Remember that it is unlikely that any of these strategies will work in isolation so you will need to show how they interact among each other, and interact with your choices of construction.

Consider how you would use natural ventilation as a cooling (and to a lesser extent) heating strategy. Do not assume that all your openings will be suitable for cross ventilation. While wind roses give you general N wind directions, keep in mind that local context (typology, neighbouring buildings and natural features, microclimate) will have a bigger impact on the local wind conditions. General wind directions and speeds also vary across the day, and across the year.

You can also create outdoors areas and use vegetation or water features if that helps with your passive design. If you want to show your strategies thatINTERNAL DRAPES use elements around the site, you may need to have a separate diagram Placed bedroom windows as they assist in trapping heat and adjust the scale. If it is only schematic, standard scales can be ignored.

Daylight is also an important factor to consider. While fewer windows may result in lower heat gains/loss, you also need to nd a good LOUVRE SHADING (Brise-Soleil) balance to get decent amounts of daylight. They are located on the East and West side of the house

You can use the white space around the main components on your sheet to include diagrams, images or schematics that may help you communicate or explain your ideas. You can also use blocks of text, but remember that graphics are usually more engaging and more powerful at communication.

VEGETATION - TREES Trees provide a lot of shading as they intercept sunlight from higher angles. Trees can also cool down the winds that pass through it as they carry moisture and the area is quite shaded

THERMAL MASS - WATER Water is a good thermal mass used to reglate temperature of the surroundings. This is useful especially for the high diurnal temperature in Dandenong.

Do not draw cross ventilation arrows that move across several rooms and across closed doors! That does not work! Internal drapes are NOT a replacement for external shadings. Now is the time to test your construction, material and passive design strategies on First Rate If you are using vegetation and external features as part of your passive thermal strategies, make sure this is shown on your site plan.

Do not use anything other than LEDs, unless you can provide a very strong argument for it. LEDs are very affordable now, and there is no reason not to use them. If you are using ceiling fans, be careful with the placement of your downlights. (think epileptic seizure!) Likewise, think about the shadows that your lights will cast (eg your body casting a shadow on the kitchen bench while you are chopping your carrots if the lights are behind you.) Heating Hydronic is a closed loop system where water temperature can go up to 65 degree celsius for panel and 40 degree celsius for slab. This type of heating needs a storage tank.
