HISTORY OF THE RACE / HISTORIE ZÁVODU
The first Course de la Paix was held in 1948, organized by the daily newspapers of the communist parties in the Eastern block and soon became the world‘s biggest amateur cycling race.
První ročník Závodu míru se konal v roce 1948 a byl pořádaný denníky komunistických stran třech států východního bloku. Brzy se stal největším amatérským cyklistickým závodem na světě.
• 1948 – 1951 it was run between Warsaw and Prague • 1952 – 1984 alternating departures and arrivals mainly between 3 capitals (Prague, Berlin, Warsaw) • Its winners such as Olaf Ludwig and Uwe Ampler were among the heroes of the former socialist world • Following the fall of Communism in 1989, the Peace Race was no longer state-sponsored and organizers faced trouble with gathering funds • Since 1993, the race has been organized only in the Czech Republic, with some of the stages being held in Poland and Germany. • The last edition was held in 2006
• 1948 – 1951 trať závodu mezi Varšavou a Prahou • 1952 – 1984 střídala se města, kde byl start a cíl (Praha, Berlín, Varšava) • Vítězové jako Olaf Ludwig a Uwe Ampler patřili mezi hrdiny bývalého socialistického světa • Po pádu komunismu v roce 1989 už nebyl Závod míru státem sponzorován a organizátoři se potýkali s problémy se získáváním finančních prostředků • Od roku 1993 byl závod organizován pouze v České republice, přičemž některá z etap částečně procházela územím Polska a Německa • Poslední ročník závodu se konal v roce 2006
