“O storyteller, O storyteller
Wherefore art thou storyteller?
Do not deny thy neighbor And refuse thy story, Or if thou wilt not But be sworn to listen..
For what’s in a story
That which we call a memory By any other name would still sound as sweet

Highlights from our last meeting in June. Several of us Storytellers paid home to our fathers, for the upcoming celebration of “Father’s Day” .
Mike J., asked “How well did you know your father?” For Mike, it was towards the end of his father’s life. They took a couple of long road trips together and Mike learned of his father’s wild times as a youth.
Linda C., recounted tales of her father. About how he survived the biggest explosion, at the time, second only to the atomic bomb today. It happened in 1917, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, when 2 cargo ships collided in the bay. One ship containing highly explosive substances. Her dad was only 6 months old at the time. The massive explosion killed about 2,000 people and left many deaf and/or blind.
Kerry M., recounted a story of her dad. Her dad worked for the telephone company in the 60’s and apparently one day he had to work late. He tried to call his home several times in the afternoon but the line was always busy. Kerry was on the phone with a
school friend talking nonstop for hours. Around 9 pm Kerry’s dad walked into the house grabbed a pair of scissors and cut the telephone cord wire in half. He then turned around and never said a word to Kerry. But in his silence, Kerry got the message.
Jim M. happened upon a bottle of Tommy Lasorda’s Family Wine, while shopping in T.J.’s. Jim recounted a “full circle” story that took place over a hundred years ago. How his grandfather and Lasorda’s father and uncles made wine together during the prohibition era. Jim’s grandfather would buy a whole train car filled with Zinfandel grapes grown in Lodi, Ca.. Every year he had the boxcar of grapes shipped to his produce stand in Pottstown, Pa. to make wine from the grapes and then gave the wine he made away as a business tactic.
Peter C. continued his series on “Rock ‘n Rollers” he has met as a former band member in the 60’s. This month it was about the British rock supergroup “Cream” . He remembers seeing Eric Clapton play on guitar, Jack Bruce on bass, and Ginger Baker on drums, while behind stage at the Filmore Theater in San Francisco. Peter recounts hearing Bruce sing the same lyric “I’m so glad” over 80 times. Peter said to himself, “they’re never going to make it, not with that simple sing song” .
John H. told us about the “Land of Toto” . No not Oz, but Japan. He had just returned from a fabulous 14-day, escorted trip there. Hosted and all arranged by the Smithsonian Institute Travel, to which they took care of every small detail along the way. He was also admired by the efficiency and options of the toilets made by the Toto Toilet Company found throughout Japan.
Come join our happy, merry gang of Storytellers. Our next meeting is Monday, July 7th, at 1:00pm in Switzer’s Hall. Come enjoy the yummies and meet your wonderful neighbors. Thanks to Linda C. for bringing your wonderful homemade cookies.

Well, with the season almost a rap, the team called the “Court Jesters”, didn’t joke around on the courts this season. They handsomely took the title of champions. These four epigrammatists should change their teams name to the “Court Royalist” . As of June 12th, they have earned an impressive 12-1 record. Led by King Xavier R., and his royal court of Queen Linda C., Princess Kerry M., and Prince Paul S.. But on the opposing spectrum of the six teams, a team named the “insomniacs” have conked out with a 1-12 record
All players will be looking forward to our award and ceremonial luncheon and the picking of new teams to be held shortly after this season!
We invite residents to come join us in our merriment held every Thursday morning at 9:30am. Sign up as a full or part-time player. It’s an easy game to learn and play. A great way to have fun and laughs with your neighbors. For more information, please contact Queen Linda C.. (805) 905-0211

Misty Wycoff,@#95, twice nominated poet laureate for the county of San Luis Obispo, has just had her 8th book of poetry published. DWELLING is now available in local bookstores.
This time instead of one larger book launch, there will be multiple smaller readings in the various communities in the area. A reading at Volumes of Pleasure bookstore in Los Osos will occur on Saturday, July 26th at 1pm, and on Sunday August 17th another reading will take place in the garden area behind Top Dog Coffee shop, next to Coalesce Bookstore on Main Street in Morro Bay. Times for the Morro Bay reading will be posted in the mail room closer to the event or you can contact Misty @bmisty7000@gmail.com. All are welcome to come.
Morro Shores residents will help save Cuesta Inlet at a fundraising event at Switzer Hall on Tuesday, July 1 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. This fundraiser will support the purchase of Cuesta Inlet, an undeveloped part of the shoreline only a mile from our doors. Save Cuesta Inlet, a 501c3 nonprofit, needs to raise $735,000 to keep it open for public use by kayakers, dog walkers, bird watchers, and everyone who enjoys our bay. Let’s make Morro Shores residents proud to be able to say, “We helped purchase Cuesta Inlet.”
Come listen to some music, enjoy some appetizers, learn more about Cuesta Inlet and donate. See you on July 1.

A tour guide was showing a tourist around Washington, D. C. The guide pointed out the place where George Washington supposedly threw a dollar across the Potomac River. "That's impossible," said the tourist. "No one could throw a coin that far!"
"You have to remember," answered the guide. "A dollar went a lot farther in those days."

A man goes into a bar and seats himself on a stool. The bartender looks at him and says, "What'll it be buddy?"
The man says, "Set me up with seven whiskey shots and make them doubles." The bartender does this and watches the man slug one down, then the next, then the next, and so on until all seven are gone almost as quickly as they were served. Staring in disbelief, the bartender asks why he's doing all this drinking.
"You'd drink them this fast too if you had what I have."
The bartender hastily asks, "What do you have, pal?"
The man quickly replies, "I have a dollar."
