For the trick to have the intended audience reaction, mentalism requires advanced preparation and also a good deal of explanation to carry the audience along through the trick.

1 Hold up six objects to the audience while counting aloud and place each object down in the order in which you called out the number.
• 2 Explain that you are going to predict the number of the object which a volunteer from the audience selects.

Write down the number of the object which you predict the volunteer will select. Make sure the number is written large enough for all audience members to see.

4 Place the prediction face down on the table. The card should be placed generally in the middle of the table opposite the objects.

Ask the volunteer onto the stage and have him select one of the six objects.

Call out the number you have written on the card as the number of the object the volunteer selected, regardless of which object the volunteer selects. Slightly re-arrange the order of the objects to distract the audience's attention. • 7
Pick up the card with the prediction written on it and show it to the audience. The predicted object will be the one that the volunteer chose because when the audience member identified the object you called out the number which you had previously written on the card and thus forced the "prediction" to be correct.
