inspiration My inspiration for the project focused on flexible spaces with diffent space-dividing elements, small children-sized furniture and spaces, and open but dynamic spaces.

program & goals Summer 2016 (3 weeks) at Danish Institute of Study Abroad Design a teaching kitchen for children (ages 4-6) which provides a space for preparing food, demo kitchens, workstations for cooking lessons, a classroom space and a cafe that can be utilized by the public.

1. Celebrate the process of growing, preparing, and sharing food.

2. Create flexible space for many different users and activities.

3. Integrate Scandinavian Design Principles.

Design a vet clinic and boarding facility in an old building in Portland that was formerly an auto workshop. Research the needs for building type and make adjustments to the program as necessary. Additionally, develop a brand for the tenants.

1. Understand the needs for a vet clinic and care center in order to create an intelligent andinformed design that improves lives of clinic staff.

2. Create very public and very private spaces.

3. Establish a separate but united relationship of the two functions.

program & goals Design and construct a working prototype of either a table, stool or bench in 6 weeks. The design must incorporate two distinct materials and highlight the materials in some way. In addition, explore own personal brand identity.

1. Incorporate personal style to create a coffee table that is small enough to fit in a tiny space yet strong enough to stand its ground as a defining element in a large space.

2. Focus on joinery, subtle details, care, and craft to produce a thoughtfully and beautifully designed piece.

3. Understand how to design at the intimate scale of product design.

Conduct analysis of existing lighting conditions of Oolong Tea Bar in Eugene. Propose a redesign for tea bar including RCP and technical lighting specifications. Design a luminaire for the space and fabricate it in teams of three. Test said luminaire to determine effectiveness of product using photometric measurement techniques in the UO lighting lab.
