of farm workers” to national attention. He knew first hand of the injustices that farm workers experienced since he was a migrant farm worker from the age of 10. History tells us that Cesar Estrada Chavez was born on March 31, 1927. He used nonviolent means, with strikes and boycotts, to help fight “racial and economic discrimination against Chicano residents.” He helped bring awareness of the “dangers of pesticides to worker’s health.” Throughout his life, Mr. Chavez worked to improve the working conditions of farm workers in the United States. It is said that Mr. Chavez had many friends and supporters, including Jesse Jackson and Robert Kennedy. He co-founded the

Taste and Sound of El Monte / South El Monte by Glen Maldonado El Monte

El Monte and South El Monte Chamber of Commerce held their Annual Taste and Sound of El Monte / South El Monte on Thursday March 24th. The event featured the taste of chamber member’s restaurants and sounds of local artists and dancers. There were many types of foods, ranging from Mexican, American to Italian. Jolly Jug, an iconic restaurant in El Monte, featured their infamous pastrami sandwich. Tito’s made their famous sandwich as well. El Pescador served ceviche and made delicious margaritas with a little spice. One of Mid Valley News’ favorite foods was from Tizon Bistro. They made delicious pasta, which featured grilled chicken that
