Castleman trailway 2017

Castleman Trailway run 27th June instructions for the run on the 27/6/17 The coach will pick up 6:30pm from Ashdown First drop off West moors (9M) then on to Verwood turning on A31 drop off point (13M).

The route is pretty straight forward and largely the first part follows the signposted Castleman trailway from the Verwood turning to near West moors, (If you get lost on this stage you deserve a prize!!) It crosses the Moors Valley road at Ashley heath and carries on to the back of West moors village.

This is the start point for the 13M (the Verwood turn off from the A31) the green Castleman sign is in the background.

Follow the trailway till the outskirts of west moors till you reach this alleyway at Arnold Close

Follow Arnold close for a short while and bear left, you will see a sign for the Castleman trailway on your right down a path Do not take this!! Go along the road a few more houses and this path appears between the houses Follow this path into Moorlands road and turn right At the end of Moorlands road you reach the main West moors road

This is the 8.7 mile drop off point (so both routes follow the same homeward path now) Do

not Follow the Castleman signs at this point!!

Directly opposite the junction of Moorlands road and Station road (the main West Moors road) is a road called Farm road, go down here.

Follow Farm road to the end to junction with Mannington road (pictured above)

At the end of Mannington road is this gate which takes you out onto common land, go through it and Go Right

This takes you onto this path that runs adjacent to Ferndown forest golf course.

The path brings you out in Ferndown forest golf clubs car park and also back onto the route of the Castleman route run through the car park and out towards Ferndown police HQ on the right is the signpost for the Castleman trailway (this is part of the Wayfarers relay route so might be familiar)

Follow the signposts until you come to the bridge over the A31 go across this and follow the trailway onto Uddens lane.

Turn right down Uddens lane until you see a turn for a bridleway (above)

Don’t follow the Castleman signs; this is another deviation from the route Follow the Bridleway to Wimborne road west and turn right, cross over and take the turning down Fox lane on your left.

Follow to the end and you will come to Ham lane, Cross over and rejoin Fox Lane (The road the Fox and Hounds is on)

I will arrange some refreshments at this stage such as squash and sweets from my van in the car park However a pint in the pub sounds pretty good also!!

Just before the underpass for the A31 there is a turning on the left for the Castleman route

This takes you over a stile and into the Stour meadows Follow the path along the river, till you get to the swing bridge just past Canford School (on the opposite bank) A lot of people will probably be on familiar territory here.

Over the bridge and left towards Canford school and through Canford magna towards the main Magna road.

Left at Magna road and cross over and about 75Metres along is this turning for Stoats Hill

About 50Metres up this track and then bear right between the two pipe sections

Follow this track until you come to the point where it reaches a field, turn right!! And stay parallel with the fence; Don’t go out into the field

Follow the path until you come to this rock and an intersection, take the right hand path (below) and follow this up and down some inclines!! Run parallel to the tip road and cross this at the gate, follow this path and it will carry on and join the red brick path, you are nearly back!!
