BOCCE BALL CLUB NEWS by Jim M

A new season of bocce ball has started in our park. Six teams of 4 players each are vying for a championship trophy and their name on the hall of bocce ball fame. After just 4 games played, it looks like it’s a 3team race to the finish.

The ”Terrible Two’s” are off to a perfect 4-0 record. A team called the “Underhanded” and the “Bocce Queens”, are a close 2nd , with a 3-1 record. A team called the “Lobsters” are getting boiled in the pot with a 1-3 record, followed by “Team Linda”. The ”Wonder Dogs” are not doing to wonderfully, with a 0-4 record. But the season is young and anything can happen.

We play every Thursday morning starting at 9:30am on the bocce ball fields. Come watch us play and learn how to play this fun easy sport. We are always looking for new players.

For any questions, please call our General Manager, Linda C. @ 805-905-0211.

THE 5 MINUTE STORY CLUB

(sung to the song “Monday, Monday”, by the Mamas and the Papas)

Monday stories, so good for you ‘n me Monday stories, it wasall I would hope they would be Oh, Monday stories, Monday stories can always guarantee.

That Monday stories, would still be good to hear with you ‘nme.

Bah-da, bah-da, da….3more times.

Thank you all for the great turnout at our last meeting.

The meeting was held on September 1st and what a better way to start the meeting off by playing the upbeat music from Earth, Wind, and Fire; “September”.

Peter C. took the stage first and continued his series of his personal stories of the 60’s rock ‘n roll days. He recalled a band he shared the stage with, called the 13th Floor Elevators, which were a psychedelic band. They were the warmup band for Janis Joplin, and ZZ Tops.

John H. gave us goose bumps, recalling “the Monster of his Youth”. The monster was reported living in the bayous of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. It was a humanoid creature, that was called the “Moth Man”. It was said he was all black, stood 7-8 feet tall, had 2 giant wings, and glowing red eyes. He terrorized the area for years. In 1967 he was blamed for snapping the steel cable of the Silver Bridge sending 46 people on the bridge to their deaths.

Mike J. introduced us to a new member of the Jones’ household. She surprisingly arrived at their doorstep one fine morning. They found a very large box and then hesitantly opened the box. To their surprise, inside the box was a lovely 3-foot rag doll, named Abigale. Made and sent by our former Morro Shores neighbor, Judy Maise (92 years old), now living up in Oregon with her son and family.

Deborah B. told us a story called, “Souvenirs” that her grandfather brought back after fighting in France during WW1. One souvenir was of a shell casing from a 75mm canon (that he fired), and the family made into a heavy lamp. Another souvenir was found after his death. His daughter was cleaning out his attic when she came upon an old chest containing his old military uniform and other things from his service. She couldn’t see all that well because of the lack of light in the attic. She dragged the heavy chest down two sets of stairs and into the yard. It’s then that she discovered that at the bottom of the chest there were several live WW1 Hand grenades.

Linda C. took us on an “Adventure to Santa Rosa Island”. She and her family took a 3-hour boat ride out to the island. Then by backpack and carts they took all the supplies they needed to their campsite. It was about a 1 ¼ mile hike to get to the campsite. They spent 4 nights at the primate campsite. Other than the supply of water at camp, there were no amenities. But lots of wildlife, especially the island’s cute little red foxes. Linda, I commend you for taking such an arduous adventure.

Jim M. caffeinated us about the rules and etiquettes of drinking coffee, or “caffe” in the coffee bars of Italy. Caffe to an Italian is a masterpiece, a tradition, and a cultural ritual.

It's all about quality not quantity. Jim warned us never to order a cappuccino or any milk drink after 11:00am, unless you want to hear the scorn of an Italian barista.

Our next meeting is on the first Monday of the month, this time it’s October 6th, at 1:30pm in Switzer’s Hall. We welcome new speakers or listeners. It’s fun learning about your neighbors while enjoying homemade cookies. Thank you to Linda and Donna for the delicious ones you brought. YUM!!!

See you then, bah-da, bah-da-da, da. Monday stories.

How to solve sudoku puzzles

No math is required to solve a sudoku. You only need logic and patience.

Simply make sure that each 3x3 square region has only one instance of the numbers 1-9. Similarly, each number can only

appear once in a column or row in the larger grid. The difficulty on this puzzle is easy.

The Lighter Side

Leather

When a woman wears leather clothing, a man's heart beats faster. His throat gets dry. He gets weak in the knees and begins to think irrationally.

Ever wonder why?

She smells like a new truck!

Old man

He was eating lunch at a truck stop when three bikers walked in. The first pushed his cigarette into the old man's pie, then took a seat at the counter.

The second spit in the old man's milk, then took a seat at the counter. The third turned his plate over and then took a seat at the counter.

The old man left without a word. One of the bikers said to the waitress, "Humph, not much of a man is he?"

The waitress replied: "Not much of a truck driver either. He just backed his truck over three motorcycles."

What to do

An elderly couple just bought cellphones and learned how to text. She was the romantic type and one afternoon sent him this message.

"If you are sleeping, send me your dreams.

If you are laughing, send me your smile.

If you are eating, send me a bite.

If you are drinking, send me a sip.

If you are crying, send me your tears. I love you."

The husband texted back to her: "I'm in the bathroom. Please advise."
