This X-ray is very helpful in determining the cavity whether or not normal. A fluid is injected into the uterus for the X-ray as it contains a chromatic dye which helps easy detection. Hysterosalpingography test procedure results determine the shape of the uterine cavity and the shape and patency of the fallopian tubes. Why HSG is done? Hysterosalpingogram X-Ray detects whether the fallopian tubes are open and the uterus is in normal shape or not. It also determines if the cavity is affected by fibroids, polyps or scar tissue. Hysterosalpingography is very useful in diagnosing any female reproductive system related disorders. With the help of this test the doctors can even diagnose the causes of infertility and other pregnancy related issues. After a few months of tubal sterilization, HSG is done. To check whether the fallopian tubes are blocked or not, tubectomy is done. It also helps in highlighting the symptoms of the reproductive tract disorders, common infertility, uterine malformations, tubal occlusion, Asherman’s syndrome and pelvic inflammatory disease. To understand it in simpler terms, HSG test is performed to determine the health of the female reproductive system. HSG is a radio test and hence is performed by the radiological department of the hospital. How is HSG done? HSG test should be preferably done in the first half of the menstrual cycle i.e 1 to 14 days from the cycle as these are the days that have less chances of getting pregnant. A HSG test is performed through a device called a speculum which carries a fluid called contrast agent containing a dye that outlines the inner structure of the body and helps to bring out the clear images on the X-ray screen. There are two ways of inserting the dye into the crvix. One method is using an instrument called cannula and it is inserted into the cervix. Other method is to use a thin plastic tube and passed into the cervical opening. The tube opening has a balloon inflated which keeps the plastic tube in place in the uterus. Once the fluid is inserted into the cervix, an X-ray is taken through different positions so as to get every angle for better understanding. Once the images are taken, the speculum and cannula is removed. The HSG cost in Bangalore is quite reasonable. It usually ranges between 700/- to 1500/-.
