HERITAGE TILE

TECHNICAL DESIGN / CREATIVE SERVICES INTERN

SketchUp - SU Podium - Adobe Photoshop

Heritage Tile in Oak Park, IL creates collections that provide historic and traditional-style tiles to their clients. A responsibility of this internship included creating photorealistic renderings using their different tile collections for marketing and design resources on their redesigned website. Using physical samples of the tiles and existing design guides, I was asked to create different scenes to help show how their tiles could be utilized.

3D modeling of these designs were completed in SketchUp to create scenes in which various types of tiles and materials within each collection could be applied.

Custom tile models and tile materials were created from design guides to match tiles sold by the company.

Materials and lighting were enhanced using SU Podium, and rendered using several different tile layouts, tile shapes, and tile finishes to create a series of marketing photos.

SketchUp - SU Podium - Adobe Photoshop More responsibilities of this internship were to look over, edit, and fill in the existing tile libraries for the Subway Tile Collection and the Shadow Tile Collection and to create a tile library for the Japanese Tile Collection.

These tile libraries are used as resources by designers for design planning and were also used in the creation of the marketing renderings.

This design was modeled using SketchUp along with the created Japanese collection tile library. Materials were enhanced and lighting was created using SU Podium and rendered using different tile layouts and tile glazes.

The Shadow Tile Collection uses shapes, textures, and colors that are designed to be used with direct light sources to create interesting shadow effects. These scenes were created with SU Podium lights shining from above (left) and from below (right). The 3D scenes were modeled in SketchUp, rendered using SU Podium, and touched up using Adobe Photoshop.

The Shadow Tile Collection library was already started but needed to be added to and adjusted in order to make the components easily accessible for anyone utilizing the file.

These projects were drawn from sketches and dimensions taken on the job site by the designer, which I turned into CAD drawings. Taking client requests and space requirements and restrictions into consideration, a remodel floorplan and elevations were created for a client proposal for each project.

This master bathroom required communicating many different tile layouts and ideas among the client, designer, and the installers. Careful placement of new fixtures within the existing space and architecture was also a priority.

This kitchen remodel project took the existing kitchen layout and enhanced it with new cabinets, a new sink and faucet, new countertops, and new flooring.
