Premierships at alast!

After winning three football premierships in arow in the Riddell League, the Gisborne club crossed to the major Bendigo League in the 2000 season.

Gisborne footballers won their first Bendigo League senior football premiership since the 2006 season on Saturday, overcoming Strathfieldsaye in ahard, slogging contest in wet and heavy conditions at the Queen Elizabeth Oval.
The Harcourt Lions lived up to their name, coming from behind at half-time for a9.4 (58) to 7.8 (50) grand final triumph at Princes Park, Maryborough.
For Gisborne, it was an overdue premiership after finishing on top of the ladder, then losing the second semi-final and fighting back to tip out Golden Square by two points in an epic preliminary final.
The Bulldogs also won the Under 18s flag, and two netball premierships.
From current president John Wood down, the Bulldogs have been building their netball and football prowess and to come home with four of the six premierships two football, two netball –may well be an ominous sign to other BFNL clubs that the Bulldogs are set for continual powerhouse status once again.
since that time the Bendigo-based clubs have proved too strong in finals series.

Gisborne footballerscelebrate their first Bendigo League senior football premiership since 2006.
Premierships followed in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006 but

Gisborne’s tireless ruckman, Braidon Blake, who was recruited late in 2020, won the Nalder Medal for best afield, and key defender Jack Reaper tookout the second best player award, but there were many in the lineup contributing to the victory in the extremely adverse conditions, with quality on-baller Brad Bernacki showing his class and captain Pat McKenna abig influence playing in various positions.
And in the Maryborough Castlemaine District League, agallant Harcourt landed its first premiership since 2007, defeating Carisbrook by eight points after atremendous battle.

Trentham's ambulance service will be upgraded to an Ambulance Community Officer branch to deliver more specialised care and faster responses. ACOs are locally based first responders trained to provide advanced first aid in small communities where ambulance caseloads are low. These officers are dispatched at the same time as Ambulance Victoria paramedics to aTriple Zero call. Due to their location and proximity to the local community they serve, they help provide the fastest response possible. The ACO branch is expected to be operational by early 2023.

All funds raised will be used for future student initiatives.

The school's year 12 VCAL students have organised the event every step of the way and look forward to seeing it come to fruition.
The event is open to everyone in the community.
"We have had agreat response and support from the Kyneton and Macedon Ranges community," said student organiser Maddie.

Castlemaine artist Jan Palethorpe came up with the idea for the film after first making athree-dimensional sculpture inspired by the Taliban's unlawful seizing of power in Afghanistan last year.
Atwilight market to raise funds for Kyneton High School will be held on October 7.

"It's about oppression and about how these young women can't be who they were before," Jan says, also mentioning that local musician Duncan Graham is composing original music for the production.
"My partner, Bruce Armstrong, happens to work in film and he loved the idea," says Jan whose sculptural piece will also feature in the film.
The three were all in Castlemaine to participate in filming of My Yellow Dress, a short art film being made by local creatives and filmmakers including Castlemaine's Bruce Armstrong and Michael Harkin.

Agroup of young Afghani women who recently fled the oppressive rule of the Taliban have visited Castlemaine to play key roles in anew short film.
Jan says the film is titled My Yellow Dress in reference to just one of the many things that women impacted by the Taliban's aggression can now no longer enjoy in life.
Community market stalls will offer plenty to browse with everything from plants to jewellery, local makers' wares and lots for foodies.
"I thought wouldn't it be great to do afilm and get people actually involved," she says.
Jan also jumped online to purchase ahijab that was used in filming scenes at Castlemaine's Lot 19 arts centre last week.
She says the film is ultimately anticipated to screen on SBS and to be entered in various short film competitions.
There's also achance to be part of araffle and silent auction with items donated by local businesses and individuals.

Forced to flee

Jan got in touch with the Afghan Women’s Organisation Victoria who were "very pleased to be involved" and were able to put her in touch with the three young Afghani refugees who were forced to flee their homeland for their own personal safety.
Entertainment will include face painting, live music, carnival games and delicious food.

"It was avery exciting day," says Jan who also interviewed the three Afghani refugees about their harrowing experiences as part of Girls on Air, the radio show she co-hosts on Castlemaine's MAINfm.

Marney said everyone knew about Alan Turing’s codebreaking efforts during the war, made popular by Benedict Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game. But what people didn’t realise was that 70 per cent of the codebreakers at Bletchley Park in the UK and Arlington Hall in the US during World War II were female, and the average age of these female codebreakers was just 19.
Castlemaine multi-award winning crime author Ellie Marney is in the US today for the worldwide release of her latest book, The Killing Code, based on the inspirational story of the role of female allied codebreakers in World War II.

Eliminating emissions from fossil fuels is necessary but not enough. Consequent uncontrolled global heating and biodiversity loss are coming back to bite us humans, as well as all other life on earth.
The wildlife killed on the roads in the Macedon Ranges is horrific and the council does nothing.
Yet the council worked with the state government to remove two significant trees from Forest Creek recently including a 150-year-old gum that was an important habitat and nesting tree for local wildlife. There wasn’t even an ecological assessment done on these trees before they were felled, and wildlife that lived in these trees were either killed or left homeless and with nowhere to nest this spring. They claim the trees were destroyed to protect the stone wall. Can’t we protect significant trees and astone wall in the 21st century?

This Castlemaine community is renowned for its high levels of community engagement. Organisations such as My Home Network have been set up todeal with the housing crisis. This is affecting rural regions in particular but is also chronic in the Melbourne regions.

As the council’s own Environment Strategy highlights, “Human influence on the global climate system is responsible for global warming and the related impacts on people and ecosystems”, yet the council has no problem destroying important parts of these ecosystems when they get in the wayof progress, even when there are alternatives that could protect the natural environment, address climate change, and allow for the upgrade of our facilities.

The author saidthatwhileAlan Turing’s achievements were rightly celebrated, the thousands of women whodid much of the “grunt work” and likely helped save more than 15 million lives during the war were not permitted to talk about their top-secret work until it was declassified in the mid-1970s. Unfortunately, Mr Bell, ex-councillor of Mount Alexander Shire, fails to remain informed on the causes of current housing pressures. Namely this is about the process of capital gains that allowed people to accrue huge profits. The current housing crisis has also been caused by over-inflated housing prices. Give up those habits
"Your conscious mind works logically, does research and comes to conclusions about what is good/or not, for you.
"People need to know what their asthma triggers are including seasonal changes and have regular check-ups with your GP."
"Dust mites are nearly impossible to eradicate, but as with mould, reducing humidity in the home can help to keep them under control.
"These stories allow the person to form anew anew sense of selfidentity –how they see themselves –and to build self-esteem and confidence."
"To help keep this space healthy, focus on good natural air circulation and use extractor fans. Remember it is important to find and fix the source of mould, as well as cleaning visible mould, to stop it from regrowing," Ms Taylor says.

"Absolutely every minute counts when astrokestrikes, because in every minute of astroke you lose 1.9 million brain cells," Ms MsGowan said.
"Recognising inability to lift both arms could be the difference between asurvivor of stroke having a chance at agoodrecovery or having lifelong disability due to delayed treatment. So please, familiarise yourself with this common sign, because it could one day save alife," Ms MsGowan said.

Victorians need to lift their understanding of what stroke most commonly looks like, to give people the chance of getting the emergency treatment stroke requires, says Stroke Foundation chief executive officer Sharon McGowan.
Weather forecasters have predicted rainfall is likely to be above average for much of Australia in coming times and even more so for the eastern twothirds of the mainland.
Connecting with the horse
ting smoking has found that hypnosis can make your weight loss efforts 30 times more effective and on average, hypnosis was more than three times as effective as nicotine patches or nicotine replacement methods and 15 times more effective as trying to quit alone," Marianne says.
Therapy sessions at Black Horse Therapies are open to people of all ages and backgrounds.
"The symptoms can include nose, eye and skin irritation, sneezing or wheezing, and severe breathing difficulties in some people," Ms Taylor says.
"Hypnotherapy can make the difference as hypnosis goes to the heart of the problem –your subconscious mind," Marianne says.
Ms Taylor says mould has ahabit of hiding and it spreads to places you can't see.
"Not knowing the signs of stroke reduces your chance of getting the urgent treatment you need, and once those brain cells die, it makes recovery so much more difficult."
"Scientific research into the effects of hypnotherapy on losing weight and quit-
National Asthma Council’s Adele Taylor says winter weather –which we are still experiencing –isa key time when mould creeps in, releasing tiny spores into the air, which can trigger asthma and allergy symptoms.
Therapist Elizabeth Hannah has practised acupuncture and chinese medicine for 30 years and now focuses on equine-assisted therapy in her practice. She holds aGraduateDiploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and is trained in natural horsemanship.

Know thesignsofstroke
"The participant often discovers that they have strengths and abilities such as being gentle, patient and caring or being assertive and astrong leader, which they, and others, were unaware of," Elizabeth says.
"Be aware of signs such as condensation on your

"Mould thrives in warm, damp environments and can make itself at home anywhere there is low air flow or excess moisture, such as built-in wardrobes and in bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms.
Wellbeing
Another common asthma trigger during winter can be dust mites, which thrive when indoor humidity is high.

"Their ability to read the horse’s signals increases and this helps their awareness of others outside the yard."

Elizabeth uses anarrative therapy approach, which includes telling stories of what took place in the horse yard.
"The best strategy is to kill house dust mites, remove the allergen they produce and reduce areas where they can live and breed," Ms Taylor says.
Having trouble sticking to your plan to lose weight or quite smoking?
Wet weather asthma flare-ups
"You try to implement those decisions, but if the rigid 'programs' in your subconscious disagree with those decisions, then it will eventually override your logical decisions and have you reaching out for that which you had decided not to indulge in.
"As the therapy continues their ability to find aplace of calm inside themselves grows and is shared by the horse.
Practitioner Marianne Pattinson of Kyneton Hypnotherapies says that hypnosis makes long-term weight loss and stopping smoking possible.
Each year Stroke Foundation measures Australians’ awareness of the most common signs of stroke, which arefacialdroop, the inability to lift both arms, and slurred speech. They are highlighted in the F.A.S.T acronym, which also reminds people that in astroke, time is critical. However, the most recent survey found that only 11 per cent of Victorians knew that the inability to lift both arms was akey indicator of stroke.
Elizabeth says many of the participants are children and young people with adiagnosis of autism. Children and adults with ahistory of trauma (PTSD), as well as those experiencing anxiety and depression are being helped by interacting with the therapy horses under her guidance.
She says that skills learnt in the yard increase self-confidence. New stories of identity
Participants often bring asupport person with them who acts as an observer. Observations and reflections form the story of what took place.
"These microscopic creatures feed off skin cells and grow well in humidity in bedding, blankets and winter clothing that has been left in cupboards all year.

At this stage Storm had two players injured, reducing their interchange effectiveness.

## Gisborne Football Netball Club’s Presentation Night takes place this Thursday evening at the Taylor Lakes Hotel Starlight Room.
CONFIDENCE GROWS
Gisborne supporters continued to find voice as time kicked away and it promised to be the lowest winning score ever in a Bendigo League grand final.
Strathfieldsaye kicked with awind advantage, and numerous stoppages were the order of the day in what could be described as awar of attrition.

There was ageneral feeling that if they produced their best, irrespective of ground conditions, apremiership was there for the taking, and so it proved.
After finishing on top of the ladder, Gisborne stumbled against Strathfieldsaye in the second semi-final, then scraped home by two points in the preliminary final against Golden Square.
It was ahard contest, and the Gisborne side was buoyed by the earlier courageous two-point win by the club’s Under 18s after trailing Sandhurst nearly all match; also two netball premierships for the ‘Dogs were very welcome.
As hard working Gisborne captain Pat McKenna said later, the wet conditions made the Bulldogs feel at home as they had trained in the rain on Thursday evening.
The rain had stopped and Storm got agoaloff the ground, their second, from Lachlan Sharp. It did not change the inevitable.
Gisborne coach Rob Waters was pleased but the job still had to be done, with apremiership not far away.

Much hard work behind the scenes led to Gisborne breaking through for their first senior flag since 2006, and already there are thoughts being turned to trytorepeat the performance next season.
In time-on, Ellings goaled from adownfield free, and ashort time later the long-awaited final siren sounded to mark amemorable Gisborne victory.
Metres gained were important, and minimal scoring occurred, with Storm (Strathfieldsaye) scoring the only goal in the first term.
