A date to fix: Repair Cafe returns
Castlemaine's much-loved Repair Cafe is getting set for a comeback after months of COVID-incurred absence. The last time the well-attended monthly Repair Cafe happened it was way back in February. STATE OF DISASTER impact in a shorter timeframe. For regional Victoria, the only time appropriate to leave home is for one of the four permitted reasons: caregiving or medical reasons; shopping for food and essentials; exercise; and education or work when it cannot be done from home. Regional students attended their final school day yesterday and will return to remote learning from Wednesday. Vulnerable students will be able to attend school. Childcare remains open. Melbourne is now subject to a curfew from 8pm to 5am daily to reduce the movements of people. One person may leave home to shop daily and one hour of exercise is permitted within a five-kilometre radius of their home.
Weddings in Melbourne cannot occur from Wednesday 11.59pm. Study at TAFE and uni must be done remotely. The Night Network will be suspended and public transport services will be reduced during Melbourne curfew hours. Mr Andrews said the lockdown would be in place for six weeks, until Sunday September 13. "We must do more. We must go harder. It's the only way we'll get to the other side of this," he said. "The current rate of community transmission - mystery cases that cannot be traced back to work or home - is far too high." Face coverings will continue to be compulsory, coming into effect for all Victorians yesterday.

Regional Victoria returns to Stage 3 lockdown from midnight Wednesday and Melbourne moved to Stage 4 on Sunday night to fight coronavirus spread, following the Premier's declared State of Disaster. Premier Daniel Andrews said more needed to be done as current trends would not see lower numbers for four to six months. "Our health experts tell us the measures we've introduced are working. But too slowly," he said. "As they tell us, based on the current numbers, cases might begin to drop off not in days or weeks - but in months. Months more of lockdown restrictions. Months more of 300, 400, 500 cases a day." It is hoped the tougher restrictions will have a positive
