HKSUPBA

Organizational Profile and Trends The Hong Kong Stand Up Paddle Board Association (HKSUPBA) is the Hong Kong regional representative body of the International Surfing Association (ISA) and the only organization in Hong Kong that is serious about promoting the development of stand up paddling (SUP). We are proud to announce that we have achieved all the goals that have been set up in the previous year. The completed projects including the promotion of stand up paddling through the enhancement of athletes training, cooperation with various surf and SUP organizations in mainland China, Tai Wan and Hong Kong. We also organised SUP league races in Hong Kong and hosted the Hong Kong International SUP Championship for internationally renowned athletes to come to Hong Kong and compete with lead local athletes. In the past year, The Hong Kong Stand Up Paddle Board Association (HKSUPBA) has strived to become a member of the Sport Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and hopes to receive support and funding from the Hong Kong Government for SUP athletes. However, the SUP movement has been able to grow healthily and move forward in the past year before we received any good news from the Hong Kong Government. We want to express our deep gratitude to the following units who have been supporting and contributing for the past few years. Among the sponsors, we are especially grateful to MVISION, Sharelife Sports Equipments, WHATZSUP Standup Paddleboard Pro Shop, and Regal Earn. In terms of human resources support, thanks to a group of committee members who have been dedicated to promoting and assisting in organizing and preparing SUP events. Everyone’s effort

has enabled the general public to learn more about SUP and to participate more in the SUP events. We are very proud of the outstanding results and achievements of “the Hong Kong International SUP Championships” has reached. There were many current world champions joined in our Championship races, including Mr. Kai Lenny, the Super Waterman; Mr. Michael Booth, the current World Paddle League’s No. 1 Australian player; Mr. Casper Steinfath , the Champion of ISA SUP Sprints 2017; Mr. Mo Freitas, the Champion of ISA Technical Race 2017; Mr. Bernd Roedi 2017 Columbia Gorge Paddle Challenge Elite Downwind Champion, Japan’s No. 1 player Kenny Kaneko for five consecutive years, and more professional players on the leaderboard I have not participated in the competition in this event. It is the fourth in this year’s competition in 2018. It is also a good one to be one of the Paddle League’s global elite scoring points, one of the two-star events in the rankings. We will continue to work hard and hope that one day will become one of the major sports events in Hong Kong.

Welcome everyone to take part at our 4th Hong Kong Sup International Championship presented by Mvision. In 2018, hksupba has continued the growth of sports in athletes development, instructor program and event development. Our youth program has increased over 200 young athletes who took part into training and more than 80 become new generations of sup racers. Our instructor program went well and developed a group of new ISA sup instructors who are internationally recognized. And the new group of instructors are already helping more people to enjoy the sport. In terms of our racing events, we have already completed 3 Hong Kong Sup league races with one more to find out who will be our best paddlers in Hong Kong. Our international sup championship has been recgonized by the Paddle League as a 2 stars event, so athletes who compete in this event will get ranking points with the top 100 male and top 50 female leaders points. We are also aiming to send a team of atheletes to represent Hong Kong and take part in the ISA sup world championship during end of November. We have worked closely with Asia Sup Tour early on in June to developed the first Asia Sup Championship in Mahalo Club, China. The race was a success with top Asian paddlers take part in event. The beach at Mahalo Club has surfing waves which allowed athletes to learn and trained to take part in technical racing. We will use the club to set up more open ocean training along side with sup surfing training for Hong Kong athletes.

Good Luck to everyone who are racing today, and have fun paddling!

SIPPY CHIC EARTH’S FINEST WATER.™

Thank you to all who have participated in The 4th Hong Kong International SUP Championship 2018! In a blink of an eye, we have successfully organised the third edition of our annual competition all thanks to everyone’s support and the team’s hard work and dedication. It has been humbling to see our competitions generate international attention throughout the years, with an increasing number of pro-athletes worldwide coming to our shores to compete. 2018 has been a fantastic year for HKSUPBA: our competition has officially entered The Most Competitive Races of the Year 2018 (The SUP Racer World Rankings system), we have also seen vast improvements amongst our very own Hong Kong athletes, and standup paddleboarding in general has significantly gained in popularity across Asia — this has really made the organisation’s commitment and hard work all worthwhile. This growing momentum has greatly encouraged us to continue giving our all in spreading our passion for the sport even more extensively. In 2019, we look to increase our efforts in grooming home-grown athletes, as well as expand our reach to the masses. Ultimately, we commit to participate and collaborate with the other Asia and international SUP competitions. We hope to seek your continuous support! Once again, I sincerely thank you all for being part of this special occasion; may SUP continue to bring you immense fun and joy like it has to us!

RACE VENUE

Victoria Recreation Club (Sai Kung) In 1849, on the shoreline of Hong Kong Harbour where the City Hall stands today, the original Victoria Recreation Clubhouse was established. Having been in operation in Canton since 1832 the VRC is distinguished as the oldest sporting and recreation club in the territory. The primary functions of the club were water sports, with rowing in the main. Early members also enjoyed social gatherings in a congenial colonial setting in the spacious and well-appointed clubhouse, highlighted by an annual Grand Ball.

Emerald Bay could well be considered the crown jewel of the Sai Kung Peninsula and the VRC Clubhouse is blessed to sit high atop at its peak on the waterfront. Enjoying stunning panoramic views across from Sharp Island in Port Shelter, it will make one easily forget that they are living in the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.
