Introducing THE DRUK PEMA KARPO SCHOOL The Druk Pema Karpo School is located in Ladakh and was established in partnership with the Drukpa Trust, a registered UK charity. Pema Karpo means ‘White Lotus’.

The innovative Dragon Garden project at the Druk Pema Karpo School will create garden spaces that can be used for learning, recreation and vegetable growing.

The school aims to preserve cultural traditions while providing a quality modern education for children in Ladakh, combining skills and learning needed for contemporary life along with teachings rooted in the spiritual values of the region.

Improved Access to Education The location of the Druk Pema Karpo School means that many children living in remote regions can now access an education that they might not have been able to otherwise.

The residential blocks in the school complex allows students from even the most remote regions to attend as they can board on campus.

Student Sponsorship In support of some of the poorest children in the Ladakh region, the

school provides funding for sponsorships to enable them to take up places in the school.

School Awards The Druk Pema Karpo School has won several awards since it first began a phased programme of opening in 2001. These include the 2013 International Architecture in Stone award and the 2012 environmental award from the British Council for School Environments. In the 2002 World Architecture Awards, the school won prizes for the Best Green Building in the world, Best Asian Building and Best Educational Building in the world.
