is Girls State? This is a leadership program that chooses 500 delegates from different schools all throughout California to participate in a weeklong trip during the summer in Ontario from June 27 to July 4 to learn about the structure and responsibilities of the state government, and as the official website states, “more about themselves.”

More so, this program helps bring awareness and knowledge about our government including its duties, privileges, and the rights and responsibilities of a citizen.

Gong Show Fun Returns to Rosemead High School

After an eight-year absence, Rosemead High School has brought back the Gong Show.

Students, alumni and friends were eager to fill the school’s auditorium for the event.

This was not quite a talent show, but similar to it, in that performers have the opportunity to present themselves in front of three judges and an audience of people holding a “GONG” sign.

The audience, plus the judges, got to decide whether or not that person could complete their performance, and if they managed to make it to the end, they were given a score by the judges.

The show began with juniors Danny Avila and Kelsey Trinh performing a “wrapping” act.

The crowd was a mixture of confused and amused and in a quick minute, they opted to

have them off the stage.

Later, seniors Amber Gonzales and Isa Castillo and their Zumba Squad filled the stage with fitness moves. They even got one of the judges, Mr. Burgess, to join them. Burgess ended up giving the squad a 2, as he believed he pulled a hamstring.

One of the more interesting performances was senior Thet Than, who offered tribute to singer David Bowie.

The first performance to get the crowd very amped up was junior Frances Guzman, who was able to get through her full song and won over the judges with a 9 from each, earning a third-place finish.

Reana Gonzales had a crowd-winning performance also, as she sang “This is Me”

by Demi Lovato. She placed second overall with 29 points,

despite a few false starts.

Alumnus Jesse Moreno was the show’s big winner. He went

est in politics. Our school is fortunate to have a chosen delegate that will participate in the program, Hannah Morales, while also having two alternates for this program who are Samantha Ramirez and Emily Doan.

During the week trip, delegates attend sessions and participate in various activities that teach them the leadership skills needed in community and government.

“It mainly gets you to be really politically involved and informed” explains alternate Samantha Valdez.

Activities at Girls State include forming a government, electing government officials, participating in choosing a political party and participating in the usual duties of citizenship such as publishing a daily article, organizing community events, etc.

For the selected delegate, Hannah Morales, she was “surprised because there were a lot of great candidates...I could hear their answers to the interview questions and then I would start to think that my answers were not as great or relevant.”

She admits she does not exactly know what she’s getting herself into. “I am also nervous and anxious, but overall honored and excited.”

‘Time Jockey’ TCHS Presents Brighter Side Memorial Honor

Reyner Aguirre Post 748 …. On July 12, 1947, a group of World War II veterans got together to start-up a new American Legion Post in San Gabriel. The veterans named the post Reyner Aguirre after their friend who was killed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7th, 1941 while stationed aboard the U.S.S. Arizona.

After being inducted on August 30, 1941, Aguirre was assigned to the U.S.S. Arizona stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He earned the rank of Seaman Second Class in the Navy and was onboard the Arizona when it was bomber by Japanese planes. 1,177 Navy and Marines servicemen died aboard the Arizona on the morning of December 7th and only 355 crewmen survived. Among the casualties were the 22 members of the Arizona Band which was also known as the Navy Band who were on deck practicing for the flag ceremony taking place later that morning. A permanent war memorial was established in 1949 but legislature was not signed until 1958, when President Eisenhower authorized the site as a national landmark.

Funds were needed to finance the building of the memorial and requests to public and private donors were initiated. One of the biggest contributions was provided by Elvis Presley who agreed to perform a concert at Pearl Harbor and donate the proceeds to the memorial fund. The concert raised $50,000 which was 10% of the overall cost for the memorial. A few weeks ago I reported that a group 15 veterans signed up to become charter members of the newly installed American Legion post, however the actual number was 53 as indicated by the original charter on display at the San Gabriel Historical Museum. In honor of Memorial Day, here is the list of charter members of Reyner Aguirre Post #748 as signed in July 1947. These men served their country during World War II and honored one of their own brothers who paid the ultimate price of freedom with his life. Don Bosco Technical Institute’s (Bosco Tech) Symphonic Band earned highest honors at the WorldStrides Heritage Performance Music Festival in Seattle, WA, on April 8, 2016. This year, the annual competition featured 13 high school bands, orchestra and choirs from across the U.S. In addition to earning a gold rating and first place ranking based on the critique of festival judges, the band also earned the Outstanding Instrumental Ensemble Award for the highest total score in the instrumental music category and the Ovation Award, awarded to senior Elias Hosseini, which recognizes one student at

each festival who represents that spirit of determination, inspiration and service to others that exists in all of us.

“The Symphonic Band worked extremely hard and spent a great deal of time rehearsing and this award is just a reflection of what our students do ninety percent of the time.” said Daniel Almanza, Bosco Tech’s Music Program Director. “Their dedication was evident to the festival judges who awarded them highest honors. We’re extremely proud of each of these young men.”

Celebrating its sixtieth year, Bosco Tech is an allmale Catholic high school that combines a rigorous college-preparatory program

with a technology-focused education, which includes the arts. With a 100 percent college acceptance rate each year, more than 60 percent of Bosco Tech graduates pursue STEM-related majors in their university studies.

The innovative curriculum allows students to exceed university admission requirements while completing extensive integrated coursework in one of several applied science and engineering fields. The El Monte Rosemead Adult School will be hosting its annual High School Diploma Graduation Ceremony on June 8, 2016. The ceremony will be held at the Rosemead High School Auditorium at 7 p.m.

EMRAS provides a second chance in life. This formal ceremony validates the struggles and sacrifices endured during the difficult task of returning to school.

For some who may have a foreign high school diploma, this ceremony represents a major step forward in their pursuit of the American Dream.

Approximately 300 students will receive their

high school diploma from EMRAS this year. This ceremony will be attended by over 1000 guests that have the opportunity to see their loved ones walk across the stage in cap and gown and be honored by their teachers, district administration, and board members.

During the ceremony, some students will be inducted to the National Adult Education Honor Society, while some will receive scholarships to help in their pursuit of higher education. Also, two members of the graduating class will address their classmates and share their inspirational stories.

There’s nothing that can really be done. There’s no perfect system but it is still heartbreaking to see a softball team like Arroyo have such a great season and then get crushed in the first round of the playoffs.

La Quinta comes from an area that is strong in softball up and down. Outside of South El Monte, the Lady Knights have hardly any other competition once Mission Valley League play starts.

So when the post-season comes, Arroyo and La Quinta who share similar enrollments get matched up in the first round. This kind of thing has been going on for years, you don’t like it, but no one seems to have a solution. ***Is it just me or do the

MacKinnon and the powerhouse Arroyo foot-ball teams of the 1980’s, became a respected assistant coach, and with things in crisis back in 2002, he stepped in to be the head coach at El Monte.

That 2002 season wasn’t a successful one for the Lions but Martinez made an impres-sion. He might have been a candidate for the job on a permanent basis but the school was looking for an on-campus coach. They found one in Joel Sanchez, who served 13 seasons.

Very happy for Martinez and we wish him nothing but the best.

Softball Playoff Scoreboard The Mid Valley News follows the action of twenty different high schools in its coverage zone. That means it tracks 20 softball programs. Of those twenty, ten qualified for the playoffs. Of those ten that qualified, zero now remain after the first round of CIF action. The rough week began with Temple City dropping a heartbreaker in extra-innings and culminated with local powerhouse Arroyo—riding a 15-game winnings streak—falling 11-0 at home on Thursday to La Quinta.

2016 NFL Draft: SU’A Cravens Road to the NFL

Su’a Cravens made plenty of plays for USC laying hard hits from the linebacker and safety spots. He did that and a whole lot more during his time at Vista Murrieta (Murrieta, Calif.), and MaxPreps took notice.

Cravens was a two-time first team honoree on the MaxPreps All-American Team (his junior and senior

seasons) and was also a second team sophomore all-American. He evolved each season, finding new ways to help his team consistently remain among the top squads in all of Southern California.

He already had offers from UCLA and Hawaii as a sophomore, but chose downtown Los Angeles, where he earned freshman allAmerican honors then third team all-American honors as

Cravens finished high school at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, and he has put on roughly another 20 pounds as he seeks NFL stardom.

We’re going to miss Joe Scherf at Azusa. The Azusa football team is going to miss Joe Scherf at Azusa.

Scherf was always a humble guy as he continually gave credit to his players instead of taking it himself.

Scherf didn’t say a whole lot making what he did say that much more important. He was a great interview giving you the basics on how or why his team performed as they did. He would cut through a lot of the bull and simply you give you the meat and potatoes. He was always a class act and was willing to talk regardless of whether the Aztecs won or lost. And during Scherf’s run as head coach, there was a whole lot of winning.

Did you know that when Scherf first took over at Azusa, the Aztecs won 20 straight Montview League games from 2008 until September 28, 2012?

That’s four years! Duarte beat Azusa that night 40-14 in what was Scherf’s first league loss as head coach.

It was a remarkable run rarely seen these days in high school football.

He had an overall record of 64-28 during his eightyear stint missing the playoffs only once during that span. I don’t know all the details as to why Scherf stepped down but considering its late May, I’m sure he has a good reason.

Azusa now has a big pair of shoes to fill. It’s not going to be easy replacing a guy like Joe Scherf. A few years ago during Azusa’s league winning streak I asked Scherf if he would come on the Mid Valley Sports Show – a show that we did live on the internet every Tuesday night.

In typical Scherf fashion he looked at me and said “No, I don’t want to go on TV. I just want to coach.”

Yes, you did coach. And did an excellent job for the last eight years. Good luck in all of your future endeavors. **Congratulations to Leuzinger who won the Charter Oak Tournament Saturday with a win over Upland. Great tournament, great athletes.

He is officially the DC. “With Eric Martinez leaving to take over at Diamond Ranch they asked me to become the DC,” Thomas said. “I was ‘like with all of those athletes?’ Sure.” **After speaking with Buena Park head coach Anthony White, Buena Park offensive coordinator Jude Oliva and La Mirada Media Marketing guy Jim Phillips, we determined that Buena Park and La Mirada are the two most hated programs in the area. So what would be better than a non-league match-up between the two?

This is a really solid second-round pick.” -- Mike Mayock Cravens’ extended family has several NFL ties, including cousin Jordan Cameron (former USC and current Miami Dolphins tight end), distant cousin Manti Te’o (Notre Dame/San Diego Chargers linebacker) and his mother’s second cousin David Fulcher (former Arizona State and Cincinnati Bengals safety). While those genes portend great athleticism, Cravens made his own name as the USA Today National High School Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 (97 tackles, eight sacks, three INT). He graduated from Vista Murrieta High a semester early to join USC for 2013, securing a starting spot at strong safety the following fall despite injuring his knee in the spring. Cravens made various Freshman All-American teams as well as honorable mention All-Pac-12 notice (52 tackles, four interceptions). He moved to a safety/linebacker hybrid role as a sophomore (a change he strongly resisted at first), leading the team with 17 tackles for loss (five sacks) and three intercep-

tions to earn third team AP All-American and first-team All-Pac-12 accolades. Cravens repeated those honors in 2015, topping all Trojan defenders with 86 tackles, 15 for loss, and 5.5 sacks and once again showing his overall game by intercepting two passes and breaking up two others.

Paul Kosanovich went four innings and Tyler Hazlet worked the final three as Temple City knocked off Mary Star of the Sea 5-2 Wednesday at home in the CIF Division 5 Wild Card game.

Hazlet helped himself as well with a two run double in the fifth inning to ice it.

The Rams had a good day at the plate as Ryan Lewis had three hits, and Luke Halverson had two.

Justin Bowman scored the go ahead run before Hazlet capped it off with the twobagger.

Next up for the Rams is a trip out to Capistrano Valley Christian on Friday.

The Rose, is a new concert venue in the City of Pasadena. It is owned by the same company that owns and runs the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills & the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills. It is a wonderful facility to enjoy a night of music and dancing with dinner and drinks if you prefer (reservations are recommended).

Although it’s a hard pill to swallow when PBR & Miller Lite is almost $10 a can, the facility is state of the art. Great sound with a bit of an over emphasis and use of L.E.D. lights, but that is a small critique in an otherwise great music

hall. Friday night showcased a tribute band triple header featuring Generation Idol – A Tribute to Billy Idol, Queen Nation – A Tribute to the Music of Queen & DSB – A tribute to Journey. Three

first rate first class bands that travel the country as well as internationally.

Sony’s new phone is here and its part of its Xperia Series, and it’s in a new line up called X. The Xperia X is very powerful and has some impressive features.

The phone has a 23-megapixel camera with 1080P, 60 frames video. The front facing camera has an amazing 13-megapixel camera that is also 1080P, with 60 frames. This camera has the best front facing camera in the market. This might make some teenagers buy this phone. Most cameras today have only a 5 megapixel camera.

Xperia X features a 32GB of space with an expandable microSD slot for more space. The Xperia also features a fancy 3GB Ram, allowing your programs to run with no lag. The processor is a Hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650. This is an android and they do need power to perform well. iOS devices use less power and memory and that is why they carry less. The Xperia X features some new LTE technology called Cat.6, which allows for a better download speed, once the

networks utilize it.

One feature that rivals Apple, is their audio capabilities. Xperia X has an active noise cancellation mic that helps reduce recording volume for concerts and any scenario. It also records in 192kHz audio so its more clearer and sharper then before.

So now the bad stuff. The Xperia X does not feature 4k video recording. All the new phones are adding it and if this phone is supposed to be the flagship phone for Sony, it should have it as well. They also removed their waterproofing abilities their previous phones had before. It is lacking in new tech but bring some power in its place. But many users will enjoy the front facing 13 Megapixel camera.

Exaggerator Finally Wins Against Nyquist

Leading up to Saturday’s Preakness Stakes in Maryland, the talk had been about a rivalry between undefeated, Kentucky Derby-winner Nyquist and Exaggerator.

The three-year-old thoroughbreds had previously competed against each other four times, with Nyquist always the victor. Both are based at Santa Anita and the horses’ training teams tried to downplay the rivalry theme.

The two horses have very different racing styles. Ny-

quist likes to sit just off the lead, making a strong push in the final stretch for home.

Exaggerator prefers to stalk the pace near the back of the field, starting his move at the final turn. On Saturday, Exaggerator followed his usual pattern; Nyquist did not.

finally to sloppy.

Undefeated Nyquist appeared calm before the race but hesitated slightly before entering the gate. When the race started, Nyquist took off and jockey Mario Gutierrez let him stay at the front between Uncle Lino and Awesome Speed, two horses known for liking to take the lead. Jockey Kent Desormeaux immediately took Exaggerator to the rail, keeping him in eighth place while Nyquist and Uncle Lino battled at the fastest pace ever set for the first quarter mile of the Preakness.

At the final turn, Exaggerator swung out and around to pass Nyquist and Uncle Lino and then headed back to the rail. Gutierrez switched Nyquist to the outside, hoping to catch Exaggerator, but it wasn’t meant to be. A mud-splattered Exaggerator won by 3 ½ lengths. Dale Romans’ Cherry Wine, who had been next to last most of the race, edged Nyquist by a nose to

take second.

The weather seemed to play a role in the Preakness’ outcome. Nyquist had won his last two races (the Florida Derby and the Kentucky Derby) on wet tracks.

But, Saturday’s track wasn’t just wet; it was sloppy.

Exaggerator seems to favor soaked tracks. He came from next to last to win April 9’s Santa Anita Derby over a sloppy track. On Saturday, Exaggerator put in a similar performance.

Jockey Kent Desormeaux called his third Preakness victory an “amazing trip.”

He and older brother Keith,

who trains Exaggerator, have different personal styles but have teamed to make Exaggerator a strong competitor. Nyquist’s trainer Doug O’Neill graciously congratulated Team Exaggerator. Next on the agenda for both horses- June 11’s Belmont Stakes.

Other racing news: Second place finisher Cherry Wine’s trainer Dale Romans had a good weekend. He saddled the first and second place finishers in the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, the filly equivalent of the Preakness.

The judge later orders him into anger management class, where he meets fellow misfits Chuck, voiced

by Josh Gad (Frozen) and Bomb voiced by Danny McBride (East Bound and Down.) Red becomes even more agitated when his feathered brethren welcome green pigs to their island paradise. As the swine begin to get under his skin, Red joins forces with Chuck and Bomb to uncover the real reason behind their arrival.

“Angry Birds” is produced by Sony Animation but not animated by them.

The film is actually animated by Rovio Entertainment, the company that makes the app of “Angry Birds.” Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly direct “Angry Birds.” They both are first time directors before they were animators for major films like “Frozen” and “Hotel Transylvania.” Jon Vitti wrote the script and he has full experience in TV shows and in films. The voice actors for “Angry Birds” also includes Bill Hader playing the pig Leonard, Maya Rudolph, Peter Dinklage, Sean Penn, and many more voices.

The film is a children’s movie but it does feature much adult humor. The kids won’t get the jokes but the adults will, and it might raise questions that you don’t want your child asking. The story is missing some things it needs to

discuss, but avoids it with jokes. The jokes are funny and I like them. I’ve played the App on my iPhone and it does reference the game a lot. It’s not the best kid’s movie out now. Grade C+ Rated PG
