The archives contain a wealth of information for anyone conducting research within the Township of Scugog. Our volunteers and staff fulfil genealogical research requests for individuals across North America. The archives contain the following resources for the former Reach, Scugog, Port Perry, and Cartwright townships, now all part of the Township of Scugog: assessment rolls, birth/death/marriage registers, personal and agricultural census, tax collectors’ rolls, deeds, maps, municipal records, newspapers, school records and women’s institute records. We also have genealogy files catalogued by family name, a number of detailed family trees from local families, and an extensive photographic collection. Limited research material is also available on neighbouring townships. Access to the archives is by appointment only. Visitors may conduct their own research for a flat rate of $17.50, which includes 20 photocopies. Research can also be done by museum personnel at a rate of $32.00/hour. To fill out a research request online, visit www.scugog.ca/museum.

SCUGOG ARTS

SCUGOG ARTS - OUR STORY

Scugog Arts is our community’s creative hub: awakening, inspiring and connecting you to all the arts. We are an arts space on Queen Street in Port Perry with Resident Artists, Biidaaban Gallery and monthly exhibitions that are drivers of Scugog tourism. Scugog Arts Space is home to workshops for artists and our visitors, and a funky meet-up space. Scugog Arts organizes and holds multi-arts cultural events, literary programs, festivals and art tours. Awaken your interest and participation in all of the arts. Join us for Culture Days in September, our Lake Scugog Studio Tour and multi-discipline arts festival: small town BIG in May, and Sunday Pop Up Market running from August through Thanksgiving. We finish up the year with unique original Canadian art at our Christmas Market mid Nov – December each year. Let our space inspire you with our monthly exhibitions of paintings, sculpture, photography, installations and more. Shop for unique original handmade pottery, fibre, original prints, mixed-media, jewellery, stone and paintings, and authentic indigenous art from Biidaaban Gallery. We are open Tuesday – Sunday, 11-5 and until 8 on Fridays. Shop our gallery anytime on-line at www.shopscugogarts.ca. We connect our community with public art displays such as our Art You Can Sit On chairs, creating a memorial to Bill Lishman and ceiling tiles for our hospital. Experience live theatre by Theatre on the Ridge and music in our back lot. Our Literary Contest, Ekphrastic Writing, opens on-line in January with the announcement of the visual art pieces chosen from our Annual Juried Show from the prior August, then we hold a reading and awards night, workshops, SLAM events and 10-word story contests throughout the year.

Scugog Arts is funded by individual donors, Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, Vos’ Independent Grocery, Old Flame Brewery, Williams & Follows Real Estate, Ron and Nancy Compton Foundation, Canadian Tire Port Perry, Ontario Culture Days, Central Counties Tourism and the Canada Summer Jobs program of the Government of Canada. Our fundraising efforts always focus in unique ways on various arts disciplines with engaging entertainment for supporters such as our Art Parties and Mural Marathon. We support arts practitioners with workshops, by promoting and selling their work, hiring them to teach and perform, sharing our space, and with awards and prizes. Scugog Arts is an economic and tourism driver for our community and adds to the vibrancy of Port Perry for residents and visitors alike. We are proud of our role as our community’s creative hub: awakening, inspiring and connecting.
