El Monte Chooses New Police Chief by Chelsea Dickerson El Monte

The City of El Monte announced on Friday, March 27 the selection of David Reynoso as the City’s next police chief. Reynoso is a veteran with the City of Baldwin Park Police Department. “Mr. Reynoso brings with him years of experience as an officer and leader in a nearby community, allowing him to understand at a regional level the challenges and opportunities that we face here in El Monte,” City Manager Raul Godinez II

said. “His combination of professional experience, respect for community and innovative ideas make him the right person to lead our police force.” An officer with the Baldwin Park police force since 1990, Reynoso worked his way up from a police officer to the Captain of Operations, a position he has held since 2013. During his 25-year career with Baldwin Park Police Department, Reynoso served as a detective, patrol sergeant, SWAT team leader, watch commander and traffic sergeant commander, among the many other assignments throughout his career. Parkview Elementary Students Participate in STAND UP to Bullying Week by Michele Earle National

Students at Parkview Elementary School in the Mountain View School District are standing up to bullying. The kindergarten through sixth grade students participated STAND UP to Bullying Week sponsored by the school’s student council. The week’s activities began with STAND UP to Bullying Day where each student received an orange wristband with the Stand Up to Bullying sentiment. On Tuesday, students attended an Anti-Bullying assembly and pledged to stand up to bullying by signing a large poster. Wednesday was declared Too Bright for Bullying Day and students wore bright colors and sunglasses to confirm their commitment to take a stand against bullying. students enjoyed an antibullying skit by members of student council. The week concluded with Stomp Out Bullying Day and students and staff wearing crazy shoes. Wanting to increase awareness about this very important issue, student council members coordinated the activities to encourage Parkview’s students to be kind to one another and

work together to stop bullying. According to Martha Segura Diaz, Student Council advisor, the weeklong campaign generated from a speech Parkview sixth grader, Faith Castillo wrote. As a way to combat bullying Castillo suggested schools take part in the March 20th National Day of Action Against Bullying and Vio-

lence, and hold anti-bullying activities, so that’s what Parkview did. “It’s been a great week and our students have enjoyed the activities and really taken a stand against bullying,” said Segura-Diaz. “Bullying is something we all need to do our part to prevent and it’s been wonderful watching our students unite for bullying preven-
