The issue of bullying is now even more widespread than ever due to the Internet, which has spawned a new form of bullying called “cyberbullying.” However, the Internet has also allowed bully victims to find their own support groups and communities to turn to for comfort. MedicineNet.com defines bullying as “physical or verbal aggression that is repeated over a period of time and involves an imbalance of power.” The fact the bullying has a page on a medical website indicates some level of danger to being a victim of abuse at the hands of one’s peers. Lancet Psychiatry researchers found out adolescents bullied by their peers suffer greater health problems than those abused by their par-
ents. Furthermore, children who suffer from bullying run the risk of developing depression and anxiety, which can lead to self-harm and even suicide later in life. Bullying is also fairly prevalent. According to a 2013 survey done by the National Center for Educational Statistics, one in three students have reported on being bullied. In a 2014 survey by The Center for Disease and Control, 19.6% of U.S. high school students reported being bullied. Furthermore, there is an even greater number who do not report being bullied according to a 2010 study by the Institute of Education Sciences. Unfortunately, students can now become victims of bullying from anywhere,

San Gabriel Mission High School Announces New Principal by Staff Writer San Gabriel
San Gabriel Mission High School is pleased to announce that their new principal has been named. After a nationwide search, Father Tony Diaz, Pastor of San Gabriel Mission, announced the appointment of Ms. Marielle Sallo as principal effective July, 2015. Ms. Sallo is not a new face on campus as she has been with Mission since 2008. During that time, she has served as a teacher in the Math and Science departments, moderator of the National Honor Society, Academic Counselor, and Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction. Marielle was born and raised in Long Beach, California. She attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School where she found her love of mathematics. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics/Applied
Science with an emphasis in Medical and Life Sciences from the University of California Los Angeles. While at UCLA, she worked at Inglewood High School for the GEAR UP Program. In her three years there, she
worked as a mentor, tutor science and teaching, she and program assistant for became a member of the the College Prep Program.
