The Vale’s “Green for the Gras” Season is back! F

rom 23rd April to 21st June, the Vale of Evesham will be turning green to celebrate this year’s English Asparagus Season! Commencing on St Georges Day, the English Asparagus season is the perfect opportunity for the Vale to celebrate its horticultural history and association with Asparagus. Not only is the local ‘gras’ precious to the locals, it has also proved supreme by achieving its protected food status in 2015.This status positions the Vale of Evesham Asparagus in an elite group of protected food and drinks alongside some of the highest quality European produce. This year’s season will be slightly different to normal due to the ongoing restrictions…However, there are still plenty of ways to get involved. Whether you support your local farm shop and buy some Vale of Evesham Asparagus to cook and enjoy or even decorate your windows green to celebrate this prestigious vegetable that the vale is so proud of! Also keep an eye out for any appearances on TV or social media of our asparamad mascot Gus and our very own Asparamancer. Did you know? Asparagus can grow 10 inches in just 24 hours!
