PARKERSBURG – Hampton-Dumont·s baseball team opened Class 2A district play with a 4-0 defeat of LaPorte City, Union at Parkersburg on Saturday, July 12. The Bulldogs (19-11) put two runs on the scoreboard right away in the opening inning and then tacked on a couple more insurance runs to move on against Dike-New Hartford on Tuesday,

MCCALLSBURG – All nine CAL batters plated at least one run in the Cadets’ 10-1 Class 1A regional victory over GMG on Monday, July 7. Although CAL Ànished with only Àve hits, the Cadets beneÀted from 14 walks from GMG pitchers Haley Stahl and Abbie Duden to improve to 10-10 and advance to play last year·s Àfth-place team in 1A, AGWSR. Clarissa Gomez, who was 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk, drove in two runs and was one of two who stole bases for coach Mikyla Hefti’s squad. Stephanie Thielen, who struck out six, gave up only one hit and walked three to earn the win in the circle. The Cadets trailed 1-0 going to the sixth when they tied it and then exploded for nine runs in the top of the seventh to make it a run-away.

CAL wins ¿rst round regional over GMG

IOWA FALLS – Hampton-Dumont·s baseball team broke open a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning with a four-run rally to defeat Iowa Falls 6-2 in its Ànal North Central Conference game on Wednesday, July 9. H-D had nine hits, but it was unearned runs in that ¿nal inning which got the win for coach Matt Lokenvitz’s squad. The Cadets committed four errors in the inning as the Bulldogs ¿nished the NCC with a 10-8 record, good for fourth. Austin Poock hit 2-for-4 and drove in two of H-D’s runs at the designated hitter spot while Cole Miller helped out his own cause on the mound by going 2-for-2 at the plate, including a double and scored a run. Cole Miller struck out 10 while tossing a two-hitter. He also walked four and gave up no earned runs.

It will be a rematch of last year’s game in which the Wolverines rallied past coach Matt Lokenvitz’s team after leading 5-3 going into the bottom of the seventh only to see them tie it and go ahead in extras. Against the Knights, Bailey Miller struck out seven, walked none while scattering four hits.

Cesar Baez was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. The top ¿ve hitters in the lineup for the Bulldogs all collected one hit apiece, but bunched them together in both innings in which they scored. Austin Poock was 0-for-1, but walked twice and scored.
