Engineering Through Miami University’s Center for Assistive Technology, Dr. Chagdes works with student researchers to understand the complex body systems that allow a person to balance upright. The goal? Develop methods to prevent falls in people who often struggle with balance, such as the elderly and athletes who have suffered concussions.

ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS (EWB) In addition to getting involved with local projects, Miami’s chapter of EWB is improving the quality of life for people in Uganda and Rwanda by helping them get clean water flowing in their communities. After an injury forced her to stop playing soccer, Grace developed a fascination with the body’s ability to heal.
