STATEMENT
In my work I am interested in giving life to abandoned or decaying spaces and objects. Someone left that space and something of him stayed there. Since I was a child, I liked hidden and mysterious spaces, observing old objects and photos, at my grandparents' house, and imagining where they came from or who they were.
I am interested in painting, as it looks aesthetically, so I create pictorial images. I see the work of painters like Degas, Remedios Varo, Rafael Cauduro as inspiration.
Photography allows me to form timeless images. I seek to confuse the viewer through the use of long exposures, desaturating the images, sometimes indirectly photographing shadows and reflections. If I can see it in my imagination, I can carry it out.
In my work it is common to find the trail of dancers in motion, an old door or window, a broken and moldy wall, integrating the subjects as part of the space where they are. I am passionate about building scenarios. I seek that these images invite to be examined through an emotional as well as visual contemplation and that from their beauty the observer finds another sense of the incredible world that surrounds us.

Rosi Calderon is a Visual Artist, born in Mexico City in 1965. She obtained a degree in Biological Pharmaceutical Chemistry from UNAM and the microscope showed her an infinite panorama of abstract beauty. Her sensitivity leads her to recognize the artistic interest that had been manifested since she was a child, and thus, she puts aside the research to enroll in the drawing workshop of the master Gilberto Aceves Navarro. From there it is prepared. Attend different photography workshops in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Vancouver, and Mexico City. Attend Gina Rimoch's painting workshop. The themes that attract his gaze are: dance and movement, Mexican folklore, the tapestries of the world and its people; hidden light, manifested in shadows and reflections.
Rosi has participated in international workshops and has exhibited both in Mexico and abroad; at Palm Beach Photographic Center, at Verve Gallery of Photography, at the Cuban Art Factory and Spectrum Miami. Among the special projects in which he has participated is the image, at the 42 Aviv Carlos Halpert Festival of Jewish Dance and Israel 2015, and his photographic participation in the books: El Bosque de Chapultepec, and Mexican Icons. She has been honored with honorable mentions five times by Black and White magazine. Second place in the performing arts category at The World Photography Gala Awards in London. Second place in Infocus's 15th Annual Exhibition, Palm Beach Photographic Center.
Finalist in the 8th edition of The Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for women photographers, and in the 8th edition of The Pollux Awards (England).
She has been invited to participate in the 4th Biennial of Documentary and Art Photography, Berlin 2016, and in the 6th Biennial of fine Art & Documentary Photography, Barcelona 2021.
In 2020, she presented “The Power of Hebrew Letters”, a pictorial photo book with 22 paintings made by her, each one representing a letter, with the explanation of each one. In her most recent works she combines photography and painting, creating her own style. “To begin with, we’d like to focus on a prominent characteristic of your photographs, the use of motion. Not only does the blur effect connect us to the concept of ‘loss’ and ‘emptiness’ but it also pulls us into the images, giving us the ability to see the image from the artist’s point of view. Not only does this ‘pull’ effect come from the use of movement in the imagery, but also occurs through the creation of depth which occurs through your juxtaposition of objects which would generally not hold commonalities.” Fotonostrum.

STATEMENT
En mi obra me interesa dar vida a los espacios y objetos abandonados o decadentes. Alguien dejó ese espacio y algo de él se quedó ahí.
Desde niña, me gustaban los espacios ocultos y misteriosos, observar objetos y fotos antiguas, en casa de mis abuelos, e imaginarme de dónde venían o quienes eran.
Me interesa pintar, así como se ve estéticamente, por lo que creo imágenes pictóricas. Veo la obra de pintores como Degas, Remedios Varo, Rafael Cauduro como inspiración. La fotografía me permite formar imágenes atemporales. Busco confundir al espectador mediante el uso de largas exposiciones, desaturando las imágenes, a veces fotografiando de manera indirecta sombras y reflejos. Si lo puedo ver en mi imaginación, puedo llevarlo a cabo.
En mi obra es común encontrar la estela de bailarines en movimiento, una puerta o una ventana vieja, una pared rota y enmohecida, integrando a los sujetos como parte del espacio donde se encuentran. Me apasiona construir escenarios para crear imágenes que permitan otras formas de percibir al mundo. Busco que estas imágenes inviten a ser examinadas a través de una contemplación emocional además de visual y que desde su belleza el observador encuentre otro sentido del increíble mundo que nos rodea.

Rosi Calderón es una Artista Visual, nació en la Ciudad de México en 1965. Obtuvo el título de Química Farmacéutica Bióloga por la UNAM y el microscopio le mostró un infinito panorama de la belleza abstracta. Su sensibilidad la lleva a reconocer el interés artístico que desde niña se había manifestado, y así, deja de lado la investigación para inscribirse en el taller de dibujo del maestro Gilberto Aceves Navarro. A partir de ello se prepara. Asiste a diferentes talleres de fotografía en Santa Fe, Nuevo México, Vancouver y la Ciudad de México. Asiste al taller de pintura de Gina Rimoch. Los temas que atraen su mirada son: la danza y el movimiento, el folclor mexicano, lo tapices del mundo y su gente; la luz oculta, manifiesta en sombras y reflejos. Rosi ha participado en talleres internacionales y ha expuesto tanto en México como en el extranjero; en Palm Beach Photographic Center, en Verve Gallery of Photography, en la Fábrica de Arte Cubano y Spectrum Miami. Entre los proyectos especiales en que ha participado se encuentra la imagen, en el 42 Festival Aviv Carlos Halpert de Danza Judía y de Israel 2015, y su participación fotográfica en los libros: El Bosque de Chapultepec, e Iconos Mexicanos.
Ha sido honrada con menciones honoríficas en cinco ocasiones por la revista Black and White. Segundo lugar en la categoría de artes escénicas en The World Photography Gala Awards de Londres. Segundo lugar en la 15a exhibición anual de Infocus, Palm Beach Photographic Centre.
Finalista en 8a edición de The Julia Margaret Cameron Awards para mujeres fotógrafas, y en la 8a edicion de The Pollux Awards (Inglaterra).
Ha sido invitada a participar en 4a Bienal de Fotografía documental y de arte, Berlín 2016.
En 2020 presentó “El Poder de las Letras Hebreas”, un fotolibro pictórico con 22 pinturas realizadas por ella, cada una representando una letra, con la explicación de cada una.
En sus trabajos más recientes combina la fotografía y la pintura, creando un estilo propio.
“Para empezar, nos gustaría centrarnos en una característica destacada de sus fotografías, el uso del movimiento. El efecto de desenfoque no solo nos conecta con el concepto de "pérdida" y "vacío", sino que también nos atrae hacia las imágenes, brindándonos la capacidad de ver la imagen desde el punto de vista del artista. Este efecto de "atracción" no solo proviene del uso del movimiento en las imágenes, sino que también se produce a través de la creación de profundidad que se produce a través de la yuxtaposición de objetos que, por lo general, no tendrían elementos comunes”.
