CELEBRATION OF LIFE

Amanda L. “Sister” Galloway was born July 12, 1939, in Aberdeen to the late William Henry Ransom and Eula Hickman Ransom. Amanda, the matriarch of the Hickman-Ransom families made her transition on Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Columbus, Mississippi. Amanda joined Lifeboat United Methodist Church at an early age and served her membership after Lifeboat merged with St. Paul United Methodist Church and became St. Peter United Methodist Church. She attended Vine Street High School. After being active with her former husband Warren Galloway during the Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi, Amanda relocated to Detroit, Michigan from 1965 – to 1989, where she raised three boys. While living in Detroit Amanda worked numerous jobs, but cooking was her specialty where she worked at the Cotillion Club as the head cook for many years. Upon her return back to Aberdeen, she cooked out of her home for many Aberdeen residents until her retirement.

Since 2018, she lived at the Care Center of Aberdeen senior living.

Survivors include her sons James H. Ransom of Aberdeen, MS, and Warren S. Galloway, Jr. and his wife Tresa Galloway of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, former husband Warren Galloway of Southfield, MI, and sister-in-law Inester Caradine Ransom of Aberdeen, MS. Amanda had five grandchildren Keontae McLeod, MacKenzie K. Galloway, Warren S. Galloway, III, Madison K. Galloway, and MaKayla K. Galloway. There are two great-grandchildren Kristeona McLeod and James McLeod and one great-great-grandson Carter Paul. Amanda had a host of incredible nieces and nephews who truly loved her as an Auntie.

Amanda was preceded in death by her parents William H. Ransom and Eula Ransom, her siblings Willie Ransom, Kavilliam Ransom, James H. Ransom, and Ida Roy, and her oldest son: Robert Earl Ransom.

Amanda lived a very comfortable life while residing at the Care Center of Aberdeen because of her beautiful nieces Genann Jones and Darlisa Williams who served admirably as her caretakers.
