BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY WEST CAMPUS HOUSING -

BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY WEST CAMPUS HOUSING - GENSLER

Bucknell University’s campus is divided by the route 15 highway and as a result the university has a strong main campus on the East side and a under utilized space on the West side. Our team was tasked with giving new life and identity to West campus through student housing. This project had a strict timeline, needed to provide more beds than the current condition, used phase construction and incorporated sustainable practices. The team chose to make this a modular building complex to maximize offsite construction while utilizing geothermal cooling as well as striving for LEED Silver accreditation.

Four buildings frame the site offering 70 beds and 3 lounge spaces per building. Inside the perimeter is a plaza space with programmed amenities like fire pits and an amphitheater. The façade captures the Georgian style seen all over main campus with the Bucknell red brick and traditional windows.

My responsibilities on this project started at the beginning of Schematic Design and continued on into the issuance of Construction Documents. Working with the Design Lead and clients to make multiple designs as well as with our consultants to ensure a coordinated design, including with the modular consultant to ensure proper

INN AT PENN - MOODY NOLAN

Located at 3600 Sansom St Philadelphia, PA the Inn At Penn is a Hilton hotel that not only services the University of Pennsylvania’s campus but also the Board of Trustees. The Inn offers Ivy League accomodations from their lounges, dinning spaces, meeting rooms and hotel rooms. UPenn came to Moody Nolan looking for an interior refresh across public and private spaces as well as an addition of the new Grab and Go.

In order to develop the new design and schemes for all the spaces the team worked with representatives from the Inn At Penn, Hilton Hotel teamamtes, and University of Pennsylvania Board of Trustees. With every round of design iterations our team used the feedback to deliver the refresh and upgrades the groups were looking for. I specifically took point of the construction drawings working with the project architect to ensure all changes were captured.

109 BROOKLINE AVE - GENSLER

IQHQ - 109 BROOKLINE AVENUE

109 Brooklien Ave in Boston Ma. is a mixed use life science building with retail on the ground floor and below grade parking. Part of the Fenway Center development this new 10 story building will join other new development properties in the greater Boston area. While in the Philadelphia office I worked with members of the team in the Gensler Boston office for months in different capacities. My main task was to assist the facade lead with finalizing the facade design and production of the enclosure documentation package. While working with the team I attended consultant coordination calls as well as internal and external team meetings. Once the enclosure package was complete I continued to help with the construction documents interiors package.

There are many reasons designers choose terra cotta, one of the primary reasons being the ability to customize the material in form and finish. As evidenced by its use throughout history, terra cotta can easily be formed into innumerable profiles and finished with textures and glazes giving it the appearance of alternate materials like metal or stone. Boston Valley maintains a strong competitive advantage in both these aspects with our use of 4 forming methods and more than 30 years of glaze matching and creation. The following pages will introduce you to the color, texture and glaze finishes possible when working with terra cotta.

Terra Cotta Color Ranges

As a natural product made of material mined from the earth, terra cotta can exhibit a color range in both clay body and glaze finishes upon firing. This range makes terra cotta a truly beautiful building material. Boston Valley works with our clients to clarify the inherent color range of their selection and ensure that it fits within their design goals.

Boston Valley Terra Cotta has invested in a Konica-Minolta Photospectrometer. This device allows us to scan panels for color compliance within a target range. As terra cotta is a natural material that displays a color range upon firing, this device gives us the ability to set a target range with the client and ensure that product leaving our facility falls within that selected range.

SALT FORK ADA RESTROOM ADDITION - MOODY NOLAN

Salt Fork State Park in Guernsey County, Ohio has many facilities that are in need of an update. As a Probono project Moody Nolan agreed to add long overdue ADA restroom to a employee multi operations building. This ADA restroom would be an addition to the existing building, utlizing the same roof line and design language as well as extending the covered exterior path.

The ADA restroom consists of one floor mounted toilet, one wall mounted sink, an ADA shower and all the ADA accessories needed. A storage space was also added in the addition. All new walls are CMU and the metal seam roof was designed to match the existing.

The project timeline was 2 weeks and the team was the project manager and myself. It was my responsibility to meet with the client, generate the Revit model to existing conditions and then create the design for the addition along with the documentation for permit.
