NumerouspotentialsitesownedbyaHousingAssociationwereselected forassessmentofrepair,renovation,orredevelopment.Alayoutand massingexercisewasundertakentogaugethepotentialfora rowof1 familyhouses/2familysplitlevelapartmentswithprivate amenityspaces.

Anexistingderelictbarn,sittingexposedatopthePontardawehills,wasconvertedintoamixof privateresidentialforayoungfamily,linkinganoffice/workshopfortheirburgeoningartistic business.Theextentoftheproposalssatwithintheexistingstoneperimeterwalls,anynew projectionsthroughwerekepttoaminimum,incorporatingexistingopeningsasmuchaspossible. Alightweighttimberstructurewasusedbehind,whichgentlysatalongsideandabovetheexisting.

Redevelopmentproposalswereinvestigatedforasite sandwichedbetweenbusypedestriantrafficandan abandonedrailwayline.Theexpectedoccupantof eachpropertywasidentifiedasprimarilyelderly, whichfocussedthelayouttowardsacentralcommunal circulationspace,whilstalsomaintainingelementsof privacythroughtheutilisationofnaturaltoplightand intimatecourtyardspaces.
