Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be officially in a leadership position to be a leader in your office or organization. You can be a leader who advocates for change, the person who decides to stand up for what’s right. However, when you get into this position, it’s absolutely essential that you understand the tenets of being a leader. This is where the BEs of leadership come into play.
BE of service The team that you’re in charge of, either officially or unofficially, is going to be in need of guidance, whether that’s spoken or physical guidance. The help that you give to the people you’re leading will help them gain the information they need to be able to be successful in their tasks. If they don’t need a helping hand, they may need some form of encouragement to help push them to be successful. Being of service means that you have a baseline of kindness and an aptitude for mentorship, being able to guide, direct, and remove obstacles. However, this doesn’t mean that you do the work for them; this means that you give them the tools necessary for them to succeed.
