By Bob Vosseller JACKSON – The global pandemic means live music venues are shut down, which leaves small-time musicians to do what they do best – get creative. Recording artist Daniel Simoes, who goes by the name Alvalanker has a lot to be ex-
cited about this year. “I have a new album coming out, which will be my third, since I started this project in 2018.” Simoes, 33, talked to The Jackson Times about the difficulties local musicians are having not being able to perform live or at
bars or anywhere to make money because of the pandemic. He a l s o n ot e d t h a t i n some ways however, the health crisis has actually helped some recording artists. “That is because more people are staying inside or isolating and listening to more mu-

Commissioner Vicari Withdraws From Governor Race
By Chris Lundy TOMS RIVER – Commissioner Joseph H. Vicari has withdrawn his name for consideration for the governor’s race this year. He urged that whoever does get the nod should faithfully serve Ocean County residents and not just
look to them as a pack of votes. Vicari is the longest-serving Commissioner (formerly called Freeholder) in the state, and had formerly been mayor and committeeman in Toms River, and superintendent of Berkeley Township
Schools. He had been on a short list of candidates to be screened by the Ocean Cou nt y Republican Club for their endorsement. If he had won, he would have had the party line on the November ballot. The Toms River Republican Club had
already backed him. “I make this decision after careful and thoughtful discussions with my family. I also want to devote my fulltime efforts to serving the residents of Ocean Cou nt y, who ove rwhelmingly supported my re-election as Free-

By Bob Vosseller JACKSON – No new ordinances, no old ordinances and some routine resolutions were all part of the most recent Township Council meeting as officials looked ahead to a better new year for the community. “I look forward to working with my fellow council members and our township professionals,” Councilman Nino Borrelli said. Borrelli was sworn in for his first term on council during the Council’s reorganization meeting on January 7. He joins Councilmen Steven Chisholm and Martin Flemming on their first full terms on council. Councilman Chisholm said he was looking forward to a great year “serving the town with all the rest of our officials here and serving the people of Jackson. If anyone has anything they think can be done on behalf of the town or if there is any way you think we can improve what’s going on in Jackson Township we look forward to speaking to you so please don’t hesitate to reach out. Come out to these meetings, get involved and we look forward to working with you,” (Council - See Page 2)
