aside to fix the problem once the source is found. Right now, this leak causes water to fall in the hallway near the foreign language rooms. “(The waterfall leak) is a mysterious leak that only occurs at specific environmental times,” a representative from Performance Services, the company commissioned to complete the project said at the last School Board Meeting. “We have actually had our representative on the roof to do some flood testing, and he could not make the leak reoccur. So, we are not exactly sure what is causing it yet, but we have that on the list to continue to do research on so we can uncover that.”

tudents nonchalantly converse with each other during passing periods, all while their school is leaking. Rainwater fills strategically placed garbage cans in classrooms and hallways. The roof needs fixing, and luckily, construction is set to begin this spring. Made possible by referendum money, the roof on top of the Fieldhouse is going to be replaced. Before construction can occur, the platform supporting the dome must be updated to accommodate the changes. “When school is still in session in the spring, they will be working on the platform leading up to the dome on the roof,” Mr. Mike Wells, Principal, said. “Once school is out, they will be changing around the all of the infrastructure within the locker rooms and replacing the roof of the Fieldhouse.” Even though construction may interfere with their practices, athletes like Olivia Foley, senior, believes the fix is essential and will be a great help in the long run. “It (a new roof) would be really helpful because I know frequently there are puddles in the middle of the track and I have stepped in them many times and have al- graphics by Robert Young photos by Megan Szymanski most fallen,” Olivia said. “It (prac- (clockwise) HIT THE SHOWERS There are plans to ticing) is hard because the track create a more private shower space. “In 1985, the is already crowded and so then showers were fine, but in 2018, kids have changed with trash cans on the track to a bit and want more privacy. Locker room rehab In addition to fixing the roof, changes will be made to all of the existing locker rooms in the Fieldhouse. “It is not a big monetary amount we are putting into it, the bigger thing is the roof,” Mr. Richard Sluder, social studies teacher and Track coach, said. “(The objective) is just coming in and being more efficient with our space and modernizing just a little bit.” Small changes that are going to be made include consolidating space by modernizing shower spaces to carve out two small locker rooms for visiting teams, adding storage space and fixing lighting. Emilee Eggebrecht, junior and volleyball player, believes that these minor changes to the locker rooms will be very beneficial to student athletes. “I feel like the athletes will be way more comfortable using the locker rooms because they used to be really dark and dirty and the locks on the bathrooms didn’t work,” Emilee said. “I love that they are finally renovating them because it will make such a difference in the athlete’s ability to get ready and prepare for their games.”
