Perkins+Will was selected by The Richards Group to design their new corporate headquarters in the West Village area of Dallas, Texas. The 250,000 square foot building, scheduled to open in 2015, is designed to offer an office plan with maximum flexibility and openness by using an offset elevator core instead of a more conventional center-core layout. Central to the building design is a three-story stairwell atrium that encourages physical activity and allows the company to continue its long-standing tradition of “Stairwell Meetings”, the gathering of some 700 employees for important announcements and introductions.

A modern counterpoint to the iconic Cityplace Tower, the headquarters at Central Expressway and Blackburn Street is poised to create a memorable gateway into Downtown Dallas and to reinforce the energy of the West Village. The office space in the facility will include new design concepts such as “communities'' of workstations to encourage collaboration among comingled teams. The new building will also include a fitness center, garden terrace, and 10,000 square feet of retail space.

05 HOK won an international competition to design this new 1.85-millionsq.-ft. landmark office building in downtown Seoul. The new Global Engineering Center provides a high-tech work environment that is flexible to change over time with Samsung’s business needs. Two office towers rise above a three-story podium structure that contains meeting and dining facilities, as well as the Samsung company museum.

HOK’s design creates a highly sustainable workplace. Fresh air ventilation is delivered through a pressurized cavity floor with chilled ceiling systems for cooling and radiant systems for heating. All building systems are controlled by an automated digital network system that measures and monitors outdoor weather conditions, indoor environmental conditions and market energy costs. The system makes continuous adjustments to maximize building efficiency while minimizing energy consumption. The design harvests daylight for the interior by using a tunable external light shelf system. This reduces solar heat gain in the summer and maximizes solar warming during winter months. All roof surfaces feature lush roof gardens available for employees and visitors.

These sustainable design strategies reduce the building’s energy consumption by an estimated 40 percent.

Perkins+Will won the design challenge for the expansion and renovation of the University Hospital which consists of a new Trauma In an effort to “right size” University Hospital and provide the appropriate mix of diagnostic and treatment services, the University Health System of San Antonio approved design and planning for the construction of a new trauma tower at University Hospital. Perkins+Will, in conjunction with Garza/Bomberger & Associates and RVK Architects, won the design competition for the design and planning for the $625 million (construction cost) medical center expansion that includes additional beds, an expanded emergency center, and surgical capacity. The overall project cost, including equipment, furniture, IT, and fees, totaled approximately $816 million. The tower includes 84 emergency center treatment positions, of which 10 are trauma rooms. Four hundred twenty new acuity-adaptable patient rooms and 35 operating rooms (2 shelled for future interoperative MR) are also included in the design.

The Perkins+Will design includes larger patient rooms and plenty of natural light. Design of the interior spaces and functional layout moves staff and patients in an efficient manner. The new hospital is twice as big as the old one, at about 2 million square feet inclusive of two existing towers that will be refurbished and incorporated into the design. The scope of work for the project includes project definition, program verification, physical master facility plan, design documentation and construction administration. The project was “hyper tracked” in multiple document packages and in overlapping phases, allowing the existing hospital to remain fully operational and accessible during all segments of work.

Vari purchased an existing three-story, 424,000-square-foot office building to develop a new office concept with lease opportunities for start-ups and like companies. This is the first of its kind and Corgan has since been hired to develop a second, VariSpace, in Southlake, Texas. The repositioned hospitalityfocused office building will offer a modern environment rich with amenities, including coffee bars on each floor, cafe and fitness spaces, and a 1-acre multi-use park. The highly flexible workspaces will be fully-furnished with Vari’s products which promote activity and movement; and aim to increase productivity and innovation.

RAYTHEON TECHNOLOGIES McKinney, TX

Raytheon’s conventional workspace environment was not addressing the changing needs of their business. The private offices and high partitioned workstations were barriers to collaboration and maximum space utilization. The corporate campus includes two three-story buildings which includes cleanroom space, one four-story building, and one single-story building at approximately. Along with cleanroom spaces, Raytheon's campus is also host to a data center.

The heart of the project is a new 110,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art, stream-lined manufacturing process for improved workflow efficiency and testing. This includes classified clean rooms, an ISO-7/Grade C clean room environments including precision clean, vibe, and firing labs with recessed isolated slabs. Controlled environments with HEPA filtered fan units and low wall returns. Project scope includes tight temperature and humidity control with a pressure test cascade from the cleanest areas out to the ambient, non-classified spaces.

They wanted a cost-effective building with timeless design features, Corgan delivered on every point utilizing tilt wall concrete exterior panels and large span bays with few interior columns to maximize the leasable floor plate.

HCA RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL Riverside, CA

Perkins+Will is the design architect for the Riverside Community Hospital’s multi-phase project. In response to this OSHPD mandate, Riverside Community Hospital planned construction of a new 349bed inpatient replacement building with hospital ancillary support, outpatient clinic and medical offices being placed in the renovated buildings. The Riverside Community Hospital will remain open during the five phases of the project which, at completion, will meet seismic upgrade requirements.

The new 9-story tower will be designed with additions of corridor connectors to preexisting buildings to help increase accessibility between various buildings. The basement level of the building will have a loading dock, central plant, materials management, main distribution frame room, and morgue. On the lower level, a new dietary kitchen, dining, vending, central plant, state-of-the-art clinical lab, pharmacy, housekeeping, materials management, and storage.

Additions to the hospital will include a new emergency department, radiology department, women’s services floor, ICU, and a 35-bed transitional care unit.

The first phase includes a new 5level, 1,092-stall parking structure designed to meet all the parking requirements generated by the proposed master plan, which includes a future medical office building.
