Christmas Spirit Night Sunday in Thompson

Thompson Community Development Group (TCDG) will host “Christmas Spirit Night� in Thompson on Sunday, Dec. 22. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will be at Hometown Market from 4-6 p.m., providing sacks for each of the children. TCDG will also be offering cookies, apple cider, juice and coffee for everyone. Right: More than 20 children were able to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus during the Thompson Public Library Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 7, including Sam Hughes, son of Jeff and Cathy Hughes of Thompson. Santa returns to town on Sunday, Dec. 22, when he will be at Hometown Market for “Christmas Spirit Night�.

They had orders for over 800 pizzas. 40 Years Ago Tribune Files of Thursday, December 20, 1973 The Buffalo Center Community Schools Stage Band was at North Central of Manly on Saturday where they competed in a jazz festival. According to Keith Person, Director, there were 17 bands in contention for honor. Buffalo Center placed fourth in the evening performance. Final ratings were Charles City, Greene, Oelwein, Buffalo Center and North Central. With gas rationing looming on the horizon, to what extent will Winnebago County with its 7600 or so cars be affected? Most of the local population is too young to remember or know what gas rationing was like. If it should result, it would mean that 15 gallons a week would be getting only 12 gallons. 50 Years Ago Tribune Files of Thursday, December 19, 1963 The front page of the Buffalo Center Tribune reporting the assassination President Kennedy has been included in a slide presentation of newspaper front pages in the President’s death prepared at the University of Iowa School of Journalism at Iowa City.
