Whilst we continue to transition to our new model for working, it is important that you are fully aware of any changes in our operations, get introductions to our new team members and you’re aware of any new services. DEPARTMENT FEATURE The Housekeeping Department is managed by Kimberly Greenidge Manager – General Administration (Support Services) and assisted by a supervisory team. The rest of the team consists of 103 Domestic Assistants, 16 Sanitation Officers and 65 Orderlies. The role and responsibilities of the housekeeping department at MHMC is:

1. to create a peaceful, infection free and pleasant atmosphere, required for the speedy recovery of our patients. Infection control and sanitation is central and critical to our role.

2. to ensure and practice proper handling of waste and waste disposal. 3. to provide Linen Management services including proper handling of soiled linen, processing d through the laundering process and redistribution of linen through to the various units. The main objective of Housekeeping is to reduce the number of microorganisms that may come in contact with patients, visitors, staff and the community; and provide a clean and pleasant atmosphere for patients and staff. • Cleaning include floors, walls, doors, bathrooms, inpatient, public and service areas. • Orderlies assist in the care, movement and transportation of patients and supplies at MHMC. This year the department will observe International Housekeeping & Environmental Services Week from September 12 -18, 2021. Despite our limitations inclusive of the COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to use this time to appreciate the service of the Housekeeping Team. #WeAreEssential We feature Mr. Theodore Luke Belrose bka ‘Belrose’. He joined the Victoria Hospital team 15 years ago as an Orderly. He worked at the X-Ray Unit for 13 years, then the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) for a year and is now the Patient Service Support Orderly assigned in the front lobby – OKEUH. Mr. Belrose has proven to be a very dedicated and dependable employee who contributes to ensure that the duty and image of the department is always well maintained. Mr. Belrose is pleasant, respectful and has a quiet demeanor. He is as serious as he demonstrates his work ethics. We at the Housekeeping Department say a big THANK YOU!

SERVICE INTERRUPTION & CHANGES Operational Changes - Outpatient Clinic and Elective Surgeries Effective Wednesday September 1st, 2021: •

Elective surgeries will be suspended for the period September 1st to September 19th, 2021. Patients with surgery dates within that period will be contacted by MHMC Patient Services team to reschedule.

All Outpatient Clinics scheduled for the same period will also be suspended. Services team will also contact patients with appointments to reschedule.

The Patient

The decision to suspend these services was taken as part of our focus on the National effort to meet the needs of our patients with COVID-19 and to limit spread of the disease. The team recognizes the inconvenience which this will cause some of our patients and we will make every effort to resume these services as soon as is safely possible. In the interim special arrangements have been made to accommodate emergency and urgent surgeries and clinic visits. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

New rules for visiting patients at Millennium Heights Medical Complex Effective Thursday September 2nd, 2021, Management have established new rules in relation to the visitation of patients in response to the changes in curfew times, in an effort to manage traffic and limit the risk of COVID-19 transmission and spread.

For full details regarding these measures, please refer to the release dated September 2nd, 2021 which can be accessed via our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), the lobby screens and your respective departments.

New Procedures for Labour/Maternity Rooms at OKEUH Effective August 30th, 2021, the follow measures must be adhered to ensure the safety of all accessing the rooms: • Only one support person is allowed per patient. • A rapid COVID-19 test will be done prior to the support person being allowed into the delivery room. •

Support personnel MUST declare any symptoms on the OKEUH Labour & Delivery Unit Support Personnel sign in sheet.

Support personnel are only permitted to stay during the active phase of labour. i.e. when the labouring patient has been transferred to the delivery suite.

• Support personnel are not permitted to leave the delivery suite, and as such, should ensure that they come prepared with any materials necessary to remain on the unit. e.g. warm clothing. • Support personnel are not allowed to alternate with other family members. •

Support personnel must adhere to social distancing and hygiene protocols, i.e. handwashing, sanitising, correct usage of face masks and social distancing

MHMC MONTHLY NEWS Establishment of the Ambassadors for Culture & Engagement (ACE) Programme MHMC is committed to fostering a harmonious work environment built on diversity, equity and inclusion. We also believe that culture formation is best achieved in collaboration with the employees contributions. As of August 2021, we have introduced and established the Ambassadors for Culture & Engagement (ACE) Programme that involves employees across the complex to join the efforts in creating a workplace environment that is inclusive, psychologically safe, productive and where overall success is nurtured. We believe that this team will make organizational development history in the healthcare industry in Saint Lucia.

We applaud them for accepting the call to serve and invite us all to support them as they roll out their programming. Stay tuned to learn more about the programme and your representatives!

CLINICAL UPDATES New Employee Health Clinic to be introduced

Employees of MHMC will now enjoy the services of a dedicated physician! Dr. Rachel Thwaites joins the MHMC family and will provide a Monday to Friday Employee Health Clinic which can be accessed by ALL staff of MHMC. Details of the Health Clinic location and hours will be shared in the coming two weeks, as she has been assisting with the internal management and care of our employees who have been exposed to COVID-19 to ensure that we provide a comprehensive service of testing and follow up.

MHMC staff continued efforts to support the National COVID-19 response We are extremely grateful for the support our staff members both nurses and doctors are giving by being deployed to the Respiratory Hospital to assist with care of COVID-19 patients. We have to date deployed four Junior Physicians, four Nurses, and Consultants from Anesthesia/Intensive Care and Internal Medicine. Thank you Team MHMC for responding and daily being on the front line for the people of Saint Lucia.

MHMC Clinical Internship Program Congratulations are in order for two of our interns who have successfully completed their internship and have now joined the MHMC Family as House Officers. We welcome Dr. Leroyson Alexander attached to Accident & Emergency and Dr. Natasha John attached to Anesthesia/ICU at OKEUH. We also welcome eight new interns as we continue to support the development of our young physicians.

HOT POLICY OF THE MONTH

This policy provides compensatory time earned for working non-scheduled days (holidays, weekends) as approved by the HOD. This policy is ONLY applicable to employees who do not qualify for overtime payments (exempt employees). However, days in lieu must be utilized within one month of being earned except in extenuating circumstances and by the approval of Senior Management. You can contact the Human Resources Department for more details.
