Professional Materials Review
The Ratcliffe Center for Creative Entrepreneurship (RCCE)
MICA is home to the Ratcliffe Center for Creative Entrepreneurship, a hub dedicated to helping the College’s students and alumni become successful business owners. Made possible with a $5 million gift from the Philip E. and Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation, the Center addresses the evolving needs of artists and designers in the new creative economy.
The RCCE offers curricular and co-curricular opportunities to explore entrepreneurship as a career path and build entrepreneurial skills to support your creative career.
UP/Start
The UP/Start Venture Competition, which awards over $100k in seed funding annually, focuses on incubating and building creative business ventures within the MICA community. Working with industry partners, UP/Start provides mentorship and capital to help you nurture your ideas into sustainable businesses.
Creative Entrepreneurship Minor
The Creative Entrepreneurship Minor provides a framework to deepen your creative, critical thinking, and business skills across majors and disciplines so that you can create change in the world as an artist, designer, business owner, and/or community organizer.
First Year Fellows
This year-long program for incoming first-year students is focused on integrating studio research with emergent technologies, project-based learning, professional practice, and financial literacy. First Year Fellows explore the entrepreneurial mindset and gain knowledge and skills to not only propel your college studies, but also prepare for a wide range of creative professional careers that support a purposeful and successful life.
E/Intern Fellowship
E/Intern provides you with the opportunity to MICA students the opportunity to participate in a valuable summer business internship experience. The fellowships of up to $3,000 will be awarded to eligible students who have demonstrated interest in creative entrepreneurship and have secured an internship offer from a potential employer.
Baltimore Creatives Acceleration Network
Working with partners in Baltimore and beyond, and catalyzed by MICA, the Baltimore Creatives Acceleration Network (B/ CAN) offers holistic business, marketing, legal, and financial training, as well as tools and resources, to creative entrepreneurs ranging from individual artists looking to sustain their practice to creative startup companies looking to revolutionize their industry.
A career advising appointment is a great way to start a conversation about what is important to you, identifying your strengths and interests and exploring your options and strategies.
Meet with a Peer Career Advisor
Peer Career Advisors (PCAs) are undergraduate and graduate students trained in professional development and resources available to students and creatives. They can review your professional materials, and provide general job or internship search advice. Day and evening times are available during the school year.

During an in-person or virtual session we can review and edit your professional materials including resumes, cover letters, portfolios, websites, demo reels, artist statements and application essays.
1:1 Appointments
As a MICA student and alumni, you can schedule 1:1 appointments with RCCE staff, whether you want to learn more about different RCCE programs, are interested in starting your own business, or need support while navigating your entrepreneurial journey.
