A Random Act of Kindness by Staff Writer El Monte
Kindness took on a special meaning for one family thanks to an El Monte Police Officer. This past week the woman in the photo had her purse stolen from Jack ‘n The Box in El Monte. It was bad enough losing her wallet, but what really devastated her was something greater. You see, this mom saved up all of her gift cards all year long to go shopping for her son on Black Friday. All of her gift cards were in her stolen purse. Her young son was trying to console his crying mom, when El Monte Police Officer, Cpl. Jacob Salmon overheard their conversation. Cpl. Salmon wanted to help this family
and out of his own funds purchased new gift cards and gave them to the young boy. The picture seen here is worth a thousand words. Thank you Police Officer Salmon for showing us what the holidays are all about. May your kindness become contagious not only for the holidays, but become a trend all year long. Courtesy photos

Past or Current Resident
For the past 18 years second graders at Twin Lakes School in the Mountain View School District have enjoyed studying about and celebrating Thanksgiving. The 18 year tradition began as a classroom event and has evolved into a celebration across the entire 2nd grade. “One of our social studies standards focuses on now and long ago, so through this annual event we look at how Thanksgiving is celebrated now and how it was long ago,” said Julie Pernudi, 2nd grade teacher. “It’s a great opportunity to compare and
